Transfer

For Christmas I have received the Assault on Black Reach set (Yay!) but I've already run into my first issue. I'm use to collecting Tau and haven't done Space Marines before (they're all so tiny). But anyway the issue is transfers.

Thanks to everyone that helped!

1. How do you actually apply transfers?

2. Is it possible to make custom ones on your own? I have my own chapter badges and don't want to go to some company to get this done.

3. if (question2 == true); what are the right size dimensions for a space marine shoulder pad + knee pad, dreadnought shin + shoulder, and terminator shoulder?

Thanks ahead of time.

Applying Transfers

1) Roughly cut out the transfer on the sheet with a hobby knife. DO NOT trim away the clear edges.

2) Place the transfer in a shallow cup of water for around 30-40 seconds.

3) Remove the transfer from the water.

4) Seperate the transfer from the wet backing paper. Be very careful as they are easy to tear.

5) Lay the transfer gently over the surface of the painted model. Apply additional water if it begins to set before you've aligned it properly.

6) Permit the transfer time to dry.

7) Paint over the exposed clear transfer edges. Complete your highlights.

Custom Decals

Yes, they are very possible. I believe there is a special paper you can order, but there are also guys like these: http://www.beldecal.com/custom_decals.cfm

EDIT: Corrected soaking time above

Hey Rafen_2,

Decal Paper. If you go to the site I listed they have some you may purchase to use at home. They also have some brief instructions on the site to help along. There should be plenty of others, and performing a search on any search engine should produce some helpful hits.

Unfortunately I don't have the dimensions for those parts.

Here's the tutorial I did on transfers. This is IMO the best method going.

The ones used here are homebrew, printed at 300dpi on a home inkjet printer. Sealed with 3 coats of Klear (a good gloss acrylic spray varnish such as Windsor and Newton) will also work. Seal once the printer ink is dry (give it an hour or so) in several light coats rather than one thick one -you don't want the varnish to re-dissolve the ink off the paper.

And here's a pic of what it looks like done:

All decals, no freehand.
