You're a winner to us, Kier - and I'm sure everyone agrees that's the most important thing

You make me feel like an elementary school kid who came last on sports day being consoled by his parents :D

But thank, guys :) up until a month before this GD I said I wasn't even going to enter, so I'm not going to say the same for next year. I will enter. Just got to pick something more impressive. Something that'll pop rather than hide!

Anyway, congratulations on your demon, GKTerminator. I hope you'll be able to make it next year too. :)

That's a good idea, the more fancy and special a model is the better it is viewed. This fact helped me win a very minor painting competition once as I entered my Techmarine who stood out from the more normal models with all his doodads and details :smile.:

Yes, I think that helped me last year with my Sternguard. Colourful, and some conversion/GS work too.

Anyway, Hugo also uploaded:

I'll try to upload more today or tomorrow.

Hope you feel better soon Kier, I've just defeated the forces of Nurgle myself! I'm really enjoying these pictures, they're stoking the flames of hobby - I started experimenting with new SoB colour schemes over the weekend :biggrin.:

Well...I'm less upset to have missed the opportunity to enter.  By the way, it was more than just a sinus infection.  I also had something ugly growing in my lungs!  I'm still getting over the unfortunate effects of powerful antibiotics on my digestive system, if-you-know-what-I-mean-and-I-think-you-do.  Of the four categories I'd have run in, I might have been able to pull a silver or bronze in WFB large model (I'd guarantee it if I had my Elspeth model, but it's in storage in the USA).  It seems clear that the level of participation in GD is far lower in Japan, but the quality of trophy-winning models is the same as in any other country.  So instead of being one of 300 participants to walk away with nothing, I'd only have been one of 30 to walk away with nothing...not really an improvement.

On the other hand...I did miss the opportunity to meet some really great people!

Glad to hear you're feeling (a bit) better, march10k. I'll get more photos up soon.

You said you'll be leaving Japan in a few months...? Any chance you'll be back for next year's GD? (If they have it. They staff couldn't say for sure.)

Sorry for the delay and I'll apologise in advance for the lack of good photos of WHFB stuff. It was rather low down in the display cabinets...I don't actually have a direct photo of the bronze winner for Fantasy Large (just one I clipped from the quick shot of all three I took simply to remember who won what). I'll post a link to the official photos as soon as they are out.

Anyway, Fantasy Large photos will come after...

BRONZE

Sadly I seem to have missed taking photos of this while it was in the display cabinet, so just have a cropped shot from the final lineup on a side table.

Those are FANTASTIC!  I might have been able to clip in for silver in WFB large mini (with the dragon, not with the wizardmobile that I would have had available to enter...this one is better than mine!) and maybe bronze in the WFB single mini.  The dynamic lighting in the skaven model probably would have bumped me out of silver with my sigmarite priest.  Oh, well.  I'm very pleased to see models winning gold and silver without enormous display plinths.  Seriously, those should be disallowed, you should have to enter it the way you would play it!!!  And to see a mundane spearman take gold?  Solid gold!!!

/edit/

Oh, I'll be in the USA next year...maybe the year after, I'll be back in time for GD

Edited by march10k

You're welcome, WarriorFish.

There's a couple more categories (LotR, Young Bloods, Armies on Parade...I think that's all), then the photos of the minis that didn't win anything. Some very nice minis in there.

I'll see about posting more tonight.

Oh, and march10k, GW Nakano said today on their FB page that from Nov they'll be starting some painting contests. If you're still around then, I'd love to see your work there :)

Lord Of The Rings
Now, there were only three entries in this category (that's three more than last year!), so everyone thought "Wow, guaranteed Demons for those three guys!"...but such was not to be.
The staff awarded only silver, for the following entry, and nothing for the other two. The following entry got silver rather than gold because the judges thought it needed a bit more on the base (a cavity on the other side of the base, which I couldn't get a photo of).

And that's another trophy Hugo of Ichiban Painting Studios picked up!

Young Blood

Only one entry this year - by a very polite young lad (whose dad won 40K single Silver with the Space Wolf terminator) - who paints a hell of a lot better than I could at that age!

Similar to with LotR, they gave him the silver demon and some advice as to why it wasn't quite good enough for gold.

I hope he and his father will be back next year.

Next up will be the Armies on Parade entries, then the GD entries that did not place.

At last I got around to editing the rest of the photos!
Here are the Armies on Parade entries. I think I remember who got 1st, 2nd and 3rd...

Only one photo of this entry as close up it was not very good. Decals were peeling off shoulderpads!

21 photos of models that didn't win in the GD, and then that's the lot.

Fingers crossed GW Japan has GD'14 planned...

Edited by Kierdale
  • 4 months later...

No word from GW Jpn about any Golden Demon 2014 :(

The first was, if I remember correctly, in August, the second one was on the Sept 23rd bank holiday...if they were going to have it the same day this year they would have announced it by now. I've heard the UK (other countries too?) are having Armies on Parade, but nothing mentioned here. I've asked the staff about both and was told 'we don't know yet, keep an eye on our Facebook pages'.

It may be that nothing is planned and that's why they're having more regular modelling/painting competitions in the two stores, and the 'Battlefield Plot' event as a small-scale Armies on Parade.
