spartan249
Ok, my recent Myrmidon Squad idea gave me the impetus to create a Chapter that features the squad. The following is an outline of what I plan to include in the codex. Anyone with comments, ideas, and concerns are welcome to provide input. In fact, I'd relish it. Codex: Myrmidones Exemplar, Warriors of the Emperor FOC outline (Section Headers are links if complete. Click on them to go to the detailed post) HQs Achilles, the Warrior Exemplar Menesthius, the Spear of Ares Eudorus, the Sword of Athena Peisander, Shield of Hephaestus Phoenix, the Bow of Artemis Alcimedon, the Wings of Hermes Troops Hoplite Squad Peltast Squad Elites Myrmidon Terminator Squad Myrmidon Squad Ares Pattern Dreadnought Artemis Pattern Dreadnought Techmarine Fast Attack Aphract Squadron (Biker Squad. Imperitor Pelti, Sarissa) Cataphract Squadron (Land Speeder Squadron. Replace Assault Cannon option with Imperitor Cannon for 25 points) Agema Squad (Jump Pack equipped Peltast Squad) Heavy Support Land Raider Charon Pattern (Hull mounted TL Assault Cannon, two 2x TL Hbolter sponsons, 16 model Cap) Land Raider Phobos Pattern Predator Vindicator Whirlwind Archimedes Squad (Devie Squad equivalent. Can take Missile Launcher, Pilum pattern Autocannon, Heavy bolter, Imperitus Cannon) Dedicated Transport Rhino Razorback (modified weapon options) Drop Pod Armory Imperitor Xiphos: This Short Sword is used primarily for visceral close quarters combat. The extremely compact design of the blade allows the user to make quick, repeated attacks that retain their lethality with ease. This wargear counts as a Close Combat weapon that grants the equipped model +1 attack. Imperitor Sarissa: This large Spear is the mainstay weapon of the chapter, and is given to just about every marine in the Myrmidones Exemplar. The relatively simple steel haft houses a small power field generator that envelops the adamantium spear tip in a lethal haze of energy. While the weapon is very deadly at stand-off range in combat, these weapons prove to be rather cumbersome in close quarters combat, and no amount of training can fully mitigate this weakness. This weapon is a Power Lance (See 6th Ed Rulebook). Imperitor Aspis: This round combat shield sports a small Refractor Field Generator, which provides the relatively flimsy shield the protective ability to repel the devastatingly powerful weapons of the era. In addition to this, the shield incorporates a Bolter built-in to the shield to free the warrior's hands in combat. This wargear grants a 5+ Invulnerable Save in close combat and a 6+ Invulnerable Save against shooting attacks. Models equipped with an Imperitor Aspis may never claim the bonus attack for having two close combat weapons. Imperitor Pelti: This Oblong shield is considerably lighter and more maneuverable then the Aspis. While the shield incorporates the same Refractor Field Generator found in the larger Aspis, there is little room for much else, and the shield is much less useful in protecting the user from the ravages of ranged combat. This wargear grants a 5+ Invulnerable Save in close combat. Imperitus Makhaira: This Short Blade sports an inverted curvature that essentially shifts the balance of the blade from the handle to the edge of the blade. This leads to the weapon acting more like an Axe then a true Blade, and the results of attacks by skilled wielders of these weapons often show very clean cuts straight through any foe, Human or Xenos. The fact that this already formidable weapon sports a power field only adds insult to injury. This wargear is a Power Axe. Imperitus Xyston: This ornate Sarissa is a very individualized weapon, and often sports the personal heraldry of the wielder. These Spears are very often slightly shorter and lighter due to the use of Adamantium as the main material. This wargear counts as a Master-Crafted Imperitor Sarissa that adds 1 attack to the equipped model's profile. Imperitus Scutum: This specially modified Storm Shield incorporates equipment that allows the shield to act as a purpose-built weapon while still providing the user enhanced protection. The shield's energy field generator is significantly redesigned to be more compact and to consume less power to make room and spare energy to charge the capacitors installed in the shield. These capacitors power a secondary system that can be triggered to release a blast of kinetic energy from the shield with often violent results inflicted on the unfortunate victims that are caught in front of the shield. The Imperitus Scutum is a Power Maul that grants a 4+ Invulnerable Save. In addition, it grants the equipped model the Hammer of Wrath special rule. Imperitus Cannon: This snub-nose cannon is an experimental weapon that fires volleys of shaped-charge rounds to devastating effect. While it has not been sanctioned officially by the Adeptus Mechanicus, these weapons have been slowly gaining popularity among the more liberal minded battle brothers of the Adeptus Astartes who repeatedly engage in combat with Xenos filth of all types and descriptions. Imperitus Cannon Airburst Detonation 36" 4 6 Heavy 2, Blast, Ignores Cover Contact Detonation 36" 7 4 Heavy 2 Pilum Pattern Autocannon: This autocannon is chambered for the highly lethal Pilum shell. This shell trades mass and propellant for a leaner profile and a stronger armor-piercing tip on the round. This leads to a round that does not have the same punch as the standard autocannon round, but boasts superior armor penetration. Elric the Silvercoat
So the scout like squad are better skilled than the Tatical like squad? Its shows the Hoplite with WS and BS 3 and the Peltast with WS and BS 4. spartan249
You are entirely correct. Here's the reasoning behind that. Hoplites are the brand spanking new initiates to the chapter. Since the Hoplites are always in the thick of the battle and are always under direct command of a veteran, this would be the most logical place to start recruits out. Always under direct supervision with plenty of chances to prove themselves in combat for higher office and promotions. Peltasts are, by nature, acting alone on the flanks and are very often isolated from the rest of the force. Such forces need to be comprised of marines that have shown that they can weather the psychological toll of being outnumbered and unsupported along with an aptitude for lighter armor tactics, which require more finesse and coordination. Another bit. I am designing the Hoplites to be less like Tacticals and more like Crusaders without Righteous Zeal. I'm thinking for the fluff that the chapter will have a lot more marines then the nominal 1k dictated by the codex (explaining the large squad size), and that each battle group will have at least 500 Hoplites accompanied by vets, vehicles, irregular forces like Peltast Squads, command staff, and one of the SCs associated with them. This style of battle will very likely have accelerated attrition rates, hence the large number of recruits and the relative lack of skill due to the hurry associated with the training regime. Elric the Silvercoat
Ok I understand now. Just need alittle more background. So the Peltast Squads job is to delivery a Teleport Homer? spartan249
It very well could be. It can also be back line disruption and flank engagement. Whatever you can imagine.
