A tale of 17 gamers

Recommended Posts

I prefer the idea suggested by CMID. We should keep this small group but there's nothing to stop someone else from creating another tale of 17 gamers. Perhaps a different campaign would be good and would give some variety between the 2 projects such as the 3rd War for Armageddon, the Astartes Praeses, the 13th Black Crusade or the Horus Heresy or anything else with a wide range of power-armoured armies.

I couldn't wait to get started on the project so I bashed together my first Fire Angel. This is my take on Tarnus Vale, Praetor of the 3rd company.

Not the best pictures...

I'm not too sure about the head at the moment. I tried a different one but I thought it looked a bit big. Usually I give my sergeants/HQs bare heads because it just looks so much cooler and painting faces is my absolute favourite. I've gone with the helmeted head simply to save time which is at a premium at the moment.

A shot from the back showing off the fur pelt and Death Watch shoulder pad. I think I'll probably paint the fur as a leopard pelt.

The chapter symbol is still WIP.

I hope you all like him. Hopefully I'll get another marine assembled some time soon. I think I'll probably go with a Sternguard body guard.

I can't wait to see what everyone else comes up with

Liking Tarnus, alota cool looking parts on him. I enjoy seeing chainswords too more than power weapons for some reason, Im always tempted to make a captain with a sheathed chainsword using his boltgun in both arms for a change, though no idea how I'd go across with the chainsword.

Few questions about Tiger claws too;

What would their strength of been while hiding amongst the astral claws? Saying they went in as one company?

When the Loyalists discovered the fact that Tiger claws had been hiding as part of the astral claws, did the secessionists ever end up knowing that the loyalists knew?

Would they of actually somehow started wearing their own colours at some stage of the war? This is a part im doubting.

*edit* Company not chapter

I started working on my Mantis Warriors last night. I am doing a five man Mantis Religiosa unit. I will be using the Blood Angel rules to do the Mantis Warriors because the Death Company would be perfect to show what the Mantis Religiosa are.

Also will be useing the old rogue trader chapter symbol show in this picture.

I like it alittle better than the one we have now.

I also plan to use red for the face over yellow to show the Rage that the Mantis Religiosa have and I will also use alittle more black on them showing they are damned in a way to always be fighting.

*edit* Company not chapter

#1. Sadly, not a bunch is known about their history, man. They were born of Astral Claw gene-seed, and there's rumour that they were a Cursed Founding chapter. A single company of them survived a crappy warp translation, and their petition to Terra to rebuild died when their only Captain disappeared shortly after the petition was made. Huron, being the charismtic psycho he is, talked them into being absorbed into the Astrals.

#2. Yep. Mainly cuz the loyalists were ticked off.

#3. Towards the end of the war? I wouldn't doubt it. They were a proud bunch, and as the noose tightened around Badab, I could see some of the survivors saying, 'hell with it, let's give the loyalists something to choke on'. I'd say, though, that they would have abandoned their old Chapter heraldry, and wore the Tyrant's symbol instead, since they were loyal to the grave to Lugft.

Plus, the colors are cool....

Oooh I'll show you my hoard if you're all lucky. Hopefully if my 5 basic Novamarines go well, then I'll paint some more of them and then maybe my entire army will be Novamarines. I really love their background, xenos hating, space crusading, Angels of Death. I've seen them done in blue and bone colour and on Lexicanum (pinch of salt I know) that is what their colours are listed as, however in Badad Part 1 they look more blue and white/silver, so that is what I'll go for.

Ave Imperator!

Righteo, cheers for the response. I probably will just paint them in that scheme, and just use the tyrants symbol as I find it more appealing too. Got my captain made, just need to wait to monday to order some new stuff since I boggled up my order attempt and messed up the card for a few days, fun times.

Ill try to get a picture up of him undercoated maybe later on.

Well done to kizzdougs for being the first to post a work in progress picture. It gives me a sense of urgency which I definitely need! I may also give my models helmeted heads as it’s so much quicker and I really struggle painting believable skin tones. I like your green stuff work on the shoulder pad too. Working with green stuff is another thing I struggle with!

I can’t believe how well this thread is going. I feel very motivated. I’m considering trying out true-scaling my Raptors for a change and adding plenty of small conversions such as wires coming out of the helmets and extra rivets to the armour. I also want to add yellow and black hazard stripes to the models to provide a strong contrast to the dull green armour. Most of the leg armour will be corroded and messy so my green stuff work on the true scale legs doesn’t need to be too precise. :P

Normally I enjoy the thought of having to paint yellow (did it on some howling griffons ages ago), but im baffled at the moment on how dark to make it for my tiger claws to match the grey, and then how I'd go across actually doing it. None of the yellow paints seem to match the actual forgeworld image sadly.
Current update: Test Marine Bob is undergoing constant repainting, and is finally settling down on one color after getting continually puffier from the sheer amount of paint. Meanwhile, I've been going through and transferring all the colorplate squads to an army list, and then I'll add some fluff based units in. I'm hoping to have the list done tonight, as well as poor little Bob. While I'm here, does anyone know a good way of doing Red Scorpion armor before I start painting everything in the current scheme I have?
Alright, much like the rest of you, I realized I had spare parts for a Rhino and Tac Squad lying around composed of pure bitz, so I've assembled those, and will start on them tomorrow after I get back from the 5k. Fortunately, the Scorpions have a good vehicle color scheme, and there's a Badab Rhino that I can base the heraldry off of.

Managed to assemble and paint up "Brother-Captain Keyaetus" of the 3rd. Finally got around to finding a way to do the tiger claws paint scheme, but might tryyy to attempt some free-hand on his cape, maybe something to do with those in the chapter declared warp-lost. Though id not chance it with a brush.

Ill try to put up an image or two of him tomorrow.

Well, I've done a fair bit of research into these guys and have come up with some concepts. I have ordered some parts to compliment the ideas, so hopefully they will arrive before the deadline.

If all goes well, I'll do a tactical squad. Going by etzchayim's idea, I'm going to model them off these pictures from the Badab War book II. Also planning on plenty of battle damage (to reflect their favoured method of warfare), and of course, gore.

So without further ado, here are the pics of which I'll base my squad off. I'm intending to mix the armour just as shown in the pictures.

Hopefully in a few weeks I can get some WIP shots. Till then, are we starting a collective WIP thread, or do we post here?

Till then, are we starting a collective WIP thread, or do we post here?

Well, so far our WIP progress has been posted here, but if that continues I forsee this thread being shunted over to the WIP subforum. Which might actually be a good thing... :)
