DW Knights or DW command squad?

I plan to run a pair of Deathwing Command Squads, for a Banner of Fortitude and a Deathwing Banner overlapping on a full-sized Deathwing Terminator Squad with Belial and a Librarian attached.

It's pretty much a basket with all my eggs in it, but I love the mental image of twenty-odd Terminators stomping down the field, bearing ancient standards and laying low all comers.

I bought the Deathwing Assault Box set so 3XDW kits and there enough parts to sink a battle barge! You have enough pieces to build alot of Termies, but yes you do need legs/back plates. I have enough bits to customize alot of my pre codex termies!

Anyone know if the chaos back torsos fit? Have some laying around.'

Heresy I know lol

Edit: reason I ask is I can't find them, if they do I'll search the loft

Finally used the knights in a tournament, but I couldn't get a real test with them, as in the 1st game, they got blown up by everything (they Escorted a captain really well though, and allowed him to take out 2 Russ's yes.gif )

2nd game the knights locked into combat for 5 turns against fateweaver and a Deamon prince. They killed the fateweaver, but died to 3 other Daemon princes.

need more tests with them thumbsup.gif

Similar thing were discussed many times before, for example here:

Long story short - it's not clear whether you can do the upgrades in sequence (first heavy weapon, then apothecary upgrade), or not (purchasing heavy weapon and apothecary upgrade happening at the same time). You can make argument either way.

I think you can take them in sequence as long as it follows the sequence given. In this example, the Apoth upgrade happens before you can switch weapons so it's not okay. However, if they weapon upgrades were listed first, and then the character upgrade, I'd think that would be fine (for example, the process used to give a Scout Sergeant a BP & PP).

If you have to choose one or the other, take the DW Command Squad, because the DW Company Banner gives +1 Attack to any Inner Circle model within 6" of the bearer. That could be a lot of extra attacks when you get in the thick of it. Deathwing Company Banner = force multiplier, and you will need that for a small, elite force that is almost guaranteed to be outnumbered badly.

I was just about to post a new thread about deathwing knights but seeing this page I suppose I can post here.

I was wondering about the role the knights would take with the normal deathwing being there. But with the limited rules I've seen in white dwarf I'm guessing their character/special unit killers. 1+ toughness when theyr packed up together and smite once a game to make the get the job done.

Deathwing command squad I would assume are a an all rounder.

I would say the Knights are our Heavy Infantry Shock Troopers. I played a game yesterday where they held up about half of my opponents army for 3 turns. Now I lost this assault because of that stupid Khorne Axe, but they tar pitted them fairly well. And because of that I have decided never to leave home without them :D

And while I haven't played with the command squad this edition (though I now have a list kicking around in my head using them) they are, in my mind at least, pretty much the same as a regular Terminator Squad. A jack of all trade Heavy Infantry squad, that specializes a little bit what with the Champion/banner bearer and all. I don't mention the apothecary because he is dead to me, the fact he loses a melee weapon really kind of irks me :(
