your army is a true inspiration sir. i thought i loved iron warriors, but you show a true passion in your modelling and detailing that really shines through. i might just have to take some inspiration from your models and inject some into my iron warriors army. massive fan of this thread and good luck with your modelling projects (not that you need much though lol)
You're an inspiration, Psycho. What a freaking army.

This maybe the best thing to happen during the Christmas holidays ;)

Thanks Aaron. As said a few time in the topic, your Night Lord novels along with Graham McNeill Iron Warriors novel have help with a lot of idea toward my Iron Warriors Mk6 force. Currently reading Betrayer & seeing the Art work of the World Eater vs Ultramarines arm with boarding shields has made me really want to add a unit of Iron Warriors, useing the Forge world boarding shields

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-4000...PGRADE_SET.html

Not sure which unit I'd try this with, but I want to add them because it would be cool.

Thanks. As said just Iron Warriors has been my main favrout army & a force I collected for ten years, with this being my Mk6 army. Just over the year GW brought out a lot of great parts for converting & also just painting being diffrent & learning new things.

Iron Warriors side of things.

I'm going to get a bit of a big update done tomorrow. I'm going to take a photo of my force as it current stand with all the painted models, as it good to look back now & then on what ever army we collect just to see it progress & just take a moment to take stock on what need to be done, etc...

Also get a photo of the finish FW Iron Warrior dreadnought & Forge Chaplain. As I recently been spend today that my local Games Workshop store painting the Forge Chaplain & adding detail (blood effect) on the Dreadnought while I waited on the wash to dry on the Chaplain.

Predators are almost finish building wise. Just need to glue the extra armour on after this post & some trophies, then they should be ready to undercaot tomorrow afternoon.

I'm going to be posting pics of my own Iron Warriors as soon as they're complete (so in a week or so since they need to be finished for a massive apoc game next weekend) and looking at your army is leaving me with a sense of under-achievement on my part. You're a tough act to follow.

And yeah, I'm jelly.

I really like the blood effects, would you mind sharing your recipe? ^_^

From Games Workshop older paints -

- Red Gore

- Cheastnut ink

- Once the model has been varnish (matt varnish), I use gloss varnish on the blood.

With new paints, I would test out on a spare model possible - Khoren Red?, Agrax Earthshade &/or Seraphim Sepia & Druchii Violet. If it on armour I use the medium dry brush to stipple the blood but for weapons I use the Citadel Large Brush for drybrush.

On the Iron Warriors army - Just about to get the Predators, hopeful finish today. Last week seem to be never ending with how busy it got with Christmas, then Assassin Creed 3, etc...

Also try to get my second Land Raider built up later today as well. Try get a update some point this week.

Call of Chaos

++Update Nine++

++January++

After being able to get time away from Assassin Creed 3. I mange to get some time to get a few thing done for my Iron Warriors force.

Call of Chaos - Havoc Champion

Undercaoted stage

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/Iron%20Warriors/DSC06375.jpg

WIP stage

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/Iron%20Warriors/DSC06377.jpg

I will be getting both of these models fully painted on Saturday after I get a game in to try out some changies to my army list for Throne of Skulls March. Then that will be my Call of Chaos challenge complete. I will get a photo of the units that where part of the Call of Chaos challenge once these two are painted.

The Salamander & Raven Guard shoulder pads in the background are going to be use for some trophies for my Land Raider models. As said all trophies are base on armies I have fought over the years. I also though be cool to add these models as a nod toward the Heresy & the slaughter on Isstvan V.

I fought Raven Guard back in 2005 during a event in Warhammer World when I first started useing my Iron Warriors force down in Nottingham

I am also replace one of my Rhino hatch doors for my third Iron Warriors unit. Just wanted to update/change it to tie in a bit more with the icon with my two other Rhino unit of Chaos Marines.

The Chaos Icon was inspired by the once found on the Forge World brass etching sheets.

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/Iron%20Warriors/DSC06378.jpg

I also thinking of adding some blood effect in the third Rhino to tie in with the unit with there fall to the path of Khorne.

Predators

I just need to add some green stuff onto some area of the extra armour. I will also start painting both predators tomorrow.

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/Iron%20Warriors/DSC06379.jpg

Next up - I currently got a second Land Raider to get built & a third Heldrake. I will also need to get around to order some more Chaos Brass etch from Forge World for my Land Raider models.

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/Iron%20Warriors/DSC06381.jpg

I find it always great having deadline to work for from the Call of Chaos or events like Throne of Skulls, I find I get a lot more done both building & painting wise.

While for the Iron Warriors in general

I made up a new version of Chaos Champion Bronn Tal for squad 1 of my Chaos Marine units. He usely arm with a Power Fist, but for Throne of Skulls March to get some points, I am replace the Power Fist with a Power Axe. I'm useing some points to try get Axe of Blind Fury on my Chaos Lord.

Also the model will double as a Chosen with Power Axe.

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/Iron%20Warriors/DSC06387.jpg

While this week I will be getting the third heldrake in my Iron Warriors force, painted. Photo just taken after painting the black wash.

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/Iron%20Warriors/DSC06392.jpg

After this lot, I have two Land Raider to still build & then paint in the next few weeks. I will also be looking to make a Mk2 of my Iron Warriors fleet for Battlefleet Gothic

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/Iron%20Warriors/DSC06389.jpg

I bought a few ships for part to convert in my Iron Warriors force. But not just that, like my Iron Warriors force, my BFG force was painted in the old inks back in 2007?. I want to move to the new wash so I can add onto the fleet as I buy more ships in the future for some more parts to convert with my Iron Warriors or Space Wolves armies.

Battlefleet Gothic is a great game & I will be useing the 13th Black Crusade list, this is because it can mainly be base on the plastic ships making it easyer to build & carry vs metal models.

Third heldrake to join my Iron Warriors grand company :D And in good time with the release of the recent FAQ updates :D

I've still to finish painting some area of the heldrake model & it should be ready to varnish in the next few days. Just the base that is complete so I can use the model in games.

Recent been added Forge World weather powder to my two Predators tanks

Just a few bit of rune letter to paint onto the armour plate & just to get the trophies finish painted.

Also a while back when I done the Dreadnough update. I spoke about have the older 2nd ed era model & I think I said about it going missing. Well after spending the past week tidy out the garage I mange to find the 2nd ed era Chaos Dreadnought. Not just that, I also found a Ravenwing Battleforce & the 2nd ed Space Wolf Scout backpacks - Going to start my second Ravenwing army in Febuary (sp?), along with some Xeno's models of the Necron kind I was going to start last year. Also a pack of Forge World Raven Guard upgread.

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/Iron%20Warriors/DSC06402.jpg

Just the Dreadnought army was part of my Iron Warriors force when I started them in 2001 for Conflict Scotland 2002. During that time it got paint strip & sat to one side, waiting for a day to be re-painted. Now is that time. I just need to get around to makeing the base.

I've also recent been building up some Land Raider for my Iron Warriors. Like the Dreadnought, I use to have a Land Raider in my IW force back in 2001. There nice models to build & just adding them so they are there & for bigger games. Also mean my Terminators have transport

I'm going to order some Chaos brass etching tomorrow & also going to start painting both Land Raider this week.

I also mange to get a Forge World Mk3 armour last week which has been use to make the Raven Guard trophie, which I recented added to one of my Iron Warriors Rhinos

Thanks for the comments

IP, whenever you're next in Nottingham, i will have to buy you a beer for the pleasure of gawping at this army.

Thanks - Sadily I do not drink beer.  But you'll be able to see the Iron Warriors on the 22nd? - 24th March for the Throne of Skulls event.

Small update

I spent Wed just during the week there getting the third heldrake model finish & also started painting one of the two Land Raider for my army.

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/Iron%20Warriors/554293_396480653776171_738725284_n.jpg

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/Iron%20Warriors/529037_396480943776142_1140963532_n.jpg

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/Iron%20Warriors/19421_396480747109495_146417093_n.jpg

To help & try break up the heldrake model from my other two.  It was suggested about adding blood splatter to one of the wing, also be a good way to show the Vectro strike rule & I'm happy how it turn out & tie in with the rest of my army.  The Heldrake model will be use in my army for the Throne of Skulls March event which is now just two month away!

With Throne of Skulls, I will also be converting up a brand new Terminator after seeing this month new White Dwarf with a really cool Khorne Terminator conversion & then I got another Chaos Marine that will be converted up, both models will be part of my "paint before the event" which I commented a few time, I always seem to be painting models right up until the day of the event.  So just gather some parts for both of those models conversion.

Also

- Land Raider:  My Forge World order arrive today, Chaos brass etching which was just undercaoted a few moment ago.  So once they have dry I will be adding them onto my Land Raider models.  Hopeful get a update during the next few days with both Land Raider models.

- Cultist:  I've just pick up a box of Cadain.  I think I will go ahead & bring the unit up to 35 models strong.  I'm also going to try convert up some Heavy Stubber arm Cultist as well, one has already been converted & was getting painted just before I had a game against Necrons earily today.

Update

Land Raider transport for Terminator Squad 7 - Tormentia

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/Iron%20Warriors/DSC06414.jpg

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/Iron%20Warriors/DSC06416.jpg

There just a few parts to finish painting & I also to scratch the Imperial Egal on the tracks/to show the icon of the Imperial being defiled. Then it just to varnish the model & add Forge World weather powder.

Second Land Raider transport for Terminator squad 8 - Proeliator

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/Iron%20Warriors/DSC06419.jpg

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/Iron%20Warriors/DSC06420.jpg

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/Iron%20Warriors/DSC06421.jpg

I've also been adding some more Cultist to my Iron Warriors force. Orignaly it was mainly so I could have a few more arm with Heavy Stubber. But I am now thinking of adding a further five Cultist to my force, so I can have two units of 20 Cultist in my force/collecstion. These models where painted yesterday while I was that my local Games Workshop store, I should hopeful get the models finish during the weekend.
For the other five models, I am just waiting on my Forge World order to arrive with the Enforcer's & also a Necromunda Pit-slave to arrive in the post.

The Heavy Stubber conversion was inspited by Migsula Necromunda gang/guard bodyguard for his =][=.

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/Iron%20Warriors/DSC06417.jpg

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/Iron%20Warriors/DSC06418.jpg

Once more the third heldrake :D

It was suggested that I should add the remain of the Black Templars who got hit by the Vector strike onto the base. So I found a spare Mk7 Space Marine helmet. I just need to add a arm that look all torn apart/shreded. Just the aim is to try have ever model in my Iron Warriors force converted & to try have a sub theme to them to help stand out. Also my new Heldrake model done really well in the few games it been in.

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/Iron%20Warriors/DSC06422.jpg

All three Heldrake together. The second heldrake (left<<) still need the base to get painted up.

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/Iron%20Warriors/DSC06423.jpg

So right now I still got

- Finish Land Raider for Terminator squad 7

- Build another five Cultist when Forge World order arrive & other parts arrive.

- Finish painting Cultist shown in this update, get them painted during the weekend.

IP

I can't speak for anyone else, but they're a lot of work.
If you paint as you go, (which is my advice) the heldrake's pretty easy, but there's so much to cover, and if you paint the raised webbing differently you'll be spending quite a bit of time on each piece. I spent a good 2 or 3 days building and painting mine. It looks fantastic (well, not compared to these, because WOW) but it definitely took me longer than any other piece I've ever built for 40k.

Yeah that's how I do it paint then assemble usually. I try to glue together as much as I can though (as far as I can still reach it easily with my brush) but this thing I'm just wondering how far I could go with that. Sounds like both you can IP paint faster than I do though......

Tanith Ghost - When I painted my own Heldrakes.  I'd personial advice getting the base coat done first, then paint the trim, then this way you can go back & highlight the armour plate/area you base coated.  Just your more like going to get some of the trim paint onto the base coat, this way it'll allow you to tidy up & then highlight/wash.

So with mine it was pretty much - Note not sure new paints & it pretty late right now.

- Boltgun
- Black wash
- Purple wash
- Black wash
- Dry Brush Bolt Metal
- Dry brush Mithrial silvier

Note - You can swap the above with what ever way you done the base coat.  Just this is how I get my metalic colour done first on ever model.

- Paint the trim dwarf bronze

- Black wash (usely Black wash is done before the dwarf brzone on my standard models, but it to help save time with the heldrake)

Then I start painting the trim part with the other gold, then highlight it.

Once that done, I will go back over the Metalic work with Mithrial silvier, just to add highlight & to go over any area where the gold paint has went to/should not have went.

But as said same with any base coat & just go back over any area where you may have paint where it not ment to.  That pretty much it.  If your highlight the trim like I done with the Gold, you will need to take a break ever often.

I would say the trim part was the longest time wise when it came to painting the heldrake.  Once that was done, it pretty much took little time to get the rest of the model paints.  For the Third one I think I spent 2 hour on the Saturday that my local GW store getting the armour & trim painted.
Wed was spent getting the model finish.  Thursday saw it varnish & then Saturday a week ago was spent adding on extra like the blood splatter on the wing which only took 10 mins.

But overall this is the way I painted the heldrake.  I really enjoyed both building & painting the heldrake model.

I love this army. Just looking at it this weekend inspired me to start painting my Word Bearers host once again. Lots of work seeing as I've assembled most of it and so I'm painting it in one huge batch but you have inspired me to get it done.   Hope to see more work from you soon!

Thanks for the comment - You should start a topic on these fourms on your Word Bearer.  I found having a topic on here & also having dead line with Throne of Skulls events really help me & just to get into that frame of mind when it come to painting armies.

Also trying to spend a hour a day help or that least a few hour per week & just having a balance between our hobby & personial life.

Update

My third unit of Iron Warriors, the once who are slow going down the path of Khorne are getting a brand new Rhino, while there current Rhino will be given to my unit of Chosen.

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/Iron%20Warriors/DSC06438_zpsae34e7d6.jpg

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/Iron%20Warriors/DSC06439_zps4ae89872.jpg

I went for a crusifed Night Lord as 1:  Chaos are well know to fight among themself, 2: Night Lords are cool (see ADB Night Lord novels from Black Library), the blue armour help add contrast & who give me more of a better fight :D & 3:  I am thinking of starting a Night Lord force in the future so though be nice to test out some thing.

I just added the weather powder & waiting on the MIG Pigment fixer to dry while I was taken the photo of the model.  The Rhino will be going down to Throne of Skulls March.

Then my whole Iron Warriors force as it current stand since last time I shown the army as a whole

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/Iron%20Warriors/DSC06437_zps92e81ae9.jpg

Not sure how many points I am that, but I think I am that least around 4500pts for the Iron Warriors.  Currently I just have the crew memeber for the Chosen unit Rhino to paint & then that everthing I got in the force painted.  Also it good to see the army all together.

Just while collecting a force, some time it is good to take a little break & just see how your current collecstion look, just to get a idea what need change, how it look overall & what need to be added.

In the future.

I will be going back to my Space Wolves for a little bit to try get them up to date, basicly just re-painting some area so I move away from the old inks to the current range making it easyer to add onto the force.  Also to add Forge World weather powder to my tanks & general adding new models, currently my Space Wolves stand that just over 3000pts  You can tell when I enjoy useing a force I like to add lots to the army as also seen with the Iron Warriors over the past two months.  While gaming wise it just to bring them up to 6th ed, as the last time I use my Space Wolves was last year in July just before the current rules where release.

http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Insane-Psychopath/ToS%20Oct/DSC04029.jpg

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09002.jpg

I'll also be making a start on my second Ravenwing force, once I got somthing I like I'll be looking into making a project log for them in the painting area of the fourms.  I had a Ravenwing army back in 2005 & it was nice how it all fitted into a single case.  Also I like the new models which is the first thing to really draw me into collecting a force & if I can convert the models.

While the Iron Warriors.  Throne of Skulls March is next month so I will be converting a Chaos Marine, a new Obliterator & a Terminator for the event.  Which will also see the new Rhino & Heldrake in my force.  There also a Heldrake model that I need to finish the base for & that will be ready for gaming.

Then after that, unsure but there still lots I want to add to my Iron Warriors force from Dreadnought, Cultist, Close Combat Obliterators, the Maulier/Forge Fiend models & some more Terminator arm with diffrent weapon set up give me more chose., as well as making a start on my Battlefleet Gothic force for my Iron Warriors.

I would start a blog but I suck at camera skills, though maybe I'll have to start taking pics even with my unrefined photography.  I mostly do assembly line painting so it can become quite monotonous, maybe try doing assembly line one squad at a time?  I wish that there were events like Throne of Skulls and stuff around here, I miss having Rogue Trader tournaments in my area.  I have gotten more motivation though since my friend who works at the local gaming store has asked me to come in more often since he received a mandate from the owner to try and get more people involved in WH40k and to "kick start" it back up again.

Thanks for the comments

From one Warsmith to another, truly awesome work. I hope my IWs come out aswell. How large of a force are you going for? Also, the link for the photographing article was helpful, thanks.

Thanks for the comment.

For my army/how large the force will be, unsure it more I will just keep adding as it my favrout army.  Just take what I think will be cool to build/convert/paint & also do well when gaming/to just give me chose overall when it come down to events/tournaments & games that my local GW store & gaming club.

But same time there is going to be a lot of units I will keep out of my Iron Warriors ether down to keep to the IW background or so I can use them in future Chaos Armies, as I would like to start Night Lords that some stage, World Eater useing some parts from the Warhammer Fantasy Bloodcrusher Knight & Fallen Angels to name a few of the chaos force I want to collect in the near future.

But right now the Iron Warriors 5th Grand Company (Mk6) current stand that

- Daemon Prince: Warsmith Abhorred Riddick

- Lord in Terminator armour: Narach Delau

- Sorcerer: Krull

- Forge Chaplain: Harkus

- Warpsmith

- Chaos lord from Dark Vengance

- Forge World Techpriest

- 5 Terminators: squad 7: Tormentia, led by Champion Crysos Darr

- Land Raider

- 4 Terminators: squad 8: Proeliator, led by Champion Sevatar Rauth

- Land Raider

- 2 Close Combat Obliterators

- Dreadnought

- 8 Chosen

- Rhino

- 10 Chaos Marines: squad 1: Iupatus Proeliator, led by Champion Bronn Tal

- Rhino: Messor Ferrus

- 10 Chaos Marines: squad 2: Be Graphicus, led by Champion Uzas Vel

- Rhino: Fulmen Clavi

- 10 Chaos Marines: squad 3: Apocalypse, led by Champion Kroege Santarr

- Rhino: Demens Malleus

- 20 Cultist

- 20 Cultist

- Heldrake: Arbor Draco Extremae

- Heldrake

- Heldrake

- 2 Obliterator squad 5: Excessus Fillius

- 1 Obliterator squad 4: Oburo

- 1 Obliterator squad 6: Hydra Infensus

- 5 Havocs w/Autocannons

- 5 Havocs w/Missile Launcher

- Forge Fiend

- Maulier Fiend

- Vindcator tank

- Predator tank

- Predator tank

That should be 110 models & 14 tanks which are all fully painted.  Still to get names for a lot of these units & Champions.

Then for Throne of Skulls March I got another Chaos Marine, Terminator & Obliterator to convert & paint.

I'm current looking into converting a small Chaos Space Marine unit to have the Forge World boarding shields & looking to add a Rhino transport for them arm with Havoc launcher.  This way it dose give me chosen for a event for exsample where I can pick them or a unit of Cultist to act as my object holding unit.

Beyound that, just as said I want to try add some more Dreadnoughts, Obliterators & the Fiend models I want to try add more off.

Should hopeful have a update soon with my Iron Warriors fleet for Battlefleet Gothic.  It been a very busy week just there.
