Thanks for the compliment Firestorm! I have a personal goal for the call of chaos to finish 3 pledges, so I'm busting my ass over the holidays! I'm sure my painting output is about to drastically drop after that though as my wife and I are expecting our first baby on January 10!

I'm really trying to push it as I'd like to have this second pledge done in the next few days, so there will probably be at least one more December update tomorrow!

Call of Chaos V - December Update 7

Marathon paint day today! Started this guy last night after my last update, and while he's not quite finished I figured he was good enough for one final December update! Still need toe nails, skull on autocannons, and smokestacks finished as well as some minor touch ups:

So, with 15 days left in the call, I believe that the Dark Gods are compelling me to push it to the limit, therefore:

Gods of Chaos hear my call!

I Danny Cyanide hereby pledge my soul, my allegiance and that of my troops', to Chaos Eternal.

I swear to you that I will paint and present 1 Unit of 10 CSM, 1 unit of Havocs and 10 cultists of the Iron Warriors Legion, before January 18th, 2013.
I also promise to provide a project update, at least twice per month.

You can follow my progress here: My WIP Log

Here are the 10 CSM and 5 Havocs primed and ready to go:

Call of Chaos V - January Update 2

Well I managed to get quite a bit done on Vow number 3 during the forum upgrade, so here are some pictures:

I'll start off with the built and primed squad of cultists:

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m165/Danny_Cyanide/minis/FE81A09B-3922-4EC2-8994-1032B913091B-2683-000002D48B13A078.jpg

After I had painted them up to the level of the next picture, I realized that I had only been working on 9 guys, so I added number 10 in at this point:

Here is the current status of the 10 man CSM Squad:

And the Lascannon Havocs:

If I manage to get these 3 units done by the 18th, that will be 13 units completed for the Call, consisting of 1 walker and 73 infantry Models. So far it looks like my Son has decided to wait until I finish to be born, which I think is very considerate of him!

With the addition of Guard to the forum, I'll be working on expanding my Iron Warriors Army to include some big guns in the near future!

Thanks AngelsAbsolute, I had a lot of fun with the Call!

As promised, I've begun working on a Vendetta for my Iron Warriors Imperial Guard allies. I've begun experimenting with new techniques, looking for a more realistic look. First up, is Oil Paint weathering.

Here is the Vendetta with the main colours blocked in:

And here is the fist wing weathered with my first attempt at oil paint weathering!

Let me know what you think, and how I can do better!

So I've gone back and given it a bit of a rework, following Brother Lorien's advice in the IG forum. Like any good traitor, I had researched this process a bit before I began and did know to seal (gloss varnish) the vehicle before oils, so it was easy to go back and reign the weathering in a bit. Here's attempt number two:

Just letting everyone know that my log will likely take a bit of a break due to a new WIP that my wife and I have begun working on:

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m165/Danny_Cyanide/558284_10152467683315013_3683920_n_zps31325ee0.jpg

This is my Son, Wilde, who was born Jan 24! Like I said earlier he was very considerate and waited to arrive untill I had completed my Call of Chaos work, but it's his time for at least a little bit. I'll be around the boards, but likely no new WIP for a while!

Cheers guys!

Utterly outstanding paint jobs!  I love the gritty look you've given your troops, the weathering on the rank and file and the Vendetta ties your army together so well.

Your speed is awesome also.  Tho I can see your inspiration with the last picture ;)

One of the many neat things about kids is that when they get older they will play games with you and the Wife has to go along ( "Quality Time with the Children, Honey" ) :)

Congrats to you and your wife on your new arrival Danny - the only advice I can offer as a parent, as I always do, is to enjoy every moment with him as he'll grow up quicker than you'll believe! :)

Also, when they're that size, you should still find some time for painting when he naps - it's when he's bit bigger, mobile and inquisitive that you might find your painting output decreases as you have to hide your models and paints away from little fingers ;) :D

  • 1 month later...

Well the last 8 weeks have been an incredible experience, getting used to being a father, and learning all sorts of things!  My painting output has certainly taken a hit, but things have started to get to the point where I have some time to paint again.

I have 4 days left to complete my LPC pledge, and I fully intend to do my best.  I pledged 2 Vendettas, 10 IG Veterans and a Manticore...

So with 4 days left, here are the Vets and the first Vendetta, pretty much completed:

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m165/Danny_Cyanide/minis/LPC-1_zps4e1a9884.jpg

So in the next 4 days, I have to paint another Vendetta and a Manticore.  It's going to be tight, but I think I can pull it off!

I'll post better pics when they are all done!

Here is tonight's first update.

Vendetta number 2 is ready for weathering.  So far I'm on track for finishing on time!  If the next 2 days go as well as today I'll make it!

Thanks Arkhan! I would love to eventually do a nice display table for them all, but that would be a project for later! First I'd like to get at least a 1000 point playable army of each legion!

With 28 minutes to spare, I am done my LPC vow!

More pictures to follow tomorrow! Glad I didn't let the Guard forum down!
