The Invasion of Tarsis

Dark Apostle Thirst

Recommended Posts

Yea, Tarsis Ultra is a planet in the Tarsis Ultra system, Ultima Segmentum. It's on the eastern fringe and was invaded by Hive Fleet Leviathan, but the Ultramarines successfully fended them off. A few years after that, Honsou destroyed it from orbit out of spite.

Your planet is Tarsis, which is on the eastern fringe and is to be attacked by Tyranids. You can understand my confusion then ;)

I understand completely... again, I'll have to edit it out when the story is done ;)

I like what I've been reading, but.....

Vaskar would only arrive when Ahre let him anyways. A number of sorcerors had been recruited from the Eye of Terror's markets, and using their gifts they had travelled rather quickly to their new master - they had been selected by their ability to do so. The sorcerors had been tasked with slowing but not destroying the fleet returning from the 13th Black Crusade. The lord of the Marauders knew better than to anger Khorne by killing Vaskar, and without His favor Tarsis would not hold.

A Warrior of Khorne using Psykers? I thought Khorne hated them, and a sure way of being reduced to Chaos Spawn for doing so.

Besides that, I like ^_^

Nah, as much of a Khorne Warrior Ahre is, he is also very Black Legionary in the way he runs his business, which I tried to show with the sorcerors and Nurgle followers, and with how quickly he was ready to relinquish Khorne in this last update.

Anyways, this next update should look familiar... but not quite the same... ;)

------------

Lord Vaskar stormed into the control center of the orbital station. Numerous astartes were there, attending their master, who bore more damage on his armour than any of them despite the many scratches and wounds found on his underlings.

The marines looked up at the movement, and when they saw its source they instantly became silent.

"Whose failure is this?" snarled Lord Vaskar, though it was doubtless he knew as well as they did.

"The blame is mine," the throned astarte declared hoarsely, "and as Lord Ahre, I accept whatever punishment the Chaos Gods deem fit willingly."

The lord of Khorne began to stalk towards Ahre, his blessed armour weeping blood, fueled by it's master's anger. For Ahre, it seemed so very long until Vaskar reached him. There was nothing but anger in his master's eyes.

"You dare," growled Lord Vaskar, "to think that you will be merely punished?"

Fear, pathetic and human, blossomed quickly in Ahre's gut before it was quickly crushed. The lord must have seen it in his eyes, because he began to snarl in disgust.

"Yes, I do dare," the Marauder lord angrily retorted, "I came only so that I-"

A head-butt from Lord Vaskar silenced the true servant. Hoisting the Chaos warrior in the air by his neck, the Khorne lord roared his pure displeasure. As one, every being in the room dropped to their knees, lest they too earn Vaskar's attention.

Ahre was thrown into a specially modified drop pod. The many astartes remained on their knees, until finally, the master spoke.

"Rise," he commanded, his voice almost calm, "unless you wish to join the wretch."

Hastily, they all rose to their feet. Vaskar pointed to one that was undamaged.

"You are in command of this station and the fortress now. Abbaddon wants this fortress to hold. Fail me, and I'll hand your remains over to the Warmaster myself."

The indicated marine nodded, but by then the Blood God's butcher had already turned to his drop-pod. Sensing its master's intent, a hatch opened again and Vaskar stepped in. Ahre did not come out before the hatch was closed, and the pod was launched.

----------

They were away, Ahre could tell that much, despite the fact the g-forces seemed not to be affecting the vessel. The daemonic pod had always been eager to leave for battle.

"You are worthless and incompetent," growled Lord Vaskar, "and your defiance of your fate will soon end."

"I will earn the God's favor back" Ahre promised, his voice containing a hint of threat. He was simply waved away as Vaskar studied the information running down the screen that had been installed in the drop pod.

After a moment, the Khorne lord stepped into the middle of the pod. Curious, Ahre walked in front of him - only to be kicked square in the chest through a suddenly open hatch.

Vaskar grinned as the atmosphere pulled at him before the hatch resealed itself. Then, he began to speak, and his words reflected in the Warp, in the realm of Khorne.

"Praise to the Blood God" he began, and opened his vox to Ahre's channel. Let's see how long his self-delusion lasts, Lord Vaskar thought with dark humour.

"No! This will not be my fate!" Even the wind interference could not hide the outrage in the condemned's voice.

In response, the executioner appeared to feel no emotion at all. "Praise to the champion of skulls, and glory through His children" Only the Warp could hear the echo of his laughter.

"I have served well, and I will continue to do so!"

"Blood be shed, and bones be split. May nothing be hidden"

"Not even this death will keep me from earning Khorne's favor back!"

"Come find this foolish flesh, and silence desperation's call"

"I can still slay many, my lord!"

"Come for glory here, come for the slaughter. Come for the violence untold, this I freely barter"

"I am the blessed of Khorne! I have proven my worth countless times!"

"Come to honour Him, come to show His wrath"

"The Hive Mind itself will follow Khorne before I allow this!" Did he detect desperation?

"Come and take skulls for His throne. Come and spill..." and here Vaskar paused, grinning.

Ahre, too, had fallen silent. Now he showed proper respect, if only because he didn't dare provoke his master's wrath again.

Still so deluded.

"BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!"

Ahre exploded in a crack of gore, and a Bloodthirster came to serve Lord Vaskar.

An instant later, the drop pod smashed into the ground. The doors opened a second later, and the Khorne Lord rushed out, his rage at the enemy before him boundless.

"You dare come and attack my fortress?" His words were roars as he ran towards the oncoming horde.

"You dare keep me from conquering the Imperium alongside Lord Abbaddon?" Blood began to pour from his armour as he thought of the glory he might have had.

"You dare to even even think you will succeed?" The filthy xenos were only a short distance away now, and fire began to rain from the fortress.

"You will not!" And with that, Lord Vaskar smashed into the enemy.

Ok, while the rules for Khorne's Guards might be still in progress, I have decided upon their nature, so this continues :D

Thanks, too, for the feedback, it's appreciated :whistling:

---------

Vaskar hit the horde of tyranids like a drop of acid on one of the great beasts.

All sense of order evaporated as the tide simply passed over him. Only those who were directly in front of him paused to even attack the roaring warrior, and were quickly killed.

Gunfire began to erupt around him as the defenders of the Gate opened up on the vanguard creatures. The Khorne Lord cared not; he knew he would be out of the Marauder's range soon. Apparently they had forgotten their name under Ahre's leadership, and so he had given them a new one.

That would have to be changed, thought Vaskar as he swept his blades about him. The effects were unnoticed as the beasts continued past him, as though he didn't truly matter. The attacks became more and more frenzied as he tried to create a sizable distraction, but still the swarm ignored him as he foraged deeper into its mass. A roaring tank-creature almost trampled over him, and he barely rolled out of the way, slashing at the impotent legs of the monster. He rose, snarling at the offence.

Enough of this.

One of the larger creatures seemed to be directing a small chunk of the tide. Vaskar made his way towards it, cursing in annoyance as a group of burrowing things traveled just beneath him, nearly knocking him off his power-armoured feet. It was but a moment later he was before the four-armed leader, and lacking better means of attacking, he grabbed one of the plates on its back and pulled himself up.

Instantly, the beast turned its head and screamed at him. The Khorne Lord simply put his arm in its mouth and let the attached chainblades rip to the monsters brain.

The corpse collapsed under him, and he rode it down. Before he had a chance to get his bearings, he was leapt on by a smaller tyranid, then another, and then they were all over him.

Their slaughter did nothing to dissapitate his anger. It was with pleasure, however, that he noted the enemy's sudden recognition of the slayer in their heart. He roared his challenge - and a much deeper roar came back.

Rushing at him was a tank-creature, just like the one that almost killed him. Again, he dodged to the side as it passed him, but it immediately turned around and lunged at him. The Khorne Lord barely evaded its claws and scything arms as he furiously backed away. One of its talons impaled deeply into the ground on which Vaskar had just been standing and caught on something. Seeing his chance, he jinked to its side to avoid the snarling beast. Summoning his anger, he pummeled the joint of the entrapped limb again and again, snapping the tendons and breaking the bones within.

The arm went slack as a fist punched a hole through it. The talon's edge snapped as the creature strained against it, nearly tearing out the disabled limb in the process. With a another roar, the tank-beast turned again towards the Khorne Lord - only to find its legs giving out beneath it.

Vaskar stalked back towards the head of the crippled monster. Even in its twisted kneeling, he had to look up to meet its glowering eyes. With a grin, the marine activated his chainblades and cut through its thick neck.

More creatures began to attack Lord Vaskar, and he welcomed the slaughter.

Sorry guys, this is on hold for the moment. However...

I want to hear what you guys think and/or want of Vaskar. Are the fight scenes bad? Should he go take it to the Tau? Does he need some development? Want some Black Templar action? Is there any confusion on who's doing what? Would it be good for a banner pole to be used as a beat-stick on it's former bearer?

Any comments and criticism is welcome :P

Just checked this forum to see if there was any more posts on this thread and saw you last comment. It's very good, I like it the way it is although maybe switch to a new enemy? BTs would be interesting, their righeous fury against our unholy might. Personally I'd rather see him against BTs than Tau. Fight scenes seem great to me.

Several months later

Lord Vaskar watched impassively as the raging drop pod was chained and pulled from the grounded bio-ship. The amount of blood the once spaceborne creature had leaked was pleasing. Already the surviving tyranids inside the vessel were being tracked down and slaughtered, and the unhatched were being taken for experiments by the techmarines.

Only one other tyranid void-vessel remained in orbit, though another was only weeks from arriving in-system. Their carcasses would lay alongside these ones, however, Vaskar knew he would see to that, even with only three hundred astartes remaining. They had only taken a company's worth in casualties from the death of the first two spacebornes.

A rotting wall of tyranid corpses was all that remained of the filthy xenos ground forces, spent in vain trying to collapse the wall protecting the hives. A crude defense, but it had worked well as even the citizenry took up their arms - normally used in the killing of each other, as true followers of Chaos - against the invaders. The only things that had made it past the defenses had slipped past them, all the rest were crushed by the counter attacks provided by Lord Vaskar's forces that had returned from the Black Crusade. This simple tactic had been repeated until the only enemy left alive was waiting in the heavens, sucking what little biomass it could from the planet's sparce vegetation.

The victorious Lord was pleased. The war here had required many sacrifices from both sides, and while it would take time to rebuild the warband would continue to draw blood until it had strength to conquer. Khorne had been, and would continue to be, properly worshipped by the warfare provided by the tyranids.

There was only one matter left to attend to.

Vaskar turned his vox to his Warp-talker. "Contact Lord Abbaddon. Tell him Tarsis has held and we will continue to wage war against the xenos. Once this race's presence within my reign's boundaries, I will turn to the T'au next. My blades are ever ready to shed blood where the Warmaster leads, however."

He paused for a moment, considering his next words.

"Tell him also that I seek what is right and holy by Khorne, and Khorne wants the Emperor's blood to flow. These xenos are but distractions - and I will not be distracted from when the greatest bloodletting. He is not the only favoured of the gods, and the others who are holy will be necessary if he wants to achieve his goals.'

'I am Lord Vaskar. I have not feared death like the followers of Nurgle, nor do I seek to further myself like the scions of Tzeentch and Slaanesh. I want only to spill worthy blood, and Khorne is the one who has set that the most worthy blood is that of the Emperor. Do not detain me from that again."

Satisfied, Vaskar turned off his vox. There were wars to prepare for.

Ah so you decided on the Tau? Or are you going to do both...sneaky sneaky. Will you write on him finishing the last Tyranid ship or leave that to one of his subordinates? I like how he shows Abby respect but at the same time isn't groveling at his feet.

If I expand on Vaskar, it'll be on his past, I'm edging the line of M40 right now :) And this particular short story is done, finished, laid to rest and buried*. I'm going to start on DAT, because I said I would go back forth between the two, and DAT needs his buddies introduced before I can start developing them

*Excepting renaming Tarsis
