Augustus b'Raass
I think he looks brilliant, despite your misgivings. I dunno how much your regular super glue costs, but if your super glue doesn't dry well of late, perhaps a zip kicker is your thing? Augustus b'Raass
Augustus - Thank you. We are our own harshest critics and I'm a particularly pessimistic/negatively minded person, so I do need the likes of you to set me straight on the nitpicks. Cheers for the link, that sort of thing may well come in handy. The other problem I'm facing is it's very 'runny', almost like water so unless you apply the tiniest amount it will run all over the place. Given my predilection for painting bits spearately and then assembling, even grenades, it's proving challenging to avoid messing up paint. Zip kicker is runny like water, so that will incur the same problems. An additional problem is that the Super glue bond is slightly more brittle when using Zip Kicker. I'm not sure though why you paint everything seperately and then assemble. The seperate parts I usually do are as follows: leg+Torso+backpack, left arm+ pad, right arm+bolter+pad, and the head. you could make a point about doing the pads seperately, but seriously, you're just making your own life needlessly difficult if you paint even the grenades seperately. And I do mean needlessly, because come on dude. Perfectionism is one thing (which I admire) but painting the grenades seperately - and especially glueing them after painting them - is insane. INSANE! :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/240799-crimson-tears-deathwatch-and-inq28-updated-050223/page/25/#findComment-4469494 Share on other sites
Biohazard
The glow effect on those las cannons is absolutely stunning as always. Have you ever tried using gel superglue? I use some loctite stuff as I had the same issue with glue running everywhere and not gripping when it was meant to. Riconas
Superb stuff as always; I'm curious as to what you use to write onto the scrolls and parchment; I tried using an ultra fine point Sharpie, but it was still too fat, and I've tried using a very fine brush, but it doesn't come out well. sockwithaticket
I've finished the Tarantula properly now, it's based and has an isolated Crimson Tears veteran using it to watch his back on the streets of a besieged hive:http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/8/825863_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/8/825864_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/8/825865_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/8/825866_sm-.JPGGiven the Deathwatch being propelled to prominence again recently, I've felt the pull to return to mine imminently. First up is a Raptor with Stalker Boltgun who's probably about 70% done:http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/8/825868_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/8/825869_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/8/825870_sm-.JPGI wanted him to look like he'd just made a shot (hence the casing at his feet) and was surveying for a new target. Gave him a punch-dagger on the right arm as it seems like a Raptor-y kind of thing to have and the loose ammo from the Sternguard sprue is done up in a variety of garish colours to represent an exotic array of toxins for taking out choice targets. Then there's these two:http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/8/825871_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/8/825872_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/8/825873_sm-.JPGThe one on the left has a Chapter (can you guess what it is? Nothing to do with Wolves.) the Shotgun-wielder does not, but I've got a couple of ideas.Lastly this Fire Angel (or Avenging Son, haven't entirely decided yet)with frag cannon:http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/8/825867_sm-.JPGMight not look like much, but that cannon is from the Overkill Imperial Fist (I want the body for something else) and it took a good while to make it fit.Augustus - Oh right, that'll teach me to read a bit more, it looked like activator spray. Yeah I know it's not necessarily the most sensible way of doing things, but I often find myself changing my mind about things like holster, pouch and grenade placement as work progresses on the model, and it's a boon not to have to try and pop them off if a thought grabs me.Biohazard - Thanks, buddy, it was fun if time consuming. I haven't actually, usually my regular super glue hasn't been an issue, it's just this bottle. I'm starting to work around it a bit now I understand the properties a bit better.Riconas - cheers, I just use my size 0 Rosemary & Co brush, sometimes I'll put add a touch of drying retarder if I'm looking to go extra fine. I usually do a coupe of practice sweeps on my palette to kind of get my eye in before attempting it on my already painted stuff.Hrolf - thank you very much, though that's a mighty strong allegation. Outside of the Chapter's Librariarius there's no sorcery here, just a pointy brush, swearing and touch-ups. deathspectersgt7, Argent aquila, Kierdale and 2 others 5 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/240799-crimson-tears-deathwatch-and-inq28-updated-050223/page/25/#findComment-4495487 Share on other sites
Biohazard
Tarantula looks great with the base. The Raptors stalker Bolter is that from Anvil? sockwithaticket
Thanks, buddy. It sure is, the ironically titled 'Negotiator' rifle. It's a great kit, 3 different barrel attachements of varying length and muzzle, 3 different ammo clips, optional stand. I'm not a fan of the official Stalker, I much prefer the sniper rifle look this provides. sockwithaticket
It's 3rd party, a shapeways store called Pop Goes The Monkey, they have all sorts on there and you can order your very own 'custom Deathwatch' set with 10 different pads or pick from the ones already there (previous customer orders). I rate it highly, not the cheapest it must be said, but that depends on the value you place on being able to customise your DW without having to resort to freehand. DaBoiKyknos
Yeah, I know of them. I actually guessed it was from then, lol. Did you have them make a custom chapter badge as well? If yes, how did that work out? Thanks alot in advance. Greetings, Velype Edit: I think its a good thing, that they already have so many styles for Minotaurs, Bleck Templars and a lot of others, so you don´t have to pay for a custom one, if you play one of the lesser known chapters. Riconas
Did you have them make a custom chapter badge as well? If yes, how did that work out? I'm curious about this, as well; I was ready to go the print-your-own-transfers route for my chapter badge (which I may still have to on the minis I've already assembled), but if I can pay a fair amount to have someone 3D-print them for me instead, I'm totally willing to do that. Shoot, maybe that will be the motivation I need to get myself a 3D printer finally. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/240799-crimson-tears-deathwatch-and-inq28-updated-050223/page/25/#findComment-4514878 Share on other sites
sockwithaticket
A trio of finished models today. By my standards they've come together pretty quickly! Admittedly I'd basecoated a couple of parts on the assault marine a while back, but it's still unusual for me to finish so much in such a relatively short space of time. Insomnia is good for something after all...Crimson Tears Assault Marine:http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/10/2/830321_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/10/2/830322_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/10/2/830323_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/10/2/830324_sm-.JPGDeathwatch Raptor (who was actualy finished a week and a half ago, but I only remembered to post him in my showcase thread):http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/20/828228_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/20/828229_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/20/828231_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/20/828230_sm-.JPG Deathwatch Emperor's Sword:http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/10/2/830316_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/10/2/830317_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/10/2/830318_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/10/2/830319_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/10/2/830320_sm-.JPGAccording to Lexicanum 2 Chapters have borne the Emperor's Swords moniker and both have been destroyed in the 41st Millenium. This battle brother is the sole survivor of the second chapter, whose homeworld turned out to be a dormant Necron tomb world. While he was on secondment with the Deathwatch, the Necrons awoke. As far as is known, he is the sole surviving member of the Chapter. Consequently, he has been given dispensation to keep not just his right shoulder pad, but also his Storm Shield in his chapters heraldic colours. The scrolls attached to his backpack are a list of every member of the Emperor's Blades lost in the homeworld's destruction. This particular marine came from numerous Ravenwing bits I had lying around and not knowing what to do with them until browsing Lexicanum's list of loyalist Chapters and discovering that neither iteration of the Emperor's Swords had established colour scheme and iconography, but certainly posessed cool back stories for a DW member. Given that Ravenwing symbols are actually pretty similar to those of the Emperor's Children and the similar nomenclature of the Swords to former glory boys of the Imprium I thought to go with the EC's purple as the base colour, but replace their gold trim with silver; a nod to potential origins (we all suspect/know the High Lords of Terra have tried to utilise the geneseed of Traitor Legions in the past...).LordVelype - I haven't actually, my Chapter Symbol is one of the few things I'm happy to freehand and shoulder pads with Blood Drops on them aren't particularly hard to find. I do know that someone in the BA forum asked the guy to custom design some Rogue Trader era BA icons and he did (they're up for sale in the store) and he reported back to us all on either the 'BA Today' thread or the '3rd Party Bits Database' one that they were good. May even have been some pictures of he finished products, I can't quite recall.Riconas - See above. sockwithaticket
deathspecter - Cheers, buddy. Trying to emulate you in investigating the lesser known astartes.Charlo - Thank you, brother and I appreciate the sentiment, man, but, alas, for a variety of reasons, mine never see the tabletop. (And a small hipster-ish part of my brain is annoyed it's easier for everyone else to do Deathwatch now too...)Jolemai - It's a 95x120mm oval from Secret Weapon (Ruined Temple style), but you could easily get away with a 100mm round (if you can find one). Of course I've no idea about the scale of Space Crusade Tarantula's, but hopefully that's a starting point for you. sockwithaticket
Finally got my next siege dreadnought to a point where it was worth taking photos:http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/10/24/834881_sm-.JPGMulti-melta arm has been seen before, but it's undergoing a complete re-paint since it was done a while back and the old lens showed some brush strokes. Might punch the highlights on the purity seals a bit more and give the Crux icon a quick matte varnish coat, it's reflecting light too strongly. Completely forgot how much I fething despise trying to do edge highlights on big lumps of resin. Doesn't matter how much you try and level or sharpen them in the build phase, they're never quite right DaBoiKyknos, Brit_Legionaire, Dantioch and 3 others 6 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/240799-crimson-tears-deathwatch-and-inq28-updated-050223/page/25/#findComment-4543379 Share on other sites
