Best allies

So what have people been using as allies and what do people think are good matches for the sisters??

I'm tempted with using grey knights means I get my assassin back in my army and 5 termies is better than 10 sisters any day! HQ wise coteaz is a bargain at 100 points just to try and get first turn plus a henchman warband could bring some much needed long range fire!!

Sounds like you'd rather being playing Grey Knights.

I've been playing around with fielding a couple of Elysian veteran squads and a Vulture. The Elysians drop in in the second to third turn and toss a demo charge and a couple of krak grenades (auxiliary grenade launchers for the win!) down where it hurts, then consolidate to hold backfield objectives or terrain if they live. Generally take a Lord Commissar for the HQ to support the Conclave or Dominions.

lol, difference is, I'm not putting the guard in instead of something else because it's "obvious".

I can't take Marbo, but I did run an amusing allied contingent with my Sisters that was 1 Commissar, 1 bare Platoon Command, 2 melta-equipped Infantry Squads, and 3 Demo Charge-equipped special weapon squads. What's better than 2 demo charges?

9 demo charges, deep striking! Mwahahaa!!

I don't miss the Inquisition units, since I stopped playing them as soon as I had enough Sisters models to make an army without them. I just didn't find them useful. Occasionally amusing, and sometimes insanely lucky (10 Inquisitorial Stormtroopers taking a charge from 10 Lesser Daemons and butchering them, for example!), but always the Sisters did better. I wouldn't consider regular guard - I don't think autocannons or lascannons are really necessary since they don't work with out normal range. Lascannons have to be in that awkward place on the mid-row, while autocannons don't bring anything Exorcists can't provide.

It depends on what you want to add to the list.

Either Farseer with minimal amount of allied troops can give a useful anti-psyker boost.

Imperial Guard or Necrons if you want their flyers.

Grey Knights ... Coteaz with henchmen manning the quad-gun is effective. Or use Thawn for the ultimate "It Will Not Die" cheese list :HQ:

Tau can give you some long range shooting support.

If you want to stay fluffy, I would say stick with Imperial Guard or, in a pinch due to old fluff since retconned, a Grey Knight Inquisitor force.

i think guard would be nice for some high av and blast templates. i've done ok without them so far in my play tests, but something about a commissar, a bare troop choice, and a squadron of 3 leman russ tanks with battlecannons sounds really awesome. also they're battle brothers so it makes perfect sense, fluff wise.

i've also looked into ways to give my ladies some lascannons, as they distinctly lack anything over s8. but with so many boots on the ground, such a set towards heavy light mech, and melta available everywhere, i think that option is less appealing to me than the tanks.

if you want to not get butchered in close combat, some tac squads and a brother captain would be nice for some punchies. it would also give me an excuse to paint some imperial fists....

but again i lean to guard, better allies on the matrix, plus i run chaos so i can use that same contingent in my night lords list as traitor guard, so for me it's pretty obviously guard, just a matter of what to take...

  • 2 weeks later...
I've been waiting for the Dark Angels codex to come out for months, because I want to have a small force of scoring Terminators drop in and assist my Sisters. Has anyone done this with the older DA, or is anyone else contemplating this with the new DA too? Mostly I'm thinking SoB squads backed by two Exorcists and a Retributors squad with HB as a main force. Set up a gunline with the Sisters and use the teleporting TDA to hit the enemy rear (or priority targets). Sort of a hammer and anvil thing.

Indeed, like many I think Guard are a great complement to Sisters but to be fair you could easily argue the same thing for any Imperial army. It's nice and fluffy too.

I love the Fast Attack options for the Guard - not just because of more flames. That said if Sisters don't get an inferno cannon in our update then I'm going to be very sad. Like a sad panda, and nobody wants that.

Unfortunatelly, you can only have scoring Terminators with Grey Knight allies. Deathwing can't be made scoring in an allied detachment :(

If I use allies for my Sisters, it'll be Coteaz with some henchmen (3 heavy bolter servitors, 2 Jokaero gunsmiths) to man the quad gun on my bastion. "I've been expecting you" in a 24" bubble to keep my Exorcists safe® from podding/deep striking meltaguns, Retributors in the bastion so I can have 5 rending heavy bolters, and a Vindicare because I got the model painted up anyway from back when Witchhunters could still use them.

...Crud.

I went back and had a look at both the new DA and the CSM books, and the little blurbs do indeed make sure that FOC changing abilities are limited to Primary Detachments. This must be the new way of things.

I will still be going with the new DA codex for my Terminator-themed loyalists, though. I'll just add a Tac or Scout squad for allying in with Sisters.

I've never seen a sad panda. They mostly just look kinda apathetic...
Then pray that you never do - GW you know what must be done to avoid this great calamity befalling mankind tongue.png

I should add I liked the Inquisitorial elements as an option back in the day so the Guard do a good job as standing in for them. Especially since my Guard are an Inquisitor's personal army in their fluff smile.png Regarding Marines I've always used Sisters as the allied force (again, going back a bit) as I've never thought Marines really bring anything worthwhile to the Sisterhood.

I doubt that has changed in 6th but if anyone can attest otherwise I might give it a go.

Well, as I was discussing in another thread, a small allied Blood Angel force can really bring out our cityfight specialisation - a scout squad for objective camping, then a vindicator and a Flamestorm Bhaal Predator will have great synergy with our Dominions and building-sweeper units.

Can you tell me where this changed? I looked through the new codex last night but as far as I can tell, if you take Belial (or Ezekiel) you can take terminator squads as your allied troops. Did I miss something somewhere?

Because the rules say if he is in the primary detachment they may be taken as troops. As part of the allied detachment, that rule does not apply.
