Update

After spending the last few weeks re-painting some parts of my Space Wolves force & also making a start on my second Ravenwing army.  It now time to get back to the Iron Warriors, with Throne of Skulls March just three weeks away now.

Obliterator - I got some of Fibus Bile servo arm from the backpack which will be getting paint strip tomorrow & added onto the Obliterator.  Then I just need to add green stuff for the Obliterator style flesh on the servo arm's & part of the model armour.

 

Chaos Space Marine - I'm just waiting on my mail order nexy week: Battlefleet Gothic imperial ships, to convert his backpack.  Also just waiting on another Forge World Techpriest to arrive to use the servo arm on the Chaos Marine backpack.  While the techpriest model it self will be added to my second unit of Cultist.
Trophies - The MkVI helmet going to rep the Raven Guard.

I've also got my Terminator to build, it just a few more bits I need before I can start converting the model which I should hopeful get next week, basicly when I have money.

 

There also recently been talking that my wargaming club, that we may see a Battlefleet Gothic campaign in the near future as a few new people have just started pick up fleets/show intrest.

I will be running the Black Crusade list found in White Dwarf - 283.  Pretty much this allow me to use nothing by plastic ships as I am not really keen on metal models (building 9x Bloodcrusher, 9x metal killer kan & 2x deff dread in a single day can test your tolerance (sp?)).

I still to have a proper read.  It just I had a Daemon force back in 2008, but would not mind starting a second force & have them tie in a bit more with my Iron Warriors force, maybe have them theme on a force from the Dark Forge/where the Soul Grinder are made from the last codex background.  Like wise I'd not mind getting a Chaos Guard army force collected as I already got my 40x Cultist.  Just this give me chose when it come down to army list & going to tournament & pretty much just allow me to build & paint some cool models.

Right now my Iron Warriors force stand that around 5330 points as well after spending two month adding the new units since Novemeber.

Throne of Skulls March is next weekend. As normal it not a tournament/event unless your painted/building models until the day is near. Orignaly it was ment to be the Terminator, Obliterator & a Chaos Space Marine. But recently I been re-reading Angel Exterminatus novel.

Re-reading Angel Exterminatus has led to me converting up a brand new Chaos Marine just a few moment ago. Sub theme is roughly base upon/inspired by Soltarn Vull Bronn - "The Stonewrought". Also a while back I bought the Forge World Khorne Terminator lord for Lord Narach conversion for ToS October last year. There a really cool bolter on the power fist that I been wanting to use in a conversion & useing the art work from Angels Exterminatus seen on Perturabo

I am also getting the Terminator, Obliterators & Chaos Marine metal armour painted up right now. Just along with the model above, I will be painting these models on Wed that my local Games Workshop store. Just so I am not waiting to long on the wash to dry/so I can get all the models fully painted on Wed & ready for varnish as soon as I get home.

The servo skull will be glue onto the base once the model is fully painted & varnish.

 

Battlefleet Gothic - That my wargaming club annouce there Battlefleet Gothic campign (sp?), which will happen two week after Throne of Skulls March. So that will be good timeing for me to pick up a few things from Forge World & Mail order when I am down in Nottingham. I was ment to get some Chaos ships a few week ago but it seem there been some warp storms that have dely that.

Your stuff looks awesome dude, I love the characters.  There's nothing more epic than a converted Chaos Champion!  I also really like the Helldrake models, they look extremely dynamic.  

 

You also just gave me an awesome idea for a Dark Mechanicus/Daemon army I've been thinking about starting--converting my old Battlefleet gothic ships and running them as Plague Drones!  Good luck getting ready for your tourney man.

Those are some pretty marines, they look really gritty, techy and efficient, exacly as the IW should! And seeing your little chaos fleet makes me happy, BFG is such a stimulating game. Though, background-wise I always have a hard time playing chaos. It just pains me too much when a capital ship is destroyed! :P

I was aim to get a update done before going down to Nottingham.  But during the week I had the cold & it ment on Thursday after painting the new models, I got hit by a headace- first headace in six month now.

 

My Iron Warriors where that Throne of Skulls March this weekend, where me & my friend who took Daemons (Best Daemon Player) travel across Fenris or it seem like Fenris with all the snow we have while travel down to Nottingham for the event.

 

I'm still recover from the travling as it been a long weekend.  Travel from 7.30am on Friday, then back home after the event on Sunday 11pm.  Add onto this I had the possible worst time that the hotel as Friday I was woken by people arguing around 1am until 3am & then Saturday night I was woken up by immature people running in the hall way, slam doors, shouting & general being gits.  I have no tolerance toward idiots.

 

So this will just be photos.  My army was up for Best army nominee which I was happy with.  Just for events, some people goals are top 10 rank gaming wise or best race.  For me it the army side as it help give me that push, it always been my aim over the years & it what has help improve my hobby over the years as I like having & also seen really cool armies.

 

The photos are from Warhammer World facebook page as the event team done a really brillaint job taken the photos of some of my models.  Some of the photos are from the painting comp held on the Saturday launch time, while some where taken when my army was on display on Sunday along with seven other armies for the Best army nominee.

Ah sorry we never got a game on Friday.  But there always next time, I will be down for Septemeber ToS's 14th & 15th.  Or if you don't mind travel my wargaming club hold a two day tournament in Stirling just that the end of Oct.

Tech-marine.  Aye, once I get some energy I am going to try & convert the model later today & I still got the second Chaos Warpsmith I bought back in Oct.  See what I can come up with conversion wise.  Also I pick up my order which was lost in the warp, so my Battlefleet Gothic fleet will be ready soon, going to try get them all fully painted by the end of this week.  Sadily did not pick up the Forge World extra due to time more than anything else.

He arm with the Ap3 flamer from the wargear part of the codex. I'm going to try convert it, so the flamer is a bit more high tech. Also going to get my two ships built for my fleet for Battlefleet gothic as my wargaming club campign (sp) is starting next week.

The new Forge World breacher seige kit is really great. I got another four to make, as I am aim to take this unit to a event in July. But overall I will be making this fourth squad of Chaos Marines into a 10 man unit with Melta, Autocannon, Champion arm with Power Axe & Icon make me fearless (can not roll dice!!!).
I'm also going to call the squad - Blitzkrieg.
I've got plans to make a Rhino transport for them soon. I would like to try convert the Rhino model so it a little bit more heavy armour to tie in more with the background from the FW Heresy book on the Breacher & how I view there role in my army background/look wise.

So this unit will be use that a event in July, Throne of Skulls September & two local tournaments later this year.

I am useing the 13th Black Cursade list so I can basicly have a whole fleet of plastic models, as I am not keen on full metal models/general try avoid build them.

My fleet for 1500pts is

The campign started on Thursday just there & my Iron Warriors saw there first win against a Imperial Force that 500pts, I had my 1 Murder & 2 Slaughter?

So right now I'm just getting more parts together so I can get the new squad built with there Breacher shields. Also a few friends have said they got a few unbuilt Chaos ships for BFG. While the campign is 1500pts/stick with what we started in our force. It will be nice to have more ships/change my list about from what I learn from my wargaming club campign, also it just always cool to add onto any force so you got more chose more than anything else. Also as said in the past I use BFG parts in my Iron Warriors force, as you can see on the first IW carry the Breacher shield, I use parts on his backpack as a redio/comm/keep in contact with the army overall.

I've also to convert up a Chaos Lord in Power Armour for the event in July, so current working out some conversion idea. Also seen Forge World new Horus Heresy Destroyer unit, I would not mind seen what there like/maybe use parts toward converting my lord

As said there/shown in the photos of the model, the arms are from the Forge World Armenneus Valthex model.  Useing a Grey Knight Ward Stave, Space Wolf power Axe & the axe bit from a Khorne Warrior of Chaos Champion from the Warhammer range.

The Champion has still to get the wash stage finish for the armour.

 

Also not sure if this is happen to many people. But I notice the Sepia wash is going cloudy, has anyone else experince this & how have you sorted it out? The pot been shaken & mix, but notice with the Sepia that once the wash has dry it start going cloudy/not sure if it shown on some of the models here?

I did have other close up photos of each memeber of the unit but sadily turn out way to blurry to post.  I will get this sorted in the next update.

 

I'm just waiting on my Forge World order to arrive so the rest of the Breacher unit can be built & painted very soon.  A few people have ask me what the Breacher will rep in my Iron Warriors force.  These will be standard Chaos Space Marines, I've just added the breacher shield due to looking cool & just to have another unit of Chaos Marines in my force.  It also help sub theme the unit, as said I already got a unit who are slow going down the path of Khorne for exsample.  I like to sub theme my units to rep there own background & try to make each unit stand out.  It just cool when it come down to converting models & painting them, just add that life to them when your using the models/unit during a game.

No need to guess that this will be Cypher - Count as Chaos Lord with the Murder Sword (C'tan knife) & a Plasma Pistol.

 

I always been a fan of the Fallen Angels & there seen to be a few showing up recent - Dark Vengance CD for exsample.  Just I did try to make a unit of Fallen Angels earily last year, but was not to keen on how the unit turn out.  Since then, Games Workshop release some cool new kits for the Dark Angels - Ravewing Command squad & the Deathwing knights.  I already use some parts on the Cypher conversion & going to try get some parts from a few my friends that collect Dark Angels soon.

So I will have Cypher & looking that at least 9 Fallen Angels.  It just mean more models to add to the Iron Warriors & general give me more chose.  Also it will allow me to use them in allies in other armies, for exsample the Chaos Guard army I started back in June last year (shown in this topic), I will be going back to them in a few month time & getting the force finish so they can be use in bigger games with my IW or as a stand alone force.  Just overall mean more models & adding to the collection.

 

Beyound that I've added a few more ships to my fleet for Battlefleet Gothic & also one of my friends has sent me some spare chaos platic ships they had.  I will be aim on getting that least one class of each ship that can be made from the plastic range into my Fleet.  This way it just give me chose & to try out different list out.
 

So that it for now.  Hoping to get a update on Sunday but I've been really busy since the last update.  But I will be aim on getting some more photos of my Iron Warrior fleet for Battlefleet Gothic with the new ships added.  Also hopeful get some time to build the rest of my Breacher when they arrive or that least some Fallen Angels.

I have had that problem with Agrax Earthshade. What I ended up doing was dabbing a tiny amount of Nuln Oil (black) wash directly on the cloudy pools when they formed. I tried adding some Nuln Oil to the Agrax wash before using it, and this seemed to help. I also had some success using distilled water only when thinning the washes AND when cleaning the brush.

Thanks Ammonius.  It wired as I found a un-open Sepia I bought a while after the pot that went all funny.  So the newer one was ok & there was no problem.  Might just been a bad batch?  But I found re-wash over the area that had went a bit funny help a little as well as well as try the Nuln Oil you suggested

Cypher still a long way before he is fully painted.  I'm also looking into swap his Plasma Pistol, unsure if I will use the Chaplain one from the box game or if I will use the Plasma Pistol from the Space Marine Captain set, just something to show he is from the Heresy era.

I mange to get 2x of the Chaplain models during a recent wargaming event - Carronade in Falkirk which has a lot of bring & buys.

As said I've always like the background about the Fallen Angels.  The unit being made so it can be use in my Iron Warriors or when I re-start my Chaos Guard project, I can always add them in as Allies (sp?)

It been really good to get some games in of Battlefleet gothic.  Warhammer 40,000 is always my favrout game since 3rd ed - I just started the hobby when WFB 5th ed was release & 2nd ed 40k was slow fade/change to 3rd ed.  But I would say Battlefleet Gothic is my second favrout game.

 

Right now my aim to try have that least 2x of each class of ships that can be built from the plastic models.  Just I am not a fan of metal models, unless it say shoulder pads, but not things like the old Killer Kan kits.

 

I've also mange to get a few moment to add another Breacher Iron Warriors, so right now the unit only have 6 models.  But I'm going to aim tomorrow to try get the rest of the unit built & ready to paint next week

More Cultist.  I'm going to included another 20 Cultist unit.  As said the aim with these models is to use them as Cultist or Chaos Guards & being inspired by the Chaos Guards from the Space Marine computer game.

Also just due to a list I made recently & one of my friends wanting a game vs the list with there recent Eldar army.

Another Heldrake - The very first Heldrake (see photo below this comment) I bought back in Oct..... the chaos gods do not favour this model.  In over 30 games I use it, it never arrive until turn 4, which is getting a bit annoying now.  While I do have three Heldrakes in total, it mean adding to my army which has been the main thing for my Iron Warriors & the heldrake in my view a great kit to both built & paint.  Also ever now & then I do get bigger point games, I think I got a 6000pts game line up against Tau later this year where we are aim on using fully painted models.

I realise that this stage of your painting is not your finished paint job, but i really like the silver tones you use at this stage.

This was from the last ed of Games Workshop paints

 

 

 

 

How do you get such depth on your metallics?

I basicly

- Basecoat the model in boltgun metal
- Wash with Badab Black
- Wash in Purple (not sure what the GW purple wash is called)
- Wash with Badab Black again
- Dry Brush bolt gun metal with a big brush. For me I got the old GW Tank brush (red handly) which I had since start my IW force ten year ago
- Dry brush lightly with Mithrail (sp) Silvier

Then taken a GW large brush, highlight with Mithrail silvier. Make sure there a strip of Mithrial silvier across like say the arm. If you look that real metal you'll see the strip where the light is hitting off. In real life this will show on the models, but some how when take photos of the models it drown out the effect.

For Gold is

- Dwarf Bronze
- Badab Black
- Shinning Gold make sure to leave the shade of the above shown in area
- Devlin Mud Wash
- Purple Wash
- Highlight with Burish (sp?) Gold?

Then testing out the current paints to see if they'll match the now older paints I use on a spare Chaos Marine model.

Pretty happy how it turn out. Only thing is I needed to add two coat of Nule Oil on after words & then paint the highlight, where on the current models it was one coat of Badab Black & the highlight where done before this.

Thanks Prot - I will be painting my fourth soon.  Just bought the model today & also pick up the Warrior of Chaos monster (not sure the name, only Warhammer 40,000 & BFG gamer).  Just as said during the topic I like to have my units & models sub theme, bring life & background to each model.
Just need to try & see if I can get Reign of Fire movie to get some idea for this conversion.

Just as said wanted each unit to have Sub-theme & just though these where cool when they where preview in the White Dwarf.  Also found the chaos brass etching has help a lot.

Just undercoated the four Breacher Iron Warriors a few moment ago, so they will be ready for painting this week.  Also if personial life does not take to much time, I am hoping on building my unit of Cultist/Chaos Guards, try model them a bit diffrent for the Chaos Guard side of things to sub theme each units again & so Veterans units do not get mix up/confuse with say standard Guard platoons during games.
Again time permittings, would not mind having my new Heldrake ready for a game I have this Thursday that my wargaming club along with the Breacher unit.

As said before during the start of my Mk6 Iron Warriors force, one thing I wanted to try was blood splatter after seen how cool it look from the Space Marines computer game.  With the Breacher there is a bit more, but same time not trying to add ton of blood like I have for my Iron Warrior unit that is slow going down the path of Khorne.

So for the Autocannon, I like the idea as soon as they gotten though the breach/holding wall or trench it is going to be bitter close combat so they can secure a place for my force to attack.

I wanted this model to come across as though he just head-butted his oppent who maybe parry the chainsword attack.  During this topic I commented I not been keen on the Horn look to Chaos Marines & I went for the spike, always seen it as a extra weapon like the Urik Hai from Lord of the Ring had blade attach to there helmets during the seige of Helms Deep.

 

There still a lot to finish painting wise.  I still got to paint the units marking on the right shoulder pad along with the Chaos Runes.  Going to re-paint the eyes on the Iron Warriors - Autocannon & the one with the skull/comm on his backpack.  Also the trophies that have been added to this unit.

I will be getting the four new models painted this weekend.  I'll also be useing the unit in there first game later today against Orks that 1850pts.

Incredible looking unit, great work.

 

My only issue would be that the blood spatter seems too...regular? 4/5 marines in the front row all have blood in the same spots at the bottom left and top right parts of their shields, and all their shields are held at the same angle. It detracts from the overall effect of the unit. I am sure that it is just a model placement issue, with the grunts at the front.
