Call of Chaos update 1 - Iron Warriors Sorcerer

 

Just spent a little time converting the second Sorcerer for my Iron Warriors.  This model came about, mainly because of the Forge World Erebus model when it was show in the White Dwarf as it is a really cool model & also a while back I took part in a small 750pts event, where I took the Dark Apostle with the Buring Brand.

The painted part came from the Chaos Lord in power armour I try converting back in July for the Warhammer World Invasion.  Just in the end I was not keen how the conversion was turning out & as seen back then I ended up going with a Dark Apostle (Forge Chaplain) with the buring brand due to conversion idea more than anything else & painting the model the day before travel down to Nottingham.

 

So I use the power axe & the arm.

 

With Erebus model it self.  I kept with the leg due to the amount of really great detail & I like the rune sculpted into it, act as a source for the Sorcerer power.  While the body itself, while it a great model just the body part did not fit in my mind with the Iron Warrior look.
I might end up adding the skull/smoke from a left over Chaplain model (40k box game) from the cypher conversion I done few update ago, onto the Sorcerer backpack try get that Iron Warrior look/make him a bit different from my first Sorcerer - Krull.

I just need to add a bit of green stuff & this model will be ready for painting next week along with hopeful the new object marker.  I am looking forward to painting the Sorcerer.

Update - Call of Chaos

Very quick update. I was orignaly going to paint the Sorcerer next week..... but ended up just undercaoting the Sorcerer along with some Iron Hands I was going to paint that my local GW store today. So though I get a quick update on the model for Call of Chaos (three update per entry/chose)

As seen, this model still got a bit to go until it is fully painted. I'm going to spend Saturday painting the Sorcerer along with the Iron Hands models.

The Erebus model is really great, the amount of detail like the rune on the armour & Erebus face are really cool. It really tie in with current 40k era Chaos Marine look. I can not wait to finish painting the model this Saturday.

 

So hopeful have a update on the weekend with the Sorcerer when he fully painted. Also I might have some more Heresy era Iron Warriors as it look like my hobby challenge for that has been give more time which I will really need.

As seen there, there still a lot of painting before these models are ready.  I'm aim to spend tomorrow to get these models all ready for Saturday.  I've not got a new Nurgle object marker yet, I was wanting to wait until the new paints where release.  I wanted to try get the sub theme of each Chaos god into the marker.

After this lot been painted for the weekend & because stuff in my personal life should be settling down a bit.  I'll be focuse on my Call of Chaos models as of next week, which where -

IW Warpsmith (part are there just time),

Fallen Angels (part all there just time)
Then I change one of my units to be a unit of Chosen who I'll be converting into First Claw of the Night Lord Legion as there been a big intrest in kill team games recently & for 200pts I can easily get all six member of First claw from Aaron novels & a Rhino.  (Nearly got everthing I need to convert First claw)
I think I also added in Dark Apostle (yes third Dark Apostle for my IWs :) )

Still a few thing to finish on the model.  I'm going to re-paint the eyes & add the Games Workshop blue glaze to rep it as warp/psychic power being cast.  Also need to add some chip effect on the Necron trophie.
Should be able to get the Sorcerer finish by the end of today.  Once my call of chaos challenge is complete, get the photos of the whole lot/units I said I'd get done.

 

After that, I'm looking into adding another Forge & Maulerfiend models after Christmas with some conversion idea already planned, while I'm also working away on my new Iron Hands Space Marine army.

If I got the money before Christmas then I'm most like going to try pick up a Fiend box & try get some conversion done during the holidays (Assassin's Creed IV permitting)

This is pretty much what made me want to start collecting Chaos Space Marines when I started the hobby, from the Black Legions to my Iron Warriors.  Always look toward this art work along with the bloodquest comic Games Workshop use to do, when I'm looking for idea's.

Return from the DWARF Winter War tournament about 8pm & as soon as I got back home there a million thing to be done. But mange to get some time to get a quick post. DWARF usely run Warhammer tournaments over the years, but as of July this year have started to add in 40k. With Winter War, this is a event where money rise will go toward charity & adding 40k this year, think there was 70 to 80 people in total ether playing in the Warhammer or 40k tournament.

 

My army pick up the best army award. As said many times before, I'm always happy with the army award. It more my thing. Just I want to have a cool looking army & inspire other hobbiest as well as see other cool armies/why I enjoy going to tournament. While I may not collect say Tau, maybe way they base or done a conversion will led to idea for my own armies or future armies.

All three games I fought during today where brillaint.

 

Blood Angels - It was pretty much up until the end of turn 5, where one single dice roll could easy of change the game. It was Relic & Crusader mission mix.
Daemons - I ended up on table 1 for this round to my suprise. But was soon to fall as I was drawn against my friend Daemons, after already having had a practise game on Thursday there!!
Chaos Marines - I did not fall to far & turn out this game was to see who'd be 2nd place & best chaos player for the event. I'd fought the person back in July that DWARF first 40k tournament - Fire Storm. As usely it was a great game & great to get a re-match.

 

Also today seen the release of Armies of Renown, which is the Army of the Month article in the White Dwarf, with the past 12 months all in one book & my Iron Warriors will be part of the book :D

Though bit gutted I see no standard Black Legion supplments on sale.

Sorry I will not be doing a battle report as I don't really have the time & as Rapid Fire last month shown it hard to rememeber part in the games, more so when you been awake since 5am.  I think Rapid Fire round 4 on the second day, one of my friends had to remind me that there where some models I forgotten to get out from the case.

Quick update

 

During the weekend, Games Workshop release 6 brand new paints for diffrent effects. I mange to pick up three of the new effect paints on Sunday there

I'm looking forward to useing these paints. Also I had a hobby question for anyone who use the new paints.

I was possible thinking on useing Typhus Corrosion on my Iron Warriors tanks. Not the whole tank, would be more the vents on the side of the Rhino base tanks & around the rivits (sp?). But worry that this maybe a bit to much/trying to keep a balance.

 

The reson for useing this is. After seen the video on the Games Workshop website, it look like it has a cool effect. In my mind, I see it as sort of adding that warp taints to my Iron Warriors, as well as the standard seige & trench warfare. As said would only be on parts of the tanks. Seen the vents on the Blood Angel rhino use in the exsample video by Games Workshop

 

 

Call of Chaos update.

So having today off, mange to get some time to convert up First Claw from Aaron Night Lords novels. Just recently there been a few Kill team games going on & though it would be cool to convert up First Claw. Also I like Games Workshop army painter - Steve Bowerman Night lords that where shown in the WD & GW blog last year when the paints where updated

I've only converted up Variel, Cyrion & Mercutian. There still a bit more work before the models are finish & ready for painting. Then it just the rest of the memebers, just wanting on parts for there conversion.

There still a lot of file & green stuff to get done to the armour. Just while it a brillaint model, all the daemonic parts don't fit with my image of a Iron Warrior.
As said before with my own Iron Warriors. I wanted to keep away from the horn look for exsample. I wanted to keep with spike & the tainted look of Heresy era armour.

 

I'm going to try spend Sunday just to get the model finish conversion wise & so he ready for painting next week.

Update

 

While I'm waiting on the 50th DrWho ep to show on TV, though I get a quick update.

 

Armies of Renown book was up for order last week, which show the armies from Army of the month from the White Dwarf since it new format.  My Iron Warriors showing in the August issue this year :D  They've put the first 12 armies (year) into one book & a family member had order one for my Christmas.

So I just pick it up today & was given permission to have a quick look & it allowed the staff memebers that my local GW store to see the book as well.  To my surprise there some extra photos from my IW's & same with a few of the Armies of the Month seen some bonus image.  Really surprise & found it really cool. 

I don't care for the negativity that a few fourms have given this book.  I enjoy book like this & those in the past with Golden Daemons, armies or painting guide.  There great source for idea & general hobby greatness.  As said for me, I get a lot of idea from seen other people great models, while I may not collect say Tau or Warhammer Fantasy, there maybe a way they done a conversion or base there models or painted & it open up a lot of idea to try on current collection or future armies.  Not just GW, I've use idea from Star Wars with the clone troopers (ARC Troopers) for exsample when I started my Mk5 Iron Warriors force in 2008/2009.

I try this on one of the Heldrake (rememeber I got four in my army & possible looking that another to have it arm with Autocannon)

 

Next to a Heldrake I use in 1750pts+ tournament, the blood effect on my orignaly models is Red Gore, then Cheastnut ink & then once the model spray matt varnish, I go back to the blood & add gloss varnish.

The new blood effect it pretty much near exact/same & I will be using this in the future but after test it out, I might try this after my models have been spray with matt varnish

As said this model will be take part in Brotherhood of the brush by Warhammer World facebook page.  The Champion is a nice model, just there some parts that don't fit my image of a Iron Warrior.  It just for each Legion, in my mind I got a set look on how I view them.
So I just need to add some green stuff which will ether be done tonight after DrWho or tomorrow as I've also pick up the Hobbit extended DVD.

 

But the model will be painted & ready by next week :D

As said a few time, I'm collecting a small Heresy era Iron Warriors force as part of a hobby challenge on a facebook group/page I'm part off.  I'm just waiting on my FW Order to arrive with the second 10 Iron Armour squad & 5 Terminators.  It been nice painting the Heresy era models.  After that I think be a on/off army, where I'll pick up parts when I'm down in Nottingham or Games Day.  But wanted these models to show the - to Imperial eyes -  fall - Honour to my IW point of view :D -  of the 5th Grand Company, to where they are today in the Warhammer 40,000 world.

While the Champion model & the models from the Dark Vengace set are cool.  Just for me (apart from the Lord), they don't fit with the way I image the Iron Warriors, to much daemonic part.

Just when ever I plan out a army for Warhammer 40,000, I'll always have a strong view on how they'll look when it come to converting the models.  For my Iron Warriors I wanted to keep to a warp tainted Heresy era look & as said before in the past I never been a fan of the horn look that Chaos Marines have.

I just built Talos & Uzas a few moment ago.  While Cyrion & Mercutian where re-base.  For First Claw I want to try out the new Agrellan Earth paint after seen one of my friends use this on there brand new Son's of Horus army & also from seen the video by Games Workshop.

I just got Xarl to convert, so I should hopeful be place a order for the Seth model to use the chainsword weapon.

Also I shown Variel.  I'm unsure about the blue armour I went for.  I'm wanting to try go something a bit more like Games Workshop army painter Steve Bowerman own Night Lord army seen in last year White Dwarf when 6th ed was just release & on the 50 second mark of the video on the Games workshop web site

So hoping to have the unit fully painted in two week time due to so much on the go.  I think the Christmas holidays will be the only two week I'll have as my own space/time since the start of the year.  I've also got to get my Heresy era Iron Warriors all fully painted by the end of next week!!!

I'm aim to paint the Dreadnought along with the Warpsmith & Dark Apostle (Forge Chaplain) on the 24th Decemeber.  I've always aim the 23rd & 24th Decemeber as my own hobby time & also just to avoid helping family set up & tidy the house for Christmas.

Also on the 22nd Decemeber, I'm currently in talks with one of my friends about having a 7000pts game where it all fully painted models.  I'll be using the Iron Warriors & some Black Legion allies, while my friend going to use Tau & Dark Angels allies.  It'll be standard 40k just to help the game flow as nether of us are up to date on the Apocalypse rules.  I think they'll be written a battle report on there blog during the Christmas holidays as well.

Also while sort out some more boxies today since moving house back in June.  I mange to find my old 2nd ed Dreadnought who been in my Iron Warriors army since the very start in 2001

I've seen a few converted versions of First Claw, and they've all been pretty cool. But yours captures their essence far better than any of those. Cyrion is exactly how I've always imagined him!

As said I've really enjoy converting the models. The Chaos Champion has been a model I been meaning to pick up & the brotherhood of the brush give me that shove & to quickly work out how I wanted the model to tie in more with the look & theme of my Iron Warriors army, but the model still has it own look.

 

Talos has currently been undercaoted & I've just try the earth effect paint. So see how it look tomorrow moring.

Thanks.  I think I will get the kill team fully painted.  Some time it better to see the model once it fully painted & make any changies after that.

 

 

I've noticed a few kill teams cropping up for 30 & 40. What rules are people using for 6th?

My local GW store useing the bulk of it from the Warhammer World Kill team events, but just little changies.  Beyound that any other kill team games I see are base on the event pack.

I'm not usely a fan of smaller games, always preffering 1500pts games & above, only getting the odd 750pts from time to time.  But for Kill team somthing I will not mind.

I've change the way I painted the gold, just orignaly on Variel I was painting the gold the way I'd been painting the colour on my Iron Warriors.  But yesterday though I try the change & suit the Night Lords.
 

 

Also I try out the new earth base paint.  That first I think I ended up using a bit to much & it was going a little funny.  But re-try & it look really cool.  I use the Games Workshop sculpting tool to scrap off the paint during the first try & something I suggest using if you find you use a bit to much.
I then added the brown wash mix with the medium & then dry brush with bleach bone (still not use to the new names).

Then adding the GW turft grass which is brilliant.

 

Since then I'm still add a few bits onto the models & hope to get both finish today.  I'm also thinking of changing Talos right shoulder pads for one of the studded shoulder pads from the Space Marine tactical spure.  Then get the other memebers ready to paint for next week, due to getting Heresy era Iron Warriors finish for there hobby challenge which is to be finish by Friday!

Quick update

 

I was going to wait until I had First Claw fully ready until I posted more of them.........but..........

 

Mercutian, Variel & Uzas have been added. I got the models built on Friday & just with me getting my Heresy era Iron Warriors painted bit faster than I though during today. I also started work on my First Claw kill team.

Pretty much one of my friends where a bit worry about useing the Blood for the Blood god on there Son's of Horus. So a few of us where shown the diffrent way of useing the blood effect paint.
Still got more blood to add.

I wanted Cyrion to look like he just hit someone skull in with the bolter & elbow..... also my finger was cover in the blood paint when I pick up the model bolter. 
Also if you read Void Stalker, there scene where they pretty much cover in blood.

I just like adding the new blood effect. It great match for the way I've painted blood before which was Red Gore & Cheasnut ink follow by Gloss varnish. While waiting on First Claw & Heresy era Iron Warriors to dry, I though I add a bit extra blood on my Heldrake (part had broken & super glue went funny on it) which help cover it & also it did not look out of place on the blood that was already painted in the Red Gore way.

I just always like the Heavy Bolter from the Devastators set.

 

I just got Xarl & the Rhino to build & convert, which will get done during the weekend & that'll be part of the third update for Call of Chaos.. Then First Claw should hopeful see there first game next Wed against Space Wolves.

 

I've also just place a mail order for the Warpsmith, so I can use parts to convert my own warpsmith which will be base on my avatar which was kindly drawn by Madscuzzy. So hopeful start converting the models this weekend as well.
Just aim to have the Warpsmith, Dark Apostle & Forge World IW Dreadnought all ready to paint on the 24th Decemeber. When it come to Christmas time, I usely like to get the 22nd to the 24th just to try get my own hobby. Just due to how busy the Christmas holidays can get with family & Assassin's Creed, while 24th also mean I avoid helping out/getting the house tidy up for Christmas day/boxing day.

 

I still got to build & paint

- Fallen Angels for call of chaos.

- 20 Cultist with Close Combat weapons for Call of Chaos. I should hopeful buy the box of Cadains in the next few weeks, just before money spent on family christmas present.

- Forge Fiend: I got some conversion idea planned, just need to check some models before I buy the kits.

 

I'm also possible going to look into adding more Terminators units to my army. Currently been working out a 1500pts list that included 2x Heldrakes, my Chaos Lord Narach, 3x 3-4/5 Terminators, cultist & Obliterators. Just though be somthing fun to try out & possible look into exspanding on this army list for 1750pts tournaments for next year. It'll also mean I will finial get around to adding those Terminators I been meaning to get for some time/arm with diffrent weapons just so there in my collecstion.

Also I've always just like the look of Chaos Terminators since I got White Dwarf 202, along with John Blanche art work, this was the other one that also draw me to Chaos when I started the hobby

Finial - Just bought tickets for Throne of Skulls March for the Iron Warriors. So be some new conversion. Then if I can work out my Terminators theme list, I might use that for Throne of Skulls Septemeber later next year :D

Sorry it has been a while since I read the novels, just really busy during this whole year & not letting up until Christmas

Just wanted to get the Kill team all painted up & cover in blood to take part in the Kill team games   Just when I saw the sword first though it silver.
 

Same note - I'm going to change the gun barral (sp) part on the Heavy Bolter/Mercutian weapon as seen in the novels.  Just I'm wanting to try to get the same look as the skulls on the Forge World Chaos dreadnought weapons.  I have a few suggestion like useing the Ork skull or the skull on the melta from the Iron Warriors finecast set.
But will need to wait until I got money more than anything, just right now I just want to get my Kill team ready for gaming this week.

Unless anyone else has any other idea/kits (GW/FW only) that would suit the Heavy Bolter/from the Night Lords novels?  Just I can't sculpt.  But that'll get done during the Christmas holidays.

 

Iron Warriors

Here my Champion all finish for the Warhammer World Brotherhood of the brush, which I belive finish today.  Some really great enetry & it great seen them to get inspired/diffrent idea, as said from ToS/event seen other great armies can always led to trying out diffrent effect on your own collection or future army.

I was trying out a diffrent camera just for this & to send to the Warhammer World event team.  Really like converting the Chaos Champion model, as said before this has been one model I wanted to add, but this give me the shove to pretty much get the idea to try fit this model to the look & theme of my army.  Also allowed me to use some of the new effect paints.

 

Also just got the Warpsmith model today from mail order.  So should be converting my new Warpsmith model soon.  Been getting some idea from the computer game RYSE Son of Rome, with Damocles the black (vengance) centurion - see youtube.  Just the gladiator armour look cool with the sort of skull faceplate, which I'm wanting to try convert useing the skull on the metal from the Iron Warriors finecast set.  So try combi both that & my Avatar (drawn by Madscuzzy Admin of here/Bolter & Chainswords) & try draw other elements from the Democles armour/look.

I should be starting some conversion work in a few hours & also start work converting the Forge World IW Dreadnought.

Call of Chaos update.

 

I spent a bit of time between Saturday to today converting the Warpsmith. I was inspired by both my Avatar which was kindly drawn by Madscuzzy & also recently seen videos on a new game (xbox?) called Ryse - Son of Rome, see youtube & mainly the Damocles video which talk about a Rome General being betrayed by his Captain during battle.

I've use a Breacher shield from one of the older models that got replace earily this year. I though it would be cool that the Warpsmith came from the Breacher ranks & would still use the wargear. Also that he'd be with them during a seige to help out & led the Daemonic Engians. Thawill be glued once the model been fully painted.
I'm going to start painting the model tomorrow. But I'm also going to add bit as one of my friends is going to help me add a Skull to the faceplate, this idea being taken from the Ryse computer game.

While sort though more boxies after moving house, try find parts to convert Xarl, I know I got a Seth model kicking about somewhere.....

I mange to find some pretty important models I though I loss, lot of these being limited ed models - Emperor Champion, Chaplain fro Dark Vengace box game & Leonatos by Black Library from the Bloodquest comic.
One of the models I found was a Night Lord Champion I converted earily this year

So I add him to my Kill team in tomorrow game while I try to gather bits to conver Xarl.

I also got First Claw Rhino built & was hoping on painting that tomorrow. But there a few bits of green stuff work to be done as the Forge World front armour (Night Lord one) seem a bit short/gaps. It'll also give me time to add a plasticard icon later this week to the top hatch of the Rhino model as well & find some trophies.
So I'm going to paint the Warpsmith tomorrow & finish painting the current models in my First Claw kill team.
