I Captain Uriel Ventris answer the challenge of the Unforgiven and vow to complete an additional Predator from Codex: Space Marine of total value of 185pts on or before August 15. Success will bring eternal glory to the Ferrum Lupus/Iron Wolves and failure will doom me to bear the sign of damnation for as long as I am on this site.

Predator,

Twin-linked lascannon

Lascannon side sponsons

Storm bolter

Hunter-killer missile

Total: 185pts.

I take it this is an addition to the initial vow? You sure you want to commit at this stage? You can always make a new vow once you complete your previous one. Just saying.

If you want to commit now, then update your initial oath (from which you need to delete the detailed points breakdown - [forum rules]) and drop me a PM to confirm.

Yeah, this is an addition. And yeah, I'm sure I want to commit. I'll have my tacs and assault marines done in a month and a bit at most and that still gives me another month and a bit to do a pred. So, why not.

Edit: Updated origional vow.

OK - table updated! Good luck mate!

So Brothers of the Liber, I know your thing is primarily background development but surely all these Chapters will need a bit more than the SM painter to come to life!!! Let's see if your fantastic ideas can take shape! Now is the time! :)

Here is my WIP thread for stuff I've done so far. It's not much, but it's a start.

WIP

The Company Champion maybe part of a COM squad I hope to get done as well, but it all depends on how much time I have, and if I can get the appropriate parts, so I won't add them to the Vow yet (I want my COM squad to be kitbashez or scratch built, so I'll have to see...)

“I, Aquilanus answer the challenge of the Unforgiven and vow to complete a Tactical Squad and one Land Speeder Typoon from Codex: Space Marines of total value of 180 pts on or before August 15. Success will bring eternal glory to the Steel Wings Chapter and the Liber Astartes and failure will doom me to bear the sign of damnation until the year-end”

I also hope to add more units to the tally, but as Captain Semper has stated, I won't make any additional vows until I know I can get them done! ;)

Go, Liber, Go! ;)

I knew I'd posted that wrong. I had meant to say (and Primus knows why I made the mistake) 2x five man Tactical squads and one Land Speeder Typhoon. Making that 270 pts.

Sorry - brain must have been in Neutral when I posted the above. If you could amend the table to reflect what I meant to have posted.....

Come on Liber, the Ultramarines have about twenty vows already. Surely we can do better then just three.....

I hope more take up the challenge, it would be good to see what other Liberites come up with ^_^ Vows are can be made up to JUNE 15th.

If even 5 others vow a Captain or Chapter master at 125pts each, we could really stand a chance ^_^

I have done the change for you but you need to edit your vow. Just to have everything in ine place.

UMs have 5 vows so far. But you guys sure need to pump up the vow count - you should be the most eager forum to showcase their ideas on your DIY chapters! So yeah, choose some point-rich units and join the fray. HQ are always good - or a humble tactical squad - which if you tool it up and give it a transport can yield significant points!

So c'mon Liberites, show to the boring ones how it's done!

You have to choose a faction. This is defined by the codex you are going to choose your units from. So if you choose C:SM then you can pledge for LA (or IA or UMs for that matter). No matter if the background story of your Chapter is one of fall to Chaos or if indeed you use Chaos minis. As long as the point costs all come from the same Codex and some WYSIWYG is observed then you can pledge for LA. Alternatively if you choose units from Chaos Codices (Chaos Marines or Demons) then you have to pledge for Chaos. So it's either-or. Can't play both sides. Your call. Could be tough one but this is intended! ;) :(

“I King Willy answer the challenge of the Unforgiven and vow to complete 5 man company command squad and 10 man tactical squad from Codex: Space Marines of total value 385 points on or before August 15. Success will bring eternal glory to The Everguard Chapter Of The Liber Astartes and failure will doom me to bear the sign of damnation until the year-end”

Hehe lets hope this will help me get some painting done.

E TENEBRAE LUX – 1st WEEK UPDATE

http://fortressofunforgiven.homestead.com/DA_Challenge_vs_LA.jpg

This is the first weekly update of the ETL Challenge. In this update (and the ones that will follow) I’ll try to compile the overall picture of the ETL and how it’s developing so all can have a quick understanding of the overall situation. So with no further ado and as at 16:00 GMT here’s the situation:

E TENEBRAE LUX – WEEK 1
Black Templars 18 6,451 358
Blood Angels 17 5,878 347
Dark Angels 27 12,020 445
Index Astartes 8 2,075 259
Liber Astartes 3 1,325 442
Space Wolves 12 7,225 602
Ultramarines 5 1,994 399
Chaos 16 4,281 268
Ordos Inquisition 5 1,203 241
Total 111 42,472 383
- - - -
Codex Space Marines 16 5,394 337

Some early comments:

The Dark Angels have the highest number of vows and the highest point-count with significant difference from the second (currently the Wolves). This raises the stakes for the competition. Obviously it’s completed points that will win the day but number of participants also carries significant weight to achieve that. So people need to flock to their favorite forums/Chapters and pledge vows – it’s still early on, everything can change!

The Wolves have highest points/vow ratio and currently they are second in total points pledged. That means that those committed have done so with big vows (in true Wolfish manner), which also entails big risks. It also means that if they maintain their average at 600 they’ll require another 8 participants to reach the pledged points of the DAs (assuming no more DAs submit vows – yeah right!)

Black Templars mean serious business. With fairly high points/vow ratio and some serious commitment they have managed a very respectable 3rd place for far. Look forward to see what else they have stored for us – one has to remember their strong performance in the LPC to realize they are a force to be reckoned with! Well done guys (so far :tu:).

Blood Angels are also strong in the game with the third largest amount of vows. However their points/vow ratio is lower than the Templars and it shows on the total point count. But here we have the Champions of two consecutive LPC’s and a Chapter known for its artistic inclination – so I think there are some Aces in their sleeves yet. What they basically lack is a couple of hefty vows (close or above the 1,000pts mark) to tip the balance.

Chaos is also putting up a fight with 16 participants but they also lack a couple of super vows (something close to 1,000 mark) to bring them at par with the other forums. As it happens is has lowest points/vow ratio among the big players.

Codex Space Marines forums are showing a significant lack of vows among them although from what I’ve seen there is no lack of talent. LA sports a fairly high points/vow ratio but with only 3 vows so far it can be misleading. On the other hand if all the C:SM forums were put together as one the picture would be much more competitive: 5,394pts and 16 vows between them – they are certainly not far from the other forums. Hmmmmmm… see where I’m going with this? ;)

Ordos Inquisiton has an aura of heroism about it. Only 5 vows but very brave to face the challenge of the other mega-forums! Kudos to you purest of soul! You make all of us proud!

Before I conclude this first update I need to make a special mention to the two participants that already completed their vows, namely ZAChos from Index Astartes and Yogi from the Chaos forum. Furthermore ZAChos renewed his vow making him the first participant to raise the stakes! Congrats to both of you guys [but ZAChos is still in the game – so be careful mate! ;)]

Good to have you aboard mate!

You say that only Codex units are allowed, and as I understand it Forgeworld is ok, but might you also allow Apocalypse specific units and community approved conversions for such expansions, like Fellblades or the Bellicose Hunter Killer pattern Stormraven for example?

And do conversions on regular minis add to the score?

For the sake of simplicity and keeping this as level as possible I decided against Apocalypse-only units. In the ETL rules it says that FW entries must be explicitly described that they can be used in the 40k context. So, for example, a Contemptor is fine, a T-Hawk transporter is not! You see this opens the Pandora box because then we have to allow formations, Spreahead or City Fight strategic assets... You have to draw the line somewhere... So unless in the FW publication it explicitly mentions the unit can e used in the 40k context they cannot be used. "count-as" is fine though - but the offiical entry (and hence point value) should be from the chosen Codex. In fact the whole Challenge is structured around the Codices.

As far as conversions go, no extra points per se, but you can use them to depict upgrades that are not obvious on the mini. Then you get the points for them. :)

Hope this clarifies it for you - if not drop me a PM and we can discuss this further.

Okay I may be interested in throwing my hat in but I got a couple of questions if you don't mind answering them.

1. I only have the Assault on Black Reach set, so is that okay?

2. Also I guess the point cost is just what it says in the book which I'm planning on doing a captain the tactical squads which is 270. Is that right?

3. How good does the painting level have to be? Quite honestly I'm not an ace at this and I do it a bit differently then everyone else (I use craft paints not model paints).

Thanks ahead of time!

That's what I'm here for! ;)

Of course it is OK!

270 seems fine if the Captain is with no upgrades. But since he carries a sword, feel free to add the points for a power weapon or if you want a relic blade! So that'll be a bit more (not allowed to give individual values - B&C rules). You work it out. :)

Make your best effort! This is not Golden Deamon. Try your best - that's all it takes! ;)

Look fwd for your vow

Thanks alot! I'm going for it now for the LIBER! Also I only have the books that come with the set so I only know the points they tell me.

So anyway...

“I Rafen_2 answer the challenge of the Unforgiven and vow to complete one Assault on Black Reach captain and one tactical squad of 10 members from Codex: Space Marines of total value 270 on or before August 15. In response to Rafen_2's vow, a chant, growing louder and louder. Two Words, repeated over and over.

"Go, Liber, go Liber!"

To right, everyone knows that the best are in the Liber. Only we have the brain power to create a chapter of our own.

"Go, Liber, go Liber!"

Here is the link to my WIP.

Avenging Angels

YAY I started a chant! There may be four of us, but at least we're the most creative!

There are five of us ;) Captain Uriel Ventris, King Willy, Yourself, Silver Phoenix and myself ^_^

Room for more of course (hint, hint!) ;)
