IP, any chance of a closeup for Xarl?

I use the Chainsword from Seth, remove any Imperial icons.  The loin cloth from the Red Scorpian Honour Guards, left over from my Master of Ravenwing conversion for my second Ravenwing force.

I also part of the Chaplain weapon from the Dark Vengance model on the base left over from my Forge Chaplain conversion.

Regarding First Claw, did you run them as Chosen?  That's the only way I can figure for getting a Heavy Bolter in the squad of 6 in a killteam game.

What was your list for them if you don't mind?

Yes, First Claw are chosen in kill team games.

It was 6x Chosen & a Rhino, as well as Veterans of the Long war (always take this in my IW :D ), just allowed me to get First Claw arm with there wargear in 200pts.  I

Talos - Power Sword, Combi Bolter

Xarl - Combi Melta

Uzas

Variel

Cyrion

Mercutian - Heavy Bolter

Rhino - Extra Armour

We where useing the older rules & there rules in place.  This has led to the same with my Iron Warriors Kill team, where I will be useing Chosen so I can arm them diffrent just for modeling & general looking cool :D

Hope this helps.

I've been spend most of my hobby time getting my second Ravenwing army finish.  The army was almost finish when I started the Ravenwing last year, but I had to stop the project with the run up to moving house last year with them being in storage & then only getting the army unpack around October time.

It not far off from being finish, just a few changies to my 1500pts army list & a few extra models for 1750pts & 1850pts games.

But there will be new Iron Warriors models soon with Throne of Skulls March very soon.  I also need to fix a few models as well due to wear & tear.  Also once I have money, I'm hoping on buying the Destroyer unit from Forge World to use for my Raptor conversions.

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/The_Horus_Heresy/Legiones_Astartes/Space_Marine_Legion_Army_List/LEGION_ELITES/Legion_Destroyer_Squad/LEGION_MK_IV_DESTROYER_SQUAD.html

My Iron Warriors also attended my friend tournament which was during the weekend there.  Sadily I did not take my camera as I had a lot to carry with me, however it was a really great event with 7 games over Saturday & Sunday.  I ended up gaming against - Grey Knights, Marine biker, Orks, Nurgle Marines, Nurgle Marines, Nurgle Marines, Orks (re-match from round 3) with three wins, one draw & three loss.  The draw against the third Nurgle Chaos Marines force was 8 pts each & really hard call if the game went onto turn 6 &/or 7, I think in the end it was 2x IW & Warpsmith vs 3x Death Guards, Heldrake vs Heldrake, Obliterators in fire fight vs Forge Fiend that made 99% of it 5+ Inv save.

Also one of the Nurgle Chaos Marine oppent was Chris from the D.W.A.R.F tournament I went to back in July & Novemeber, I think it starting to become a running joke that we are asking what round we want a game as that all three event that seen the Iron Warriors vs his Death Guards.

Really enjoy the weekend & no two army list where the same which was really great.  I really enjoy trying the Warpsmith Damocles & Vindicator out, though I never got to roll a single Daemonic Possessed 2+ roll for crew shaken or stunned for the Vindicator.  I just wanted to take both models as I've enjoy converting both & just for somthing a little diffrent gaming wise.

Best army went to a really great Pre-Heresy World Eater army that was all converted up before Forge World release the diffrent Mark armour & when the Horus Heresy novles where just starting.  Then event saw a lot of really cool armies, Chris Nurgle Marines (see July/Novemeber updates on D.W.A.R.F tournaments) & the Biker army I fought in round 2 just to name a few.

I'll be adding some new trophies to the future Iron Warriors models due to some of the brillaint games during the tournament.  Both Chris & the Nurgle army I got a draw will be rep in the army, along with the Ork army as that was a really great tactical game :biggrin.:

As said that the start of the post, I'm needing to fix a few models.  Mainly things like the clear plastic rod use for the Servo Skulls & models here & there.

Update

I spent yesterday painting the Forge Fiend model while recovering from the Trivium & Killswitch Engage gig (right now the best gig I been to!) I went to on Tuesday in Glasgow.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/DSC07603.jpg

I still got parts to finish off before the Forge Fiend is fully painted. I got to add highlight to the gold. Add battle damnge to the Black Templars & not so much blood, but blood on the Black Templars, base & see from there.

Also after painting the Forge Fiend, I'm going to re-paint the engines part on my other Forge Fiend & Maulier (sp?) Fiend models as I found the way I painted it on the Forge Fiend shown on this update help break up the model a bit.

Other than that. If my friend rememeber to bring those parts, I'll hopeful be able to start getting the Raptors unit started soon!!

Also here WIP photos of the Forge Fiend, before green stuff was added to the model.  I want to try make each Daemonic engine diffrent & unique, tie in with the whole each unit being diffrent & with it own sub theme.  For this Forge Fiend I wanted to show with the guns that the Warpsmith have been adding the Obliterator Virus.

Very nice!

If I ever get a forge fiend, I'd want to make it bipedal also, did it stand upright ok without too much fuss?

Yes, I just use the back legs from the Forge-fiend model & no green stuff or pinning needed.  I added the pad bits that are meant for the Maulerfiend just because those pads always look cool.  For the arm's, it just the arm for the Maulerfiend & useing a saw to cut them off, add weapon of chose & then green stuff the Obliterator style of flesh to blend the weapon & arm's.

Just found a WIP photo to show the leg area -

Hope this helps :biggrin.:

Edit - Sorry there, seen the Fiend model has a lot of legs

I use the longer legs/once in the middle shown on the Games Workshop Black Legion fiend model.

Thanks for the cool inspiration again. That's definitely something I might try myself :)

Btw., I just checked your other fiends again and was wondering what your opinion is about the standard maulerfiend head is, as you've been using it for all your fiends so far. I'm thinking about what to do with my next fiend, because I feel like using the same head again might get a bit repetitive. Or do you think the conversions draw the attention away from the head anyway?

To be honesty it was difficult when I was planning the conversion as there not many other kits that I though would tie in with the Iron Warriors look.  I was originally going to try & use the knight style helmet from the Lord of Skulls kit after & saw that it would fit onto the Fiend body........ However it just £95 for that one part & also if I was to add another Lord of Skulls to my Iron Warriors, I'd also want to use that bit on the model because it look cool & I preffer it over the Daemonic one you get in the Lord of Skulls kit.  Like wise you never see them on any bitz site  :sad.:

Only thing is I could always look that the Lord of Skull model again & see if I can use this toward converting the Forge World Legion Basilisk.  But that will have to wait until March after Throne of Skulls where I will be aim to buy the FW Legion Basilisk kit with the event being held in Warhammer World.  That would give me that part to use/replace in the near future or for adding a new Forge Fiend so I always got the chose there for games.

There is possible the Nids models, but I lack the green stuff ability when it come to sculpting & unless it thing like Obliterator or building up the base.  I want to try avoid sculpting as much as possible.

Edit - Thinking about it, there possible the Bloodcrusher kit as well, I think I have a few spure kicking thanks to friends not wanting them after building there Daemon or Warriors of chaos armies.

But same time I always though the head use on the fiend model has always look cool.

Hope that helps :biggrin.:

I saw both Killswitch and Tivium a few years ago, they were pretty good. One of the best concerts I've ever been to.

Anyway do  you prefer the bipedal to crawling? I've seen a few fiends with shoulder mounted guns that look really awesome. Nicely done conversion though regardless.

Thanks Tanith Ghost

I think the Fiend model in general pretty cool & with this Forge Fiend wanted somthing a little diffrent from the Plasma Forge Fiend & Maulerfiend I already have in my Iron Warriors army :biggrin.:

When I get around to adding a second Maulerfiend in the future, I'll want that to be a little diffrent as well, but that will be a while.

Update

Almost finish the Forge Fiend, just a few wire that still need to be finish

Also I forgotten to show the Metal Chaos Dreadnought from a few updates ago

I've just to finish the left knee pad. I try a few diffrent idea but nothing was looking right, so I will be painting the Chaos star icon as seen on the right shoulder pads on my Iron Warriors units :biggrin.:

It been good re-painting the metal Chaos Dreadnought, as said before I had this Dreadnought model since I started my Iron Warriors back in 2001 & took part in my first event - Conflict Scotland.

I've also recently order the metal Warsmith model

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440207a&prodId=prod1130404

While I am not keen on metal models. I'm unsure how long model like the Warsmith will be around & if they will get cast in finecast, plastic or resin in the future. So though I'd pick him up & the model should arrive on Saturday. Just getting this model for painting/display more than anything else.

Current Work in Progress

On Sunday night I try building up some of the Raptors I bought a while back

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/DSC07611.jpg

As seen there, there still a lot to be done before the models will be ready for painting & that'll be a while until then. Just Champion & Melta Raptor to build when time permitts.

I might change some of these models to included some of the flying base to help give high/look like there flying, just wanted to get the models built right now so I can get a rough idea how I'll want the unit to look before I get them painted :biggrin.:

Warlord Marker

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/ironwarriors/insane%20psycopath/DSC07612.jpg

Not sure about everone else. But I do forget from time to time about my warlord trait, from writen it down on spare bit of paper or useing dice. So I though just to help me out a bit & also it would be cooler. Was to make Marker - Servo Skulls - 1 to 6 & model them around them around Personial (sp?) & the Chaos traits since they are the only once I tend to use in my games, I've never really use any of the other two.

So here, the dead Space Marine will be No1 for both traits, middile is No6 from the tables.

So aim to get these ready soon with Throne of Skulls March next month. Should hopeful get the Warlord Marker finish on Saturday or that least the once I have already shown here.

Update

Today saw the release of the new Knight kit from Games Workshop & it really cool. Since seen the Knight model in the weekly White Dwarf & Games Workshop web site, also re-reading Storm of Iron, I want to add this to my Iron Warriors .

I heard my Chaos can take it as a allies chose or even then until the codex come out, all my friends/oppents are more than happy for me to use the model in my army. Pretty much when the Knight was shown last week, my friends never ask me if I was buying the model, they ask me how was I going to convert the model. They know me & know me as a oppent, none have any issiue. Also end of the day it always down to cool models.

I bought the Chaos War-Shrine kit as well today when a few people where saying about a great conversion over on facebook that was posted during the day.

The Knight model really great to build, think it taken two hour in all to build the main kit. I'm keeping the model apart, beside making some parts of the model easyer to paint, it also just to carry the model to my local GW & gaming club. I will just need to pin the shoulder pads so they are easyer to remove.

I still got a few bits to add onto the Knight before he ready for painting on Wednesday & going sculpt the obliterator style flesh. Try get the model that least base coated for a game I have on Thursday that my local wargaming club.

Raptors

As said in the last update on Raptors, in the past this was a unit I would never though of adding to my army as I was never to keen on the models. But since the codex update back in 2012, we saw what I think is a brillaint plastic kit for Raptors & during that time I been useing a lot of parts toward conversion in my Iron Warriors 5th Grand Company force.

Sorry in advance if the photo a little blurry

The Raptor almost finish. I'm going to re-paint the jump pack for the burnt effect & I think I will use the painting guide shown on today Games Workshop - White Dwarf What new today, for the Imperial Knight.

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/wnt/blog.jsp?pid=13400048

Which is - Warplock Bronze, Runelord Brass, Brown wash & Ironbreaker.

It will be a bit of time until I can get the Raptor units finish as I got a lot on & few new models for Throne of Skulls March which is in a few weeks time!!!

Phew! It's taken a couple of days, but I've finally read through your entire log and have loved every second of it!

The amount of time and love you've put into your models really creates such a beautiful and inspiring army, it's a glorious thing to see. Bloody, good, job mate!

Thanks for the comments :biggrin.:

Incredibly cool.  I'll have to steal the warshrine idea, if I ever get my own knight.

As said there the idea came from a converted Knight that my friends shown me on facebook which you can find here

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287473-makes-me-want-to-cry/

Sadily I don't know who done the conversion, but it really great & hope they don't mind me taken idea of the Warshrine as it tie in really well with the Knight kit/chaos look.  Also orignaly I was going to use the Lord of Skulls for the conversion, I said a while back about part form the kit but £95 was to much just for the small amount of parts I wanted for the conversion.

But again I went against this, the Lord of Skulls is a brillaint kit do not get me wrong.  But it would mean waiting until the end of April until I got it as right now any money I got toward the hobby is going toward Throne of Skulls March at Warhammer World in Nottingham with travel (train), hotel, taxi & food.
Also if there one thing I'm know for is, I hate waiting!!  The Knight kit has been really great to build, after building this Knight model, I'd really like to convert up a second one to be a bit more Daemonic, machine, Obliterators look in the future just waiting on the codex to be release now.

Update

Spent today getting most of the Knight painted, still a long way off before he fully painted.  Hopeful have the model finish on Saturday.

I'm also working out idea for honour marking for the left shoulder pad & shine guard.

Also as said there, I got Throne of Skulls March in two week time & a few new models need to get built & painted. Hopeful have some of the new models ready during the weekend.

WOW, IP!! This is a huge thread loaded up with top quality stuff. Your modeling skills are great and I love the little bits here and there you throw out about you thoughts, et al.

The Knight is just fabulous!! My favorite bit is the front of the Chaos shrine atop of it. Did you use the new oxidize technical paint on it??

Very inspiring work.

For the shrine part.  It was Sotek Green mix with medium until it really thin like the wash paints.  I've still to pick up Nihilakh Oxide as it does look cool & one of my friends Heresy era Son's of Hours use it here & there along with many of the other effect paints.

All of the Games Workshop effect paints have been brillaint & I will be useing Typhus Corrosion on the Knight & the Forge World weather powder.

IP

Dammit IP! I'm really trying to avoid that kit but between you and GR I want to sell my vital organs to get one. That is fantastic. Anyone who wouldn't want that on a table top is a moron. Here's looking at the short sighted GW game developers.
