Cretheus
Ok after ages trying to do a DIY, I read the Badab war books and well i settled o going about making my marines Executioners. I've been a bit of a lurker round these parts, odd post here and there but nothing spectacular. but i think i am finally settled becoming more comfortable with my conversion work and kit bashing, painting and such getting a few tips from certain residents on this forum. Now the reasons why i chose the Executioners............ They are Psychopaths! and we all love the odd psychopath as long as they aren't in your house, they are imperial fist successors and with BT being my first Imperial army i wanted to stay loyal to Dorn. and i loved the idea of them being lead by a chaplain in the badab war. On another note i also like the fact there isn't tons and tons of back ground about them giving me the ability to add my own flavour and fluff aspects. now i will admit my photo skills aren't amazing and really don't show off the actual painting but hopefully as time goes on on this project i will get better and possibly even build a light box! so i imagine most if not every one is getting a bit bored so without further ado.... My Take on Thulsa Kane himself. made almost entirely from astoroth, plasticard and also the face from a demon skull from the GK box. I am currently still painting the axe which i have taken off and replace by a more suitable hand carved axe soon as its all finished I will take some more photos http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q535/jasonfgc/thulsakane.jpg CC welcomed Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/257380-the-laughing-axemen/ Share on other sites

Midnightmare
My, my what a big axe you have Mr Kane!! Very gothic looking, great job on them all. As for axes, maybe use the FW chain axes for your assault marines, and the wolves have some nice frost axes ripe for converting. Midnightmare
@ Midnight Runner: Even did it on my Termi's Just for you! Pix or it never happened :P Assault squad looking aggressive, good stuff. When you paint the dude with the 'zerker head on his base, paint a big pool of blood coming from its neck so it looks like its just been severed - Executioner style! shiningstorm101
a great mix of kits, they look very vicious indeed. looking forward to seeing some paint on the assault marines Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/257380-the-laughing-axemen/#findComment-3136562 Share on other sites
EgoDraconumNigrorum
When you paint the dude with the 'zerker head on his base, paint a big pool of blood coming from its neck so it looks like its just been severed - Executioner style! I couldnt agree more with that statement :P I like the assault squad, looking good. If I had one criticism (well actually its not a criticism, just a personal preference) it would be to have all of your assault marines wielding axes/chain axes instead of having the powerfist and chainswords. - EgoDraconumNigrorum Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/257380-the-laughing-axemen/#findComment-3136690 Share on other sites

The Yak
MUST SEE MORE!!!!! Love your take on the executioners! The Kane conversion is a masterstroke. The regular marines look ace (you have captured the psycho vibe alright) and that first terminator looks cool in blue. Talking of blue thats a crackin shade you have used on the armour. Cretheus
There are two blue that i use the blue on the captain and termi: all these layers can be dry brushed and still get a good affect IMO Base: 2:1 mix macragge blue and vallejo german grey (equivilant would be the new eshin grey with a bit of black) First layer : same as ebove appart from increase the blue and and some codex/neutral grey, layering n until you get some depth Second Layer: shadow grey or what i use is a vallejo blue grey mixed with dark sea green wash: very thin black ligh drybrush of the second layer hightlight with shadow grey then pick out the very edeges with a mix of shadow grey and fortress grey. For the metallic blue base: 1:1:1 mix lead bealcher chaos black and macragge blue 1st layer: lead bealcher an macrrage blue wash black dry brush space wolves grey (VERY LIGHT) edge highlight grey blue with a metallic medium i tend to dry brush all my metals with a light colour for example all my silvers are dry brished white before high lighted with a fortress grey as it gives a nice dusty battered texture IMO Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/257380-the-laughing-axemen/#findComment-3167814 Share on other sites
Cretheus
Small update, have been working on the guard, but have recently found some love for the power armoured axemen again! have been working on the dark vengeance currently yting to convert a chaplain on a bikeas might makes right......right?but almost finished the librarian here is a sneak peekhttp://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q535/jasonfgc/2012-09-29155015.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/257380-the-laughing-axemen/#findComment-3190735 Share on other sites
Rogan
Two thumbs up, especially for Thulsa Kane! Ist his first name a reference to King Kull's preferred enemy, Thulsa Doom? Just thinking. Skull-faced and ferocious and stuff :) Also, I like your style of painting. The terminator is just bloody awesome! Midnightmare
You know I whole-heartedly approve <_< They look suitably brutal, especially the assault marines and the termie, and the libby turned out great (liking the axe, or at least the bits of it you have shown us) As for the dirty renegades, good job on the weathered style and the wet look blood, I hope Jake is paying you!
