PtR - An eclectic mix from Cactus' collection

Emperors immortals is right, the tartaros pattern terminators are being painted as Consecrators. If you click the E Tenebrae Lux banner in my sig it will take you to my Consecrators contemptor dreadnought, and I have a Mk I land raider in the painting queue for the terminators to ride in.

Artemid, I used the arms that come with the cataphractii set. The right hands go on with no trouble but the left hands are a bit awkward. Luckily the same storm shield that makes them hard to fit also hides the cludge of putty the fills the gap in the wrist!

The tartaros models are nearly finished, and the Deathwing Knights just need the crux terminatus adding then they'll be ready for paint. Expect photo updates later this week!

As for you Crusader Weber, Cell 42 is just down there on the left. wink.png

I'm a traditionalist so they'll go on the left shoulder. I honestly hadn't thought about the crux until I was sorting through my bitz box for decorations and I found the little ones that come with the generic terminators. I reckon that I can shave the backs down a bit with a curved file and they'll fit just right.

Gentlemen, I need your opinions please. The knight on the left has a crux terminatus, the knight on the right does not. Which should I go with?

While I'm not of the opinion it's strictly speaking necessary, that looks a lot better than I thought I would. I might make it flatter though. Is there anything else you could balance the right shoulder with?

IMHO it would work best if it wasn't so thick... it kind of contrasts too much with the FW fine details.

Agreed.

Perhaps you could thin it down a little bit with some fine grit sandpaper or a file? It should probably conform to the curve of the armor as well, which would also probably be easier to do if it wasn't so thick.

Personally, overall you could just do without it. I'm not sure it adds a lot to the model.

Wraithwing, the Deathwing Knights are for my M41 army.

Artemid, although I agree that the crux isn't necessary as these suits would have been constructed before it was adopted, I imagine they would have been retro-fitted. Traditionally the crux terminatus on a terminator's shoulder was made with stone from the chapter's home world. This has particular significance for the Dark Angels and, considering the role of the Deathwing Knights, it would feel wrong for them to be the only terminators in my army without a piece of Caliban on their shoulders.

Lucifer and Bryan, I had already shaped the piece with a curved file before taking the photos above but you were absolutely right that it needed more work.

Stobz, Hulk SMASH!!!

Thank you for your input. Tomorrow they get undercoated. smile.png

Yeah, those thinned out ones look way better. :)

I'd be really tempted to take one of the DA sword-wings pieces from the Ravenwing sprue and thin that down and put it on the opposite shoulder, tbh.

Sorry Bryan, I've had to order some more skeleton bone so painting the Deathwing Knights is on hold for now.

The good news is that I've finished January's vow for my Path to Redemption and have some time to work on October's unfinished models.

Thank you Bryan for inspiring the devotional text. This was also my first proper attempt at crackly lightning on power weapons. I think it turned out alright.

  • 4 months later...

Upholding the First Legion's fine tradition of arriving just too late to influence the outcome, I've now finished and photographed my Deathwing Knights.

Two group shots, one enhanced automagically with Photobucket and one natural.

Knights (I feel that they should have individual names now. I'll work on that.)

Finally a shot of all the previous completed vows.

Now then, I have some tanks for the ETL II somewhere...

I blundered and sent the land raider the wrong way and had to double back, then blundered again and accepted the wraithlord's challenge, but for the short period the knights were in play they were impressively tough, weathering all the shuriken and starcannon fire.

What I learned today:

1. Land raiders are transports first and second, and gun platforms third. Don't get any clever ideas until after the payload has been delivered.

2. Don't accept a challenge from a monstrous creature when it's the rest of your squad that can do the damage.

3. Even if you've got the drop on them by outflanking, Dark Reapers are not a good target for Black Knights.
