Some new DA specific rumours on Warseer

6) The Lion was not discovered until roughly 100 years into the Crusade (As one of the novels state - he was found halfway through it yet still had almost as many victories as Horus by the end)

One hundred and FIFTY years into the Great Crusade, right? At least that's what I got out of "Descent of Angels" and "Fallen Angels".

I certainly could have got it wrong (just going from memory). I thought they said halfway through the Crusade (the crusade being approx. 200 years). If it was a 150 years into the Crusade, that means the Lion claimed almost as many victories as Horus in 1/4 of the time. Quite a feet either way.

EDIT: The lexicanum entry for the Lion does note "Shortly after their entry into the Great Crusade... the Lion sent Luther...back to their home world.... Fifty years later... Luther and his lieutenants were faced by a widespread rebellion on Caliban." So I think this would more or less support what you said. Luther spent a handful of years crusading at the Lion's side, was sent back and spent 50 more years on Caliban, right about when the Heresy was going down.

Well it wouldn't hurt to imagine this:

All Dark Angels plasma weaponary ignores the "Gets Hot!" rule :P

That would just be toooo good. But I could see them working in an upgrade for certain units that may have that. Maybe Terminators ignore it all together, given their armor?

Andy Chambers wrote up Namaan after he had a scout sergeant do the unlikely feats when he and his mates played a home brew campaign that later got written up into the Piscina "Storm of Vengance" campaign pack.

I recall that - there was a pond in the back of the house or something hence the name "Pishina"! :P In any case I sure hope they re-introduce the campaing packs! Tons of fun and the opportunity to release real nice character models -not to mention exploring obscure corners of the background! That campaing pack alone was the inspiration of three Characters that found their way in two BL books (Angels of Darkness & Kadillus) not to mention the promotion of Belial to Master of the DW and subsequent appearence in the current (2007) Codex!

I never got it why they don't periodically revive this line of products... Surely they'll be hugely profitable. Maybe it's lack of resources, or maybe it's the Imperial Armour books that are filling in that slot - who knows...

The only real change I want is an official color scheme change on the red bolter casings! Then I will truly be happy. :P

Mine are officially painted black....

It amuses me to no end that, as we head into 6th edition, people insist that DA plasmarifficity is invalid because it's only existed since 3rd edition...I forsee that continuing forever... "I want the 34th edition 'Dex to go back to the 2nd edition status of DA not having any special affinity for the use of plasma weaponry" :P

Anyway, I don't see how the plasma theme could be refreshed in infantry (not especially excited about plasma tanks), short of maybe a "gets hot" reroll? Combi-plasma for sergeants doesn't really do it...

I really should make mine black as well. I would just like GW to recognize that Green and Red shouldn't really go together except during Christmas!

As far as what's really coming in the codex I'll be happy to wait and see. Truth be told I'm not completely unhappy with the current one but some tweeks and new units would be a welcomed edition. I guess my biggest want would be a flier of some sort.

Hmmm... A couple of those OTT plasmariffic suggestions have merit. I'd love to see a DA-only terminator plasma cannon. Especially if my wish of a heavy support deathwing squad (two heavy weapons, no claws or hammers, except maybe on the sergeant) comes true.

I don't know about a plasma cannon attack bike, but what about an attack bike with two (not one twinlinked, but two, there's precedent) plasma guns in the side car?

Oh, and a plasma gun in lieu of a heavy flamer or stormbolter on a dreddy? Pure gold. I don't know why that's not an option already...for everyone. I'm not even sure it should cost more than the heavy flamer. Well, maybe ten points, since it doesn't get hot.

or maybe it's the Imperial Armour books that are filling in that slot - who knows...

This

And Cityfight, Apocalypse and Planetstrike.

I painted one squad with red bolters, noticed that all the bolters on the 3rd ed codex cover were black and did the rest like that because red looked crap. (back in the day before I learned how to paint red..)

noticed that all the bolters on the 3rd ed codex cover were black

Really? I don't remember...maybe that's what inspired me to do them black in the first place, seeing how much better they looked on the cover than in the galleries inside, since 3rd is when I started?

Are you sure I thought they where silver in 3rd.

i dunno. i kinda like the idea of the "dark fist".

So long as Death Guard dreads get "Stink Fist!"

+1 internets for the TOOL reference

YUP, Black casings in 3rd. look at the back cover.

s

Both of the 3rd edition DA codices, 1st and 2nd, had silver bolters and a gold plasma pistol on the front. The 1st DA 3rd ed codex showed painted models with red weapons on the back cover and the 2nd DA 3rd ed codex (the updated one that clarified and fixed some things but not all things like it really should have,) had a battle scene where the DA army had black weapons on the back.
There is a Combat Squad of guys with what appear to be black weapon bodies in the 3rd Ed Codex in the 'Eavy Metal Showcase, Azrael is depicted with a dark/gunmetal grey weapon and the Brother Bethor model appears to have a black weapon as well. Also, the Tactical Marine and Devastator Marine on the page opposite "How to Paint Dark Angels" both appear to bear black bodied weapons (the plasma cannon no less!). In the 4th Ed Codex, the Marine depicted wearing robes in the "Dark Angels Robes" inset box bears a black bodied bolter. The rest of the Marines all appear to have bright or dark red weapon bodies (or green for the Deathwing and black for Ravenwing). Oddly enough, the 4th Ed Codex depicts the Chaplains as using black bodied weapons, and yet the bodies of all their weapons throughout the Codex are painted red.

Hey, look who's back! Good to seeya Bryan after a 2-month hiatus!

The 4th Codex has a strong bias to red casings... I personally like the more sombre black but it's all down to personal taste! However I don't mind red casings for the DW - they look cool(er).

Heh...nope, I was doing black casings before the second third edition codex, so that's not it. I guess great minds just think alike, then! As for DW...well, to tie them in with the rest of the army, I'm always looking for stuff to paint green...like stormbolters!

In the 3rd (either version of the 3rd ed.) they did show more of a mix between red and black over all but the DW was mostly Green then and RW was mix of red and black but more red.. In the forth ed DA codex, majority is red but there are others, Azreal and the Techmarine and his servitors. Some RW have red (all the bike types,) some black (Landspeeders.) DW are all represented with red. I like the gold for the DoC Termie. I think red is the normal shown as it contrasts the most with the Dark Green and the Black color scheme of the models. but I think it also is suppose to have bearing on which company it is....I can't remember exactly...... I do like the black more also and the gold has some intrigue.... This is all for the painted models though.

Now to be more on topic

I like the idea of a group purchase of Chaps as elite that can join squad

Off of it things that would be cool if they added....

I would like a real RW command squad that's jetbikes to be with Sammael as an upgrade with some nice weapon upgrade choices in addition to Attack (jet)bike, Apothecary and standard bearer.

Either some more expanded special Deathwing units like others have said as a Heavy Support choice that has several more models available to take a HF, AC, CML and maybe a new added weapon like a PC (I mean the suits were made to withstand the Plasma engines right? Make those with TDA immune to Gets hot rule and add a little to the cost of the weapon upgrade to show for it or something like that,) or having the option to have a full 10 man DW squad that can combat squad with up to 2 special weapon choices.

A real Mortis for us with the ability to dual ML, AC, TlLC, TlHB, maybe even a TlAutoC. You know an all out Mortis that only we have those weapon choices for the Full Mortis.

Yes, more plasma options with squads and Plasma options on tanks. I have always been a fan of Plasma since I started collecting and playing at the end of 2nd ed. and I still use them today. I love shooting PCs at a tank so I can see if it scatters so I can hit the squad of models behind it I can't see. ^_^ It does work out well for me more often than one would think.

Maybe the old school Combi weapons like another said that had use as either or both with a negative to hit or something like that (for the old and ancient tech aspect of what we are supposedly to be bearing...)

Bringing more things in line with other SM codices. I mean our tanks and Pods could use some sprucing up. Our pods cost more and are less effective. And come on, our techies can maintain Jetbikes but don't know how to put a Las/Plas or TlAC on a Razorback? A MotF for us. I want me a Conversion Beamer going around on a bike! Our Termies that have relentless.....

Maybe even a section with a Fallen list.... That would be kinda neat IMO.

There are many things I would like for us to have but I will just have to wait and see what our new codex holds for us when it finally arrives. Also I hope to the, Almighty, that we don't get a Chapter Approved crap like SoB got shafted with. Don't get me wrong any of you SoB players. There are some neat things but it appears to me that you still got the raw end of the deal there....

I don't know about a plasma cannon attack bike, but what about an attack bike with two (not one twinlinked, but two, there's precedent) plasma guns in the side car?

Or how about letting attack bikes swap out their twin bolters for twin plasma's? While the bolters have great synergy wiht the Heavy Bolter, the Plasma guns would have great synergy with the MultiMelta's. Could make it for Attack Bike Squads only as a Heavy Support Choice.

Another point that might be possible to look at now that we have some information would be new plastic kits. If they plan on giving us the Mortis Dreadnought, would it be possible for us to get our own plastic dreadnought kit? BA have their own, SW get Bjorn, SM get Ironclad, seems like we should have our own box as well.

And if we are rumored to have squads of chaplains running around just like sanguinary priests, maybe we could be getting some new robed chaplains as well? I hope I'm not derailing the topic, just wondering what other people think.
