WarriorFish
Very nice lenses! I wish I could paint that well in the evening, I have to make do with menial work like bases :P I vote chocochip, it looks so good you should be taking every opportunity you have for it ;)
CoffeeGrunt
After the first evening of sponging paint onto the chassis this is where I am currently up to. first evening of sponging paint onto the chassis sponging paint onto the chassis Oh my God...why haven't I been doing this all this time?! Really loving how these Guard are coming along, El'mo! Your corpse Emperor would be pleased! If only a company did primer colours in Tau Light Ochre dashed with Runefang... walter h 1 Back to top
elmo
El'mo?? Who is this El'mo you speak of? It sounds like a xenos collaborator. I am Elmo9141, a loyal servant of the beloved Emperor! :P Seriously though.. sponging is the way to go for this sort of scheme and if you do not have an airbrush. It is fast and reasonably sparing with the paint and looks great. Remembervto keep any sponge that comes with your models ;)
Kierdale
Your lenses never fail to impress! As for the cloak I vote for a reversible one: choc-chip one side, the other....grey for night? Green?...?
elmo
On your suggestion, I went for chocochip but with dark red lining. The plan is that by tonight everything will be done less the weathering which will be done on Monday. I think I will upgrade my first chimera to the desert cam next week as it will only need the sponging so it should not take too long. Then start on the upgrade for the valkryie which should take me nicely up to the end of the month and that will mean a clear table ready for the start of the challenge/vow. elmo
You know when you think you have loads still to do and it will take a couple of days then in one night it all comes together.... well it did and the Paskinator is ready - Al weathered and decaled. Still no photos till tomorrow - I want to keep you waiting ;) Actually I want good photos and not just the phone ones so I will have to keep you in suspense till tomorrow night. WarriorFish
Haven't we already discussed the penalties for teasing pictures? I only have a phone camera, so that's why my pictures aren't great. It's completely nothing to do with a lack of interest or talent in photography...
elmo
I prefer to show my completed models in their full glory using my light box and a decent camera ;) It is not that my, or others phone cameras are poor, quite the opposite but my shaking hands along with poor lighting detract from the quality of the painting. Unfortunately I work away from home and can only get to my light box on weekends hence the delay :( Apologies for keeping you waiting but good things come to he who waits. :) 9 hours and counting.... elmo
Here is a question, as someone who obviously does not have enough tanks (can you ever ;)) is the Hammer of Cadia as good a deal as it looks? 205 quid retail for 271 quids worth of plastic? Or have I missed something as GW are not usually generous. Edited August 15, 2014 by Elmo9141
T0MMY
*cough* it's £164 at gifts for geeks.com! *cough* Loving your progress on the tanks - the paint scheme and techniques are awesome. WarriorFish 1 Back to top
WarriorFish
Yes, plus as T0MMY said you can save even more with an online retailer ;) It'll solve pretty much all of your tank shortage problems :) elmo 1 Back to top
elmo
Giving the Hammer of Cadia some serious thought... Any way back to the photos Here is the beast in bits http://th09.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/f/2014/227/4/3/leman_russ___which_one_do_you_want___by_elmo9141-d7v9ss1.jpg And here they are as per the AM codex, Pages 46 & 47 Leman Russ Battle Tank http://th04.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/f/2014/227/6/e/leman_russ_battle_tank_by_elmo9141-d7v9scf.jpg Leman Russ Exterminator http://th00.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/f/2014/227/6/5/leman_russ_exterminator_by_elmo9141-d7v9spd.jpg Leman Russ Vanquisher http://th04.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/f/2014/227/a/3/leman_russ_vanquisher_by_elmo9141-d7v9shb.jpg Leman Russ Eradicator http://th06.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/f/2014/227/6/c/leman_russ_eradicator_by_elmo9141-d7v9sks.jpg Vash, 4CIN87, Kierdale and 2 others 5 Back to top
WarriorFish
Fine work Elmo, fine work indeed! The camo scheme is very striking with the weathering, especially on the tracks too. I'll be adding a Russ to my order this weekend and I will be referencing this topic when I build it Keep the great work coming, thanks to progress like this my hobby fuel tank is still brimming even after the ETL! elmo
Thank you Mr Fish sir :) The best thing is it was all very simple sponge work.
Prot
Very nice camo effect Elmo. Do you do that entirely with brush work? Very interesting transition from the two colours.
Ldorte
That looks great, may have to try sponging on my next tank
elmo
thanks :). The sandy bit was done using a sponge rather than a brush although you could use a stipple brush to get the same effect.
WarriorFish
Stipple brushes never seemed to work for me, maybe you need to wipe most of it off and build up more coats?
elmo
Sponges are easier plus you just throw them away afterwards :)
elmo
I have made my mind up... Now I have decided on my new desert scheme (see the Leman Russ) I have decided to upgrade the original paintwork on my Valkyrie and Chimera. Here is the Valkyrie in its original paintwork. The plan is that the upper surfaces will get the sandy stripes and the lower surfaces will be painted in low vis grey. The wing art will be hidden if it remains white so it will be done in black instead. Just as a reminder: Before http://th08.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/f/2014/228/a/e/wip__valkyrie___before_by_elmo9141-d7vdjt9.jpg I reckon this will take me up to the end of the month.
WarriorFish
The wings look great, will you be keeping them? This sounds like a full repaint? It would qualify for Treads and Transports if so...
