Clever Girl... - Wink Wink, Nudge Nudge

I really like the drawing, the claws I think you've got down to a T, it looks better than the minature which kinda looks like its prancing round a bit.....

But can Shrike really be stealthy? He has a jet engine on his back!

For 40k, that is stealthy ^_^

Greyall, you've done it again mate!

One thing that could have been cool to see is the boot armor on Shrike to look like ninja tabi's , but then again that could look similar to Tau feet.

Shoot, I could've/should've/kind of wish I had thought about it.

Thanks, everyone. Though this guy was cool to draw, the goddamned pose was a wall of pain...designing these guys as miniatures forces me to show key parts of them in more detail, so at least one of the claws needed to have its upper side turned to the viewer. Then, power armour translates very badly into crouching and stealthy stances, at least to my level of skill. For a while, this pose made it look like Shrike was prancing like a Red Riding Hood on her way to Granny, but eventually came out well.

He seems like a great character, this Shrike, but his armour has too much bling and white. Plus, it's my belief that Raven Guard are tribal and ruthless, so skulls and feathers make sense.

Dear God, if Shrike's model was a fraction as cool as your reinterpretation I'd already have purchased a handful by now.

I understand the greenskin skull, signifying his actions on Targus and whatnot, what about the helmet? Does that specifically represent something?

EDIT: Ahh, does it have to do with Voldorius? I was unaware of that part of his background.

Despite him being a Loyalist, this guy is pretty awesome.

To be fair to you though, I don't think Space Marine armor can look stealthy and still look like Space Marine armor, unless it's an ad hoc design of the artist or some sort of carapace armor. Or at least I've never seen anyone pull it off without it looking supremely awkward.

I've seen people do fairly well by making them look special-ops-ish. Remove the shoulder guards (which are admittedly as iconic as they are impractical) and throw on a lot of little pouches for ammo and some goggles/scopes/silencers. Bam, stealthy...sort of.

Anyway *menacingly rubs hands together* soon...soooon. ;)

well there are always other chances to draw that kind of foot wear on a PA marine.

Let me just wish everyone around B&C a Merry Christmas. Special thanks to all those who've visited, commented and criticized Clever Girl and its contents.

Cheers, mates.

Merry Christmas to you too Greyall. hope you have a good time.

And a joyous nondenominational winter months celebratory event season to you as well.

When I saw you had posted, I crossed my fingers that my pic was done just in time for the joyous nondenominational winter months celebratory event season, but I suppose I will have to wait a little longer into the joyous nondenominational winter months celebratory event season to celebrate the event of a Templar introduced joyously to the winter months in time to slay nondenominational heretics....

:D

Merry Christmas to you too mate! Fantastic work!

My only minor niggle with Shrike is that, even with the set of proportions you work with (while not my first choice, your work is convincing me otherwise...) I think the beaky helm is a little short and stubby. I wonder if, given the reduced size of the head, the beak needs to be slightly exaggerated from normal to maintain the same feel.

Greyall, at the risk of sounding sycophantic, pretty much all of your drawings are definitive portrayals for me. And the fictional characters you created are in my mind as official as anything else. And in some cases they're my favourite characters from their respective armies. For example Sagittar Expletive Phract. No end to my fistpumping when saw him appear in the piece of fluff on the previous page.

Sagittar shall receive a new version soon, mate, thanks to your comment.

In the meantime, let me close 2012 with righteous zeal.

High Marshall Ludoldus of the Black Templars, courtesy (and design) of our brother Firepower. Thanks for the challenge, mate. Here's how the old guy turned out.

Hope you like it, mate. Hope you all like it.

Cheers, guys.

Shrike looks amazing brother. But I think I found a new favorite in your latest drawing.

This is what a Templar is supposed to look like. The level of detail is astounding. The pauldrons, flowing banners and parchment, everything is jaw dropping. That sword is beyond inspirational. Best yet!

Wow, you really ran with that idea didn't you? :)

I love how the signature shoulder guard came out, and I'm glad to see the Crown of Crosses and sword maintained their simplicity without any cost to sheer awesomeness. ;)

You changed up the pose, but then a high guard is much smarter than a low guard, so good call there. :)

And the rest...well, you just went to town it seems, and it worked marvelously. Chains and swords and skulls and shields and lanterns and crosses-crosses-crosses.

For the one bit of criticism, the cape seems to be caught in a breeze that doesn't affect any other part of him. All the parchments and his tabard are going right, and the cape is going the opposite way. It's not a glaring flaw by any means, and it actually does a lot for the overall composition. It was one of those things I noticed only after gawking for 10 minutes or so: a 'Wait a minute?' sort of moment ;)

He looks like he could proper garrote a Greater Demon. Many thanks to you, and I'm glad to see the year end on such a note. Now I just have to see if I can cajole our mad artificer Eberious over in the BT subforum to try building this guy....
