Rune Priest is finally complete and ready for paint.

I would have liked to have kept the storm bolter on his hip, but it left me with no room on the left leg for his tanto dagger. The tanto is an important tradition throughout the chapter, it ties them all together and leaving it off for aesthetic reasons just didn't seem right.

This project is fantastic, them scouts have really helped me on making my next sniper scouts more 'sniper-ish'

Also what plastic card do you use for the mark 8 neck guard?

Glad I can provide some inspiration

0.030" is the thickness plastic card I used. I've also used cut down SM shoulder pads in the past too, the curvature is almost exactly the same as the existing collar.

A lovely army. To tell you the truth, I'm a little bit disappointed that the pictures ran out, but it's great that you've gotten to a fieldable state. That's an awesome milestone to reach. I hope it inspires you to keep going, and keep inspiring us.

Thanks guys, It definitely feels good to have the first playable junk done. And don't worry, there is more to come, and more pictures with it.

Thanks for the links Arebennian, they've given me a few ideas...

A fantastic army. Great concept. Excellent choice in colours.

Only one (small) criticism: some of the models have strange "splayed out feet" poses -as if about to launch into the 40K version of Riverdance.

Nothing wrong with it, just seemed slightly odd, that's all.

However, I love your army.

Started work on another Rhino.

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg178/ulik0/20120503-DSC_0870.jpg

Scratch built some jerry can carriers, and a dozer blade, however I'll probably keep the blade for a tank in the future. Sitting on a Rhino it looks a little "heavy" for an APC.

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg178/ulik0/20120503-DSC_0860.jpg

Also built a pair of Razorback Assault Cannons and used a method I found on the interwebs somewhere to make the turrets interchangeable and moveable with magnets. Works a charm and keeps everything together, no more falling apart.

Fantastic Army here! Love the colors, very well balanced!

I do ask though, how do you achieve the dusted snow around the feet and vehicles? I would love to do this to my Wolves! Thanks :)

I love the subtle details, such as the antenna properly stowed forward for maneuvers. Where did you get all the ta-50 type/gear bags from? That's a detail often missed, I think. Long campaigns are always on the move, and call for lots of gear, even for astartes.

Thanks guys :Elite:

When I build another Storm Bolter I'll document it and do a mini tutorial.

The dusted snow is just dry brushing. I use a fairly wide, flat brush and drybrush in one direction vertically up. First with Space Wolves Grey, then Skull White over top. Vehicles are the same but with a bit more paint on the brush to get more streaks, like snow flying off the tracks.

Rhino is primed and really for painting.

Built another dozer blade last night. This one a little longer and thinner, trying to look a bit "sleeker" than the first. Ill probably stick with the original hedge cutter style blade tho, this one still doesnt seem to fit the role.

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg178/ulik0/20120504-DSC_0880.jpg

The gear bags and accessories are from AFV and Tamiya 1/35 scale tank kits bought on ebay, these ones specifically. The idea to use them came from NightHunters and others awesome tank work.

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg178/ulik0/20120504-DSC_0887.jpg

From those three boxes I now have this pile to work from! Should keep me going for awhile :Elite: Only thing I don't have is hand tools. Shovels, axes, etc.

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg178/ulik0/20120504-DSC_0885.jpg

I agree that details on tanks are overlooked. Often they look like they're fresh off the showroom floor. I wanted this army to look like they are constantly on the move while trying to reinstate their chapter's name and keep out of the way of the Inquisition. I also wanted to carry over some of that "screw the codex astartes, it might not be pretty but it works for us" Space Wolves attitude to my Sons.

I've been using photos of modern APC's as references to try and make mine look believable. Even well maintained modern military vehicles are loaded up and show signs of wear. Here are a few I've been looking at while building these Rhinos.

Thanks Subtle Discord, but I don't think my obsession even comes close to your! :tu:

lol define well-maintained! I've been both a tank mechanic and an infantryman (mechanized) and I have yet to see any vehicle as polished as vehicles I see used in wargaming (thought the last few years people have started adding ships and weathering techniques beyond that). I've driven and ridden in many that had paint flaking off and rust patina underneath, sometimes in rather large areas. There's barely enough time and money to (and personnel) keep a battalion above 90% combat effectiveness (and tbh I've only been in one unit that did that without fudging some numbers and cannibalizing from other vehicles) let alone keep them clean with a nice paint-job. From what I've seen if you paint them to any realistic standard it's always met with 'too much weathering'... Pretty much the only thing I ever tried to keep spotless clean was my weapons systems, both personal (m4) and vehicle (m2 or 240b) and that was a job by itself. Weathering should be a part of detailing, imo. It really sets a model apart.
