Hey thanks a bunch for the comments!

@1000heathens My Sons of Malice are still back home. I think building armies might just not be my thing. And as for the aquilla helm!!! I apparently lied my butt off about making a tutorial but I can describe it:

First you shave a regular helm down to form a wedge with a vertical edge. Then, you attach two small, wing-shaped bits of plasticard to the wedge so they sweep backwards to either side of the helm. Then it's just a matter of sculpting the wings on there which is really not very difficult, just pressing a series of lines into the greenstuff. If you want to, you can join the two wings in the middle with an 'eagle body' which can be pretty much anything to be honest, and some heads. Boom. Hope that helps! :)

For those interested, I'm also working on a new character at the moment:

Comments and criticism welcome and encouraged (especially since he's not finished yet and can still change)!

So! Apparently that wasn't much to look at... Now I'm afraid to post here again, especially with Lorenzen's thread updating regularly!

But I'll give it a go anyway :p

This guy changed a lot while I was sculpting him, which usually makes for an uncohesive model at the end but I feel like I pulled it together in the end. The idea was initially a lamassu-inspired pirate king with all kinds of bling and a relaxed 'I-don't-give-a-hoot-just-get-me-the-loot' attitude, which I guess isn't too far from what I ended up with.

Presenting Prince Y'thaorr, Scourge of Gamgra, Pirate Lord of Kerkh Keep.

Probably an ex-Astral Claw, Y'thaorr has long since broken contact with his former master Huron when his lust for power became too great, and he now commands a significant pirate fleet from his stronghold on Kerkh. It is said he is drawn to the whispers of Slaneesh, but his true loyalties remain uncertain; when his blood is up in battle he roars the name of Khorne as he batters the enemy apart with his mace Gorragh; in the dark he makes twisted pacts with servants of Tzeentch in return for marvellous gifts and powers; and many a flagship has been left to rot in honour of the Lord of Decay and Pestilence.

Showing off his reptilian accessories...

As always, please, please C&C! :) No kidding, I'd really like to improve my GS-fu!

I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking at when it comes to his face and...beard?  The snake around his wrist is kinda crude but good for something so small.

The fine detail in other parts is superb.  The fingers of his gauntlet and the scales on the shoulder snake cloak thingy are excellent.  And the fellign for the calf armor is simple but effective.

I can't quite tell what you're going for with the twirly mace shaft.

It's a weird combination of work, but that might be because he's a WIP.  Again, some spots are excellent while others are kind of crude or hard to make out- specifically the head, beard, chest and belt.  Well, the belt isn't so bad, just a bit plain and seemingly not fully connected to the torso.

FEEDBACK! So good, but so scary...

Thank you very much though, it's good to get a fresh point of view on my work. Couple of responses:

The beard, I agree, I wasn't 100% sure about it, but my friend thought it looked good so I let it go to my head and accepted it :p as for the face, it's kind of supposed to be dark/hidden beneath his aviator cap/headwear so I left it unsculpted. Do you think it looks unfinished now? Would a nose make it better? lol. I'm also a bit annoyed with the beard for covering up the chest, which was sculpted to look kinda like the guy on the right's armour, but most of the straps are covered up:

The snake - do you have any suggestions on how to improve it? What makes it look crude now?

What do you mean about the twirly mace shaft ? It doesn't fit the rest of the model?

What do y'all think? Sell-able? smile.gif

As fantastic conversions as they are, I don't think you can sell them because you are using GW parts as a base. Completely original sculpts are sell-able, though, if marketed correctly.

The head- I was thinking that it was some kind of leather skull cap or something?  A nose would help, yeah, though I think as far as concealing hoods go, there is a limit, a line that once crossed turns a hood into a bag over the head.  If that is indeed what it is supposed to be, I would raise it up until it just covers the eyes, to let the nose and mouth show.

The armor- yeah, with the beard covering it, it kinda just looks meh.  I got the impression it was supposed to resemble ribs, not straps of lamellar.

The snake- scales would go a long way, like they did for the snake/cloak thing.  The head is sort of..hm.  The fangs don't meet the mouth well.  The eyes are just pits rather than eyes, and the two pits behind either eye are...there to make it look more alieny?  Snake heads are an awkward shape, very subtle but distinct.  At any rate, if one thing were to be fixed, I would say it should be the fangs.  As is, they're growing out the front of its face, when they should actually be behind the 'lip.'  The tongue is awesome though ;)

The mace looked really bent in the first pic (second from the top, actually).  At different angles it looks fine.  Just sort of..hm.  I don't think of whispy and ornate when I think of maces.  I think of a club with some decoration, while this looks like the inverse. But that's a choice of style more than anything, I suppose :)
