Update

 

Work started on the five Chaos Marine squad, four of the five squad memeber have been built & painted past the armour phase, aim to paint these models tomorrow that my local GW store

Also hopeful got some close up of the blood splatter one Unit 3, as said useing the idea from Space Marine the Computer game to try show this unit slow going down to the path of khorne, but not all out yet like the World Eater, my unit still make use of Heavy & Specil weapons & know when to hold there ground/object

My mail order should arrive on Sat, Bile backpack (come with cypher as well) for the arm parts. Not sure which heavy weapons I will arm the models with, just need to search my bit boxies to see what will look cool!

 

I'll also need to look into adding a 13th Company trophie, as one of my friends has started 13th Company for ToS Oct & might possible have some Chaos armour base on my Iron Warriors like the helmets.

 

Iron Warriors should be battle Daemons on Thur as well & then it look like I got another re-match against the Blood Angels on Sat. Hopeful try get some better army photos & unit by unit photos as well on Sat before the game.

The squad my object hold unit in 1750pts games. Since 5th ed troop have been key in object games. Like Orks will take a unit of 10 Grots purely to look after the object.

 

I should have some photos of the Obliterators soon. Mange to get some work done to them today. Painting on my own models has been limited as recently I been suffer a lot of headace since last Wed, but they are clear away.

Update

 

First up, it has been a little slow on the Iron Warriors force. Past two weeks I suffer from a virus which just led to me haveing a headace during those two weeks, but thankful it clear up now. That least it was not like the virus I had back in Oct/Dec which lasted for two months. Virus are the bane of my life ;)

I am getting back on track to get my Iron Warriors up to 1750pts fully paints, along with any other new models for my force.

 

I'm trying out the liquid green stuff once more to get some diffrent armour desgin on the Terminator. I always like the Chaos Terminators since I started the hobby fifteen year ago & it was great seen these models made into platic. However I am not to keen on the current body for the Terminator set, apart from the Chaos Lord one which you'll notice I use a fair bit.

I though be cool to get try out some green stuff on the Imperial Terminator armour

Right now this is only the first coat of liqud green stuff. I'll need to add another one tomorrow before I undercaot the model & then see how it gose after the wash stage if more green stuff need added to give it that right depth.

With this one I wanted to show the Plasma Cannon had just shot/re-charge after fire, as why the sort of bit come out of the Plasma Cannon (from the IoB Skaven Lord?).

On Fri my Forge World order arrive with the Raven Guard Captain (head use to convert the Terminator model show above) & Chaos brass etch. I though I would use the brass etch on my Capture & control object marker as I was not to happy with the IW icon I made out of plasticard & then the free hand painted Chaos icon. So though be cool to try the FW Brass etch

I am happy with this & the brass etch has given it little depth & just look really cool.

 

Also with the banner, I been thinking of idea to make it look really cool. Just this is my army standard, a banner that been with the 5th Grand Company since the crusade & during the heresy era.

So I been check out the front cover art work for Codex Eye of Terror, if I can get this to work it pretty much

I'm wanting to have a warp/galaxy & then a few planets starting to break apart, die from the power of chaos. Hopeful a friend will be shown me how to get a galaxy effect on the banner. As I been trying out few galaxy effect, but nothing working :(

 

Also I re-done the Icon of Glory banners for my normal squad as I think the FW brass etch is really cool

With the second wave release of Space Wolves, I will be aim on adding another 1500pts to my current Space Wolves force. Hopeful will have a topic on this once the army started. This one is going to be a pure Wolves force eg: Fenris Wolves & Thunder Wolves. It will mean I will have over 5000pts of Space Wolves with 3x diffrent force (Tournament, Wolf Wing & pure Wolves).

But until then I am replace a few Wolf Guard Terminators in my Wolf Wing force, useing some of the new parts from the Thunder Wolves kit

You can see the rest of my Space Wolves by looking through past topics from my tournament force, to my Wolf Wing force which I collected 2010 Christmas. Yes there a lot of Space Hulk terminators parts use in the conversion.

 

On the Iron Warriors - There still a lot to be done. There the Fallen Angels unit I still got to get converted & painted & then there a few new Iron Warriors models to be built once some more bits arrive (FW Honour Guard helmets). I also got just over a month until my Iron Warriors will be attend there first tournament since 2009.

 

I'm also thinking of place another order for the Chaos Brass etch to add onto my Rhinos.

Also gaming side my Iron Warriors (overall since 2004) have hit game 600 just a week ago against Imperial Guards to get some practise for Throne of Skulls April.

Quick update.

 

First up, just place a FW order for some more brass etch, the icon are just really cool. I've also got a few FW weather powder in this order as well, not sure which once I just ask to FW staffer to put in once that they think would suit my army, I just said how my model where base. Just a few friends have suggested I try FW weather powder & this will be the first time for me. These will purely only be use on my Rhinos (or any tanks in the future). I just need to get around to pick up MIG pigment fixer, which I been told a new model store in Glasgow might sell or fail that a friend said about how to get this.

 

I look forward to useing the weather powder. As said part of this was from suggestion from friends on the Thur while I was painting my IW/tidy them up that my wargaming club & also from what I seen in the FW Model Masterclass book!.

If it all work out then I will have a bit about this & general tips I found useful.

 

On to the Iron Warriors side of things.

I really like useing the Eavy Metal medium for the paint/mix for the shaven hair. Really hope GW release this soon :)

 

Also I added some Blood splatter on the Autocannon arm Iron Warrior from my third unit. As said with this unit I wanted to show them slow going down the path of Khorne, but only starting so they not thrown away there Heavy & Specil weapons just yet. I just felt it was odd that the Autocannon arm model was the only model to be clean/no blood on him.

The idea is, someone ran up to attack him or the Autocannon arm model in close combat basicly. He punch the oppent & then use his right elbow to knock the oppent back. With the oppent fallen back from this attach, the Autocannon IW useing his Autocannon that point blank range to shot apart this oppent.

Like the Space Marine computer game, when you rip off that Heavy Weapon & a Ork/Chaos attack you, you can kick them back & then fire the heavy weapon into them. If that make sence.

 

So just tie in with the unit since the third IW unit has blood splater onto them, useing the Space Marine the computer game for this idea.

 

That it for now. Hope my FW order arrive before the end of this week, then as said just need to pick up MIG pigment fixer which I been recommend to use to seal in the FW weather powder. I got a few thing I'll be working on for the IW & hopeful get the extra 250pts element shown a while back all finish up as a order for bits just arrive this moring to help finish off a 5x Chaos Marine squad.

Also still need to get around to make my Fallen Angels unit.

My Forge World order arrive on Friday there with the weather powder & another set of the Forge World brass etch.

The weather powder I got are - Dark Sand, Light Earth & Grey Ash, which the FW staff memeber recommend after I exsplain the paints I use to base my Iron Warriors force. I should hopeful be picking up some MIG pigment fixer in a week time, which I been told great for seal in the weather powder.

 

As said if anyone who use the weather powder before have any tips, be welcome. Not sure if I'd have them in layer darker going to light or mix up the powder? I'll be trying this out on a old model before putting any of the weather powder on my IW rhinos.

 

While my Iron Warriors force 1500pts is fully painted. Some times it good to go back, add some more detail just to make the army that bit cooler & that what I been doing since yesterday, make some changies & adding some bits

I notice on the Newborn had a cool Iron Warriors icon in white over the metal armour plate & also that himself & Cadaras Grendel had some rune which I though be cool as letter use on Olympia before the heresy. So been adding these to my IW rhinos, along with the FW brass etch

I'll be adding a little bit more chip effect to the IW skull but not to much. Idea just to show the planet, weather, etc.. My Iron Warriors are not ment to be brand new, want them to look bloody, chip, battle for a good few weeks, months or year?

Still a few more detail to get on. I'm needing to re-paint the squads Rune where the Mark of Undivided is on the Rhino door. Looking that the newborn armour for more rune/letter to use on the squad unit area/door. I think ToS April will be the time when my 1500pts IW force is fully complete.

Alpha Legion, cool. That is one Legion I am looking into if/when codex "rumour" chaos is release, as said with them, Night Lords, Black Legion, World Eater & Fallen Angels, but as said this all come down to the release of a new codex chaos which has been rumour. Check out John Blanch art work from Wd 202/2nd ed codex Chaos (or I posted on the first post) has some good idea for Alpha Legions. For exsample useing the High Elf armour for the scale look.

I really like useing the GW truft grass for the base & will be make use of this in future projects. Really recommend the truft, best to super glue them onto the base & then varnish the models, it look a lot diffrent once this has been done/not to flat.

 

As said during the process of making my Iron Warriors force. Once I am near finish, I tend to look though my army ether replace models or adding bits. This is purely because of new cool idea to be honsty, to try stuff like the liqud green stuff for exsample or the brass etch I use on my Rhinos or the Obliterators when you see Mk1 version vs the current Mk2's.

 

With this being the case, recently some models have had a little change.

 

One of the Terminators from the second unit. Pretty much I was not happy with the orignaly Terminator body. So I replace this with a new one body area (arms & legs are still part of the orignaly model)

The Chaos icon on the Terminator body came from the recent release WFB Chaos sorcerer (sp?). While I got some more Forge World Honour Guard helmets bits recent as well.

I'm happy with how the Salamander Helmet turn out. As said all my trophies are base on the armies I fought over the ten years (trying to rememeber them all :D ). While thinking back I rememeber battle Salamander back when I started my Iron Warriors back in the Games Workshop in Stirling (before the current one was open) & it was during those days I was getting into the gaming side a bit more with Conflict Scotland 2002. I would battle White Scars & Salamanders during those days in the store.

 

On that note, after trying painting the Salamander helmet. I am thinking about a possible Salamander force useing purely just the new paints which are due for release in over a week time.

 

New Paints - As everone hopful seen or heard, Games Workshop bring out a whole range of new paints. 145 paints in April. The paints I have use, I like them & look forward to useing them on future armies. One of the main paint release for me is the Medium. As said during this army log, I got the Eavy Metal medium to use on paint for a shaven hair look, I've really enjoy useing this & to see the medium release in single pots, it going to be as great as Badab Black (I do use a pot of Badab Black a week!, wish I could say I was jokeing) & Devlin mud in my view.

Finial a friend recently give me some of the Ork armour plates, the once I use though out this army. So I though be cool to add one to my test model I painted up just before starting this new version of my Iron Warriors

Also I'd added the yellow & black strip on the face armour plate after I painted this model back in Nov to just add that spot colour that I got though out the army.

 

Next week I should be getting the MIG Pigment fixer & get that FW powder sorted for the Rhinos.

 

With Throne of Skulls April in a month time I still got

 

- Galaxy effect on my capture & control banner, hope be shown how to do this soon

- Forge World weather powder, this will be getting done next week

- Destroyed Marker for my Rhinos, useing the Valyrie/Storm Raven base as it the same foot print/size as a Rhino model & can fit ten Space Marines. Just add a few bits left over from past Rhinos type kits.

- General tidy up my models, make sure nothing I miss.

 

Might be another Chaos Marine painted up due to new idea, but we will see.

 

Also while I am down in Nottingham, I am hoping on pick up the FW chaplain model I talk about during these months

I was orignaly hope to get this model & use the skull helmet for one of the Iron Warriors unit Champion. But I was unsure of the release & just wanted to get my IW army fully painted.

I will now be aim on buy this Chaplain to try convert into a HQ for the Iron Warriors, hopeful the "rumour" codex Chaos will have some nice chose if it release. But for now just buy this model & converting it for my Iron Warriors. Also looking that the Chaos Guards models to "count as" daemons in friendly games/bigger points games.

 

Also I am aim on building the Fallen Angels this weekend B) So hopeful have them in the next update along with the Rhinos. Just been a lot of other stuff on the go.

Update time

 

I though my 1500pts Iron Warriors army would be complete & done, I was wrong ;) As said though out this log I like to go back, add some detail, replace some models due to new idea. We seen how my IW Rhino went from free hand painted icon to FW brass etch & same with the banner.

But the army come along nicely & Throne of Skulls April is in three? week time, 28th & 29th April.

With the weather powder

 

Spare model - When trying somthing out for the first time it alway worth haveing a spare/old model to try out stuff. So for exsample with the yellow, I use one of the clip together Space Marines before apply this to my Blood Angels force. Of for the FW weather powder I had a old Rhino missing some parts which I painted a small area into the IW colour just so I could see how the powder would look & if I needed to make it darker or lighter when mix the 3x powder together.

 

FW weather powder - I found it was better to mix the three I had. When apply the powder it best useing a dry brush, for me I use the GW medium dry brush as this give me better control when apply the powder onto the tank.

 

MIG pigment fixer - First up make sure your wearing a dust mask or that least have the window open. When useing this I use the GW wash brush & just dab it onto the weather powder (I also try to make sure that the brush was not to over the top with the MIG pigment fixer, by wipe some off on some paper) as I was being careful not to have any of the powder wipe off. That first it seem the powder was going away, but once this stuff dry the powder is alright & is seal in.

I give my Rhinos 2x Coat of both the powder & MIG pigment fixer. Went with a layer of FW powder, then seal that in, re-do the FW powder & once again seal that in with the MIG pigment fixer.

 

When working with the Powder, it worth having a sheet of paper. Just so you don't get any onto your cloths & it easy in my view to get this onto the bursh, like paint on a palettes.

 

For me I just wanted this to give a dust look onto the tank (not sure how it look on the photos?)/not muddy. I have like how the Forge World weather powder has give the tanks more depth.

Just my aim when start this new IW force or any army general make them look cool & to try out new things. For this IW force I try out Medium, FW brass etch & weather powder as well as useing yellow a bit more a colour I rarely use a lot off.

Bits on him are from - Battlefleet gothic for the parts on the backpack. Space Marine Tactical: Helmet (trophie) & camera, Scout: Bionic/Googles, Devastators: Backpack bit, Orks armour loin cloth use though out my army (just seem to fit in with the seige & trench warfare & Chaos nature), Kroots/Ork pockets, Grey Knight for the left hand, Space Wolf Melta gun, Grey Knight ward staff for the spike to go on the Chaos shoulder pad & I think that it.

 

Salamander trophies on him will be base on my friend force when I use to fight them back in the GW store I use to work in.

 

Also I re-base one of the Iron Warrior from the 3rd unit. Just his orignaly base, super glue got spilt & a little bit to much static grass go onto it. So replace it with a even better base now

Again like the last one, take a Chaos star image from the internet, scale it down & then double side tape onto styrene/plasticard & then cutting out. I also cut out the corner part to make the icon a little diffrent.

Well Throne of Skulls April is in a week & a half time & there still a bit to do

I was down in Warhammer World last week as part of a store trip/mini tournament & pick up a few Forge World item. One of them if the Chaplain model I commented on the topic now & then

He just getting painted purely for painting comp. The Axe head come from the Khorne Champion from the Warhammer Fantasy range. Really like the look of the axe & will use this idea for future Iron Warriors conversion or Chaos armies (new codex permitting)

I orignaly wanted to have a Galaxy effect on the banner. But any time I try this on a spare model, it did not turn out right & made the FW brass etch Chaos icon fade away. So looking though the White Dwarfs, I came across the Warhammer Fantasy 30th year, when Harry the Hammer model was release. One of the Eavy Metal painter Neil Green had painted some nice Daemonic face on the armour plate. So though be cool to paint this onto the banner.

 

I only painted the corner as I do not want these to over shadow the Chaos icon.

 

I got one finial conversion to do before Throne of Skulls. I recently got my hands on ADB Night Lord Novel - Void Stalker & like the last two Night Lord novels, it brillaint. I am thinking of replace one of the Khorne theme Iron Warriors to have a Executioner chainblade like Xarl from the Night Lord novels

So I will be mail order Seth from the Flesh Tearer range tomorrow & hope this arrive on Fri. Just though be somthing cool & just when people are looking that the army, it stuff like that they'll notice.

 

So hopeful the next update I will have my Iron Warriors background. While it is not needed, end of the day like my Space Wolves. My Iron Warriors - the 5th Grand Company, are my favrout force & it bring life to the army. Not just that, but also my IW have been around for over ten years, in my view it would be a insult if I did not included background to this force.

Also will have photos of each unit once more as they are. Since there been a few changeies.

Ork Nobz box set. You got that one with the armour plates & a normal cloth which I'll be make use of both though out this project. Lot of bits that I use though out this project will be Grey Knights, Death Company, Vampire Count, Kroots, Orks, Bezerker & Chaos Marines :D

I've recently been reading Void Stalker this past week. I use Flesh Tearer Seth model for the chainsword weapon. Just felt the image fitted in with the 3rd unit of Iron Warriors, as said they are slow going down the path of khorne & just be somthing cool when people are looking though the army to notice stuff like this & the crusifed space marines.

On the chainsword, I added the Chaos star icon which is from the Warhammer Fantasy Chaos Sorcerer model, the same kit I use on the Terminator model a few update ago (one with the Salamander Trophie).

 

Painting before a event - This has been somthing that happen since I started attend tournament back in 2002 with Conflict Scotland. Pretty much I alway seem to be painting up to the very last moment of a event. Conflict Scotland 2002, the day before I pick up the metal Chaos Sorcerer for my Iron Warriors purely because he was a cool model. Since then it went from a Emperor Champion, replace a weapon for a razorback, etc... over the past ten years & it just dose not seem right if I am not painting up to those last moment.

So the model show there will be painted on Wed & going to spend Thur just make sure my Iron Warriors are all tidy up, nothing miss out, etc...

 

Trophie - I had a really good game vs Orks yesterday & my oppent saw the orks skull among the bits to convert the model. So they said to paint a blue mark on the skull to rep his force. Blue because they are collecting a Deathskull clan theme force, which is really nicely converted.

So I will add some tatto or somthing to show it as a Deathskull & see if there logic work blue = lucky :P

Not sure what chapter I will be the Space Marine helmet from.

As said all trophies in this army are base on armies I fought in the past & present over the past ten years.

 

This is the Iron Warrior sorcerer I painted back in 2002 before my first tournament - Conflict Scotland. The days before I use inks that all & when I started my Iron Warriors force.

Yes Eddie Orks where brillaint, I was told I was very close on the vote with himself for the overall best army award. Eddie orks army was brillaint & it armies like that show me why I enjoy the hobby & I got a load of idea from his force to try out on other armies :blush:

Quick update before Game of Thrones is on TV

 

Throne of Skulls was this weekend & it was a good weekend. My battle report up, just one more battle to do & then a bit about stuff.

 

But a quick bit on here. Overall I had five brillaint games vs five oppent, along with two great practise games as well. I won 2 games, loss 2 & draw one. I also saw I got three or more oppent vote for me as there favrout oppent (after the games, you vote for one of your five oppent) which was really cool.

Overall I came in top 30 out of 132 gamers, with 12 pts. I notice that the Best Chaos Player had 13pts in the tournament, so happy how close I was by 1pt, so right now am the second highest Chaos Marine player from ToS out of 11 Chaos Marine player that attended.

 

Alsp my Iron Warriors where up for Best Army nominee along with seven other players. The overall winner went to Eddie with his brillaint Ork force. I hear that I was just a few vote out from himself as well :P

So really happy with this

Autocannon, pretty much need -

 

Plastic Space Marine Heavy Bolter from the Devastator set.

Assault Cannon from the Ravenwing or Land Speeder set. Terminators one can do as well.

 

Cut off the gun nozzle of the Heavy Bolter. With the Assault Cannon pretty much cut it to length. You will notice the circle area of the Assault cannon are not on the model & the little rod/beam/support under has been cut to the length/to fit into the Heavy Bolter area. So should be

Pretty much look that the photos posted here & the bits you got.

 

I also made use of the Imperial & Chaos Battlefleet Gothic Chaos ships for the bits on the backpack. Camera on the left area is from a Space Marine helmet. That pretty much it & some trophies from the Cygor Beastmen Monster kit.

Graham McNeill short story Chain of command on Uriel & how he became captain :confused:

 

Cursifed Space Marine - Both arm's are from the Space Marine Captain set, the once that hold the Power Weapon. Left arm need no work other than to cut off the hand & replace it with a hand from the Grey Knight Power armour kit (as said GW release a lot of cool kits offer a lot for conversion & further depth to your armies). The right one the same in term of power weapon arm from Marine captain set but make it for the right, just sort out the shoulder area & you could be ok. Hand wise, the right hand came from the Tactical Marine, cut off the tumb & place it so it look right handed.

I might replace this in the future & trying out a Grey Knight hand converted for the right, just that the time it what I had.

 

Spike from the skull trophie in the Chaos pack. Just add them once the Marine glue onto the hull. You might need a plastic rod as well for behind the arm/if there a gap between the arm's to the hull of the Rhino just to show where the spike are going though on the arm's.

 

Legs. For the Ultramarine I cut the legs off from the knee cap area. Then drill the legs hollow, useing a scalpe blade for the crack armour & broken effect (becareful with the blade). For the left leg, just added a bone from the Vampire Count range, unsure what kit as it was randomly in my bit box so check out/ask local vampire count player.

 

That pretty much it. Just case of makeing up the model, place it onto the rhino & make sure that the Marine fit before glueing to the hull. I know for both the Ultramarine & Templar, I had to re-pose the arm a few time or the leg area of the model so it fitted with the hull of the Rhino. You will also notice on the Ultramarine & Templar there arms are pose diffrent as well. Also some green stuff maybe needed so don't worry to much about gaps in the arm area.

 

On the Iron Warriors front - Now I have a bit more of my own hobby time. I got a few thing line up. I am current painting a Salamander army (preview in this topic) the aim purely being trying out the new Games Workshop Paints & somthing to fill in the time in the hope codex "rumour" Chaos is release soon.

I'm also adding some new stuff toward my Space Wolf force, already replace a few Wolf Guard Terminators with brand new conversion.

 

While the Iron Warriors...... there lots!!! I am about to make one new IW for my tournament force, adding some trophies base on the Throne of Skulls weekend as it was a brillaint time, fought five brillant games & two practise games on the Friday/day before in Warhammer World. Also going to mail order a finecast Legion of the Damned sergant (sp?) for his helmet to rep the Chaplain my unit of Terminators gun down with rapid fire bolter, fought Black Templars in round 5 from Throne of Skulls, so though be nice to add a Marine helmet base on the Chaplain. With the LotD model being in finecast, it make my life easy :D

I just read the Iron Warrior short story from Architect of Fate - Space Marine Battle novel from Black Library. I like the idea of a Forge Chaplain for the Iron Warriors & they way he discribe (sp) in the novel. Also while down in Nottingham two week ago I pick up the Forge World Apothercary (last set.... damn those Blood Angel players!!!), think how cool they'd look with Bile backpack (the once use on my Obliterators for the arm). May not have a use game term but there nice models, be cool as the IW who go after a battle collecting the gene seed from fallen Iron Warriors.

Also still got my Fallen Angel unit to get made & painted. Just been really busy with real life stuff & as well as ToS I had a wargaming event last week I needed stuff ready for.
