what brushes to use?

Either type of brush are fine. I'm still using some cheep brushes I picked up for $8 at an art supply store. There are some very good brushes you can pick up but if you're new to the hobby it's not worth spending the money yet. Once you've stuck with the hobby a while and have gotten some practice painting then I'd recommend going to pick up nicer brushes. When you've gotten practice a good brush to pick up would be a kolinski detail brush. Several brands make it, but they all are made the same way with the same material. They keep their points extremely well when you take care of them and they release paint in a very smooth flow. They're expensive for a single brush though.
