The Chimera is done :)

The Russ needs one more day for decals and weathering so it will be ready Monday night.

Bowing to popular demand, the magnetised Hellhound/Devil Dog/Bane Wolf is next and I may try to build all 3 at the same time to get a bit of a production line going.

I got home today and this was waiting for me - Christmas has come early this year :)

Before the Chimera photos, here is the WIP on the next Leman Russ Battle Tank. Basically just needs weathering and decals.

As I wrote earlier I plan to have this completed by Monday evening then I will start slapping Magnets into the 3 Hellhounds.

Here is the completed Chimera although I have seen a couple of places where it needs a little touch up and I will do that on Monday too.

It is always the same when you take photos, the close ups and sharp lighting show every error that you would not normally see on the table. It is a good self test of the paint job.

Don't hold your breath ;)

It may take a while. It averages 2 weeks a tank at the moment and more like 6 each for the two baneblades.

Add to that the infantry I still have to paint it could be well into 2015 before these are all done but I will take regular group photos as the force increases.

Must buy some more green spray soon :(

I will be adding them to the hammer of Cadia box and the other Wyvern I have. Should keep me busy for a while

I sense a challenge, er I mean arms race! :laugh.:

Spray? Who uses spray?!

(amazing Chimera too btw)

Thanks guys :)

How about an army shot now, and then one once they're all done? For comparison :)

I will do a collection shot next weekend then another one every couple of months so I can get more motivation.

Even though I seem to have the worlds longest painting queue at the moment I find myself thinking ahead to one of the areas I am lacking - Artillery.

I have always liked the iconic Basilisk but there are also some nice FW models out there although they may be a little on the expensive side.

Also the Basilisk seems to be being withdrawn from internet shops such as Element Games and Wayland Games and may only be sold via the GW website so the chances of discounted models are less. Of course this means that the FW models are not that much more relatively expensive than the GW model.

For example:

£31 for a GW Basilisk

£43.50 for a FW Vanaheim pattern Medusa

£41.00 for a FW Medusa

Also would I be correct in thinking that some of the FW models come with the complete plastic sprues along with the resin bits so if I ordered the Medusa I may get the Basilisk sprue too?

My question is "What would the members of the AM forum recommend to fill out the heavy guns role in the 711th?"

Assume that I would be going for three models.

Plus I must get some sentinels :smile.:

I'm not sure how it comes from FW as I've not bought those models, you could try contacting them to find out? The Medusa is nice but is more of a siege gun, if you want artillery then the Bassie is the quintessential Guard piece! However given that the Medusa is more or less a short barrelled Basilisk then a bit of pipe would be all you'd need to convert it into a Bassie..?

I have the Armageddon pattern Medusa. That came with only the Chimera-hull sprue, the rest was resin.

It's a beautiful kit with a lot of internal detail, and I think that with a bit of pipe you could make a barrel extension as WarriorFish suggested, to turn it into a Bassie as and when needed. Must try myself sometime.

At the moment I am split between the standard Medusa and the Vanaheim pattern. I don't really want to go down the fully armoured crew compartment.

The use of a barrel extension sounds like a good idea too :)

I think I will be staying with the guard variants but thanks for the link

I am shamed to report no painting has happened tonight ... I got distracted glueing the 3 Hellhounds together

It's still hobby work, and working on 3 Hellhounds - who could ever complain about that? :P I wish I could say I worked on the hobby every day. Before you say anything prattling on here on the B&C doesn't count

I manage about 5 x 2-3 hour periods a week so I can be quite productive when the mood hits me :)

and to prove this here is the state of the 3 Hellhounds/Devil Dogs/Bane Wolves.

I am hoping to have the base sprayed on the weekend then it will keep me busy next week.

That's a lot of time, no wonder you do so much! The new Hellhound kit is a great one made even better for how easy it is to make the weapons swappable. Can't wait to see them done, they'll cleanse entire flanks as a squadron of doom on the table top :D I've just created a list with a couple in no less :)

The second Leman Russ has been completed with time to spare allowing me to start thinking how to combine the Scion bits with Cadian bodies to make up some Kasrkin Elmo style but I have found I am missing a few upper arms from the hellguns so I may have to do some chopping of standard arms to get it all to fit.

I am a little stuck for equipment options. As Stormtroopers are no longer in the codex having been replaced by the Scions and not wanting to buy more of them to make up the required platoon I was thinking about making them into vets but then no hellguns. I have a melta, flamer, grenade launcher and volley gun to choose from and the ability to make a medic so I have no idea how to progress on these except they will all have sand berets a la SAS ;)

I have 2 to 3 weeks before I will be starting on them as I want to get the hellhounds done first and I am stripping paint from 3 WHF figures to use as priests (thanks Kierdale :))

Help from the Guard required . Ideas please :wacko.:

Without further ado here is the latest addition: Leman Russ "Amouricum Mortis"
