First vow for the From Rage To Salvation campaign. 10 RAS and 10 scouts.

I know that there's a scout too much. Bonus. :)

The 10 Assault marines might look complete but I'm changing my red for something more grim/dark/fleshtearers.

The left is the new colour.

Above is the to do list. The bottom ones are the right, new colour. Thank god black always is in fashion. :)

Hey friend. Thanks for the heads up. Rescues off eBay. Hoarded 100+ different models a few years ago. Two LPC's and two ETL's and only about 20 not redone by now. :)

I've got a lot of vintage through eBay. :)

Status update.

Jumpers are finished. I gave them the Mephiston red of my last painting project but the red on red proved too bright still. The previous project was red on black. Much darker and better. The repair treatment was a moderate dose of black wash. Much better result but I might go back and start over one day.

Here they are:

Second part of my vow is scouts. Status now is resprayed red (no more black currently:() then painted black to prepare for the right red end result.

Here they are so far.

And the 11/10 scouts are ready for deployment. It appears we lost 2-3 days of posting.

Not awesome work I admit. I've been itching to try painting a lamenter so there will be another vow shortly. It will be a small one as time is in short supply. :)

I,Taranis, proud son of the IX legion hereby vow to complete and present a Captain of the proud Lamenters before the 1st of December. I vow to bear the CARCERES IRA badge in my signature, should I fail to complete my pledge. May Sanguinius guide my paint brush.

Operation Lamenter proceeds. God I wish for a bit more steady hand.

I knew I probably would be pressed for time so only one model in second vow. Even with several days to go I'm happy with that decision. I'm actually getting a bit excited about the shoulder pad. So far so good. ....

Before you glue your should pad on, use a hobby knife to cut your lines. What this will do is give you a ridge, and it will help tremendously with stoping when you need to, and prevent the paint from spilling a bit. Start with the but end at the bottom of the shoulder pad and lean it forward towards the top. it will make strait lines. Do not try to draw with the point of your blade.

I could always try and do a tutorial if you are having a hard time.

Well I tried your approach but was reluctant to totally reboot. I gave up the scalpel route after a few attempts. I had a decent hobby knife as tool.

The result so far is this:

I think a few extra pointers as to your scalpel/checkers technique will be most appreciated....

Alright, I made my first attempt. I haven't done this in YEARS, so I thought it would be a good idea for you to see my failures and not just the final result, so you can see the progress in technique. I should be good after 4-5 attempts.

So what do we learn here? The lines running top to bottom need to start curving inward once you reach the point where the shoulder pad gets thinner. You can clearly see I did not do this with the two middle lines and it killed it.

I'll forage for more clean shoulderpads and do some more. (I have just about only DC/SG shoulders, shame on me!) I'll give you an update later today after my next attempt. Once I have it down, I'll do a Video.

I can see it working and having not glued it to the arm eases the marking process. It'll be weekend before I'll try again. Thanks for investing time to help. You're good at helping and inspiring. :tu:

I have good news and bad news. My GS4's video capture did not work well with my attempt at filming it (I do not have a cameraman handy XD) and it was just rubish. The good news is that I have a clean shoulderpad. All you have to do is file down the excess plastic if you gouge too deep.

It's all about using a good surface to support your knife, and cuting flat, not with the point. Slice into it slowly, and make sure you slowly start arcing towards the middle once you've cut 2/3s of the way. If you are using a shoulderpad that already has an icon in the middle it's easier since you don't have to make long strokes.

It could be worse . It's just one marine. It could have been 60 tacticals and 30 Devestators. LOL.

I deliberately chose a single marine in order to make it before the deadline.

All these lovely painting events are for fun and motivation. A board member og moderator takes the initiative and coordinates. Captain Semper ran the ETL I & ETL II. The annual LPC was run by Sigismund Himself. Captain Semper is currently running the Call of Chaos. We are currently in the final two weeks of the From Rage To Salvation.

If you can declare, paint and present a codex BA legal entry you can participate, complete and reap the reward.
