Tyrannicide
Awesome to see the Praetors of Orpheus! They look great, love the weathering. Now something that's a little bewildering.... I originally thought of naming my own dakka Predator the Wrath of Sejanus. Seems that belongs to the boys in blue and white now. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/255566-praetors-of-orpheus/page/2/#findComment-3120667 Share on other sites
Hyaenidae
Since you're both 2nd Founding, you could say that after a joint operation of both your Companies, a pair of tanks were commisioned after a mixed squad of both your Chapters (named 'Sejanus') died: seizing a hive gate, killed the ork warlord, slaughtered a chaos lord, or generally saved both companies, etc, etc. It'd be a cool tie in.... :cuss Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/255566-praetors-of-orpheus/page/2/#findComment-3120708 Share on other sites
Captain Hwarang
Your weathering just keeps getting better! Loving those rust streaks Loving those rust streaks Forgot to comment on these: the rust streaks were really believable! I feel like that's a majorly underused technique for weathering that would show up all over the place in real life. Nice job! Thanks y'all. They were in fact just a couple layers if gryphonne sepia painted directly over the drybrushed mud. These look great, just how I envisioned them from the original 5th edition Codex background. The Mars link was why I wanted to have my lot as successors of a UM 2nd Founding, as I wanted to use lots of old FW type kit. I am contemplating changing to Imperial Fists because for their usual inexplicable reasons GW have changed the chapter in the digital codex to just making them excessively codex rigid to the point of it being detrimental and there is no mention of Mars at all :( If I was you I'd just go with the original background or trying to rationalise both into one. Although extreme AdMec links and extreme codex adeherence will need some creativity. Based on your models I don't see that being a problem :) Thanks for the kind words Marius. It's very disheartening to know of the codex change you mentioned. This was the digital version you were talking about right? For those of you who may have missed it, Marius let me know that the ties between Praetors of Orpheus and adeptus mechanicus have been retconned out of GW lore. This was totally one of the reasons I chose them, but I think I can still make it work. If you want inspiration for names, wikipedia the praetorian guard. There is a list of know members or leaders or something.its if cool names there. What's your chapter by the way? 1000heathens has a great idea. This is an awesome idea, something I might be inspired to write a short fluff piece about if there is ever enough time. Would sejanus be the sergeant of the squad? From which chapter do you think he should be? Thanks again for looking everyone. verpine
These are looking really great. I would suggest putting some black or gold on the boltguns since they seem a bit plain right now. Tyrannicide
That's a pretty cool idea, heathens. I could totally see it working. Considering that the Praetors and Genesis Chapter (what I play) are both part of the Primogenitors it's even more feasible! I'm looking forward to seeing what you're capable of with Terminators, Hwarang. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/255566-praetors-of-orpheus/page/2/#findComment-3121331 Share on other sites
Captain Hwarang
These are looking really great. I would suggest putting some black or gold on the boltguns since they seem a bit plain right now. Yeah, this is a great idea. Honestly, it was shear laziness that I tried to write off as realism. I'll go back and paint the bolter casings black when I get a chance, probably over the weekend sometime. Thanks for pointing it out. Unfortunately, the Terminators suffer from the same problem, but alas. So I decided to go ahead and matte varnish these guys too, and I took some pre- and post- pics. Please let me know what y'all think of the difference, if you notice anyway. I'm not very happy with the matte varnish, honestly, but I figure I'm committed to it now that I have already used it on my predator. Also, for some reason the picture quality on the terminators is much worse than the other pictures. I've been using my phone (HTC Thunderbolt) all along, and have been happy with them so far. I ran them through irfanview for auto color correct and resizing, just as I've done with my others, but the photo quality still doesn't seem as good to me for some reason. Perhaps they are just shaped oddly and the light reflected differently. Anyway, on to the pre-matte varnish pics... Marius Perdo
Thanks for the kind words Marius. In fact it wasn't necessarily ties with AM that the Praetors had, it was that their "technological lore" was on par with the AM's. I guess I've got some fluff work to do in the future. Your welcome, they really do look great, exactly how I envisioned them from when I did my original "looking for a Primogenitor Dad" research :) Hopefully my musings help. I'm not sure about the green tinge...must just be the lighting. Or maybe the quickshade? See below. I don't really notice it though on the "live" models. Thanks for the kind words Marius. Hasn't been retconned out, just not mentioned in the update. Doesn't meant they still don't have strong ties to the AM. Touche. Thanks for making my slight conversions feel valid again! The white is just ceramite white with a wash and highlight. I used sepia and mud washses in small places for the grime. The blue is army painter crystal blue with highlights of citadel ice blue. What kind of wash if I may ask? Believe it or not the wash is actually Army Painter quickshade dark tone, but with a lot of work done afterward. The "highlight" I mentioned before was actually a mix of two things: varying pressures of drybrushing with the new dry white, and several layers of ceramite white and white scar. This is the first time I've given the quickshade a go, and it worked out better than I thought. In the long run though, it took far longer than if I had just used Tamiya smoke or nuln oil with a carefully aimed application into the recesses. There is A LOT of cleaning up to do after quickshading a model, unless you really are just trying to mass produce them. Hope that helps! Thanks again everybody. Land Raider Crusader, Counts-as Sicarius, and TL-lascannon razorback to come soon. -CH Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/255566-praetors-of-orpheus/page/2/#findComment-3122141 Share on other sites
Captain Hwarang
Hey y'all, this is my counts-as Sicarius Captain, made from one of the guys from the Masters of the Cahpter box, and Iron Hands' head, and some kind of plasma pistol from some random marine box (probably assault squad.) Really cool power weapon and plasma glows, and quite a colorful model that looks finished after the thorough weathering job. THanks man, I appreciate the compliments! Weathering him was a bit harder, because he has so much more detail than they regualr tac guys, but I'm happy enough with how he turned out. The captain looks great. Used the same mini and similar idea for mine, so I would say that  Thanks. It is a great sculpt, right? The masters of chapter box is probably one of my favorite sets from the entire space marine range, EXCEPT for those god awful heads. In my opinion, they all look great with helmeted heads though. Any pics of your captain floating around here? Very very nice! I remember when I was still trying to decide whether to play as the Iron Hands or the Praetors. I haven't checked out Gree's stuff yet, but I will will over the weekend. I agree that they're both very cool chapters. For me, it was the color scheme that decided it first, then they just happened to have cool fluff to go along with it. So much the better! Yeah, my Praetors are on extended campaign somewhere...muddy. Wanted to stop in after you visited one of my threads. All I can say is the models are beautiful. Well done and in great taste!!! I love the weathering and the gritty feel they emanate. I may have to follow in your footsteps and make my models with a bit of "work" showing on their plates. Again, awesome work! Cheers man. THanks for stopping by. Incidentally, the color scheme you've chosen for your Tigers lends itself very well to this type of weathering. Thanks again. Anyway, here's the next batch of pics: a Twin-linked lascannon razorback and a rifleman dread. These are probably the weakest pieces in my army. The rifleman dread had several, so the front plate detail was a bit obscured. And the razorback has a broken storm bolter and I forgot to glue the headlights on it. Um...yeah. But it was my first attempt at significant freehand, and am happy with that particular result. Note, these have not been matte varnished yet. Raining outside to can't spray them, and don't ant to use it out of a bottle because then it won't match the predator. Dosjetka
Your freehand on the Razorback hatches is very good.
