2Dumb2Die
Hey I'm new to Bolter and Chainsword. I like the idea of making my own chapter and I've read all the 'guides' and have thought of a name and paint scheme. I am thinking of 'Heaven's Templars' who are a successor chapter of the Black Templars. Here is the paint scheme I'm thinking. The main body colour being white helmet and right shoulder are shining gold with a mixed trim (not sure what mix yet) the boots are boltgun metal also thinking to highlight the eagle wings with shining gold haven't really thought about their history and all that, but once i get the name and colours i will definitely be thinking of all the history and all that would love some feedback :) cheers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/269696-thinking-of-a-black-templars-successor/ Share on other sites
Erasmus of Baal
Clearly, you haven't read *ALL* the guides. I don't remember whether it was in one of the stickied guides or not, but the OCTAGUIDE explains exactly why you should never use the Black Templars as a progenitor Chapter (without a very fine reason). I like the color scheme, and you can use the name "Heaven's Templars" without coming from the Black Templars. I advise against that name, though; the idea of "Heaven" barely exists within 40K and makes them sound way more peaceful than Space Marines can ever hope to be. You can use the name, but it's iffy and should probably have some good fluff justification. Now, like I mentioned in the parenthesis, you can use the Black Templars, you just have to have an extremely good reason to not be using the Imperial Fists or the Crimson Fists (as those are also in Dorn's genetic lineage). The Black Templars are just about as anti-Codex Astartes as anyone and hardly even make a show of following it. If you want to use the Black Templars because you like the playstyle and want to use Codex: Black Templars as your army rulebook, well, you can do that from another gene-lineage, too. I can't really give you more feedback until you have more to show. Thanks for your feedback, the name yes doesn't really fit, i'm just thinking and playing around with some different names. i like the way the black templars are structured and how they recruit. of course they won't be identical but i like the idea of the never ending crusade and not having a home planet. i've always preferred the black templars over crimson/imperial fists, i don't really have a legitimate reason. but i'll be running off the BT codex. i spose the reason i'm even making a new chapter is just for the paint scheme to play with my mates. but in a way i would like to write a whole story for them. thanks again for your feedback and things. in the mean time i'll start thinking of a new name, more appropriate. Erasmus of Baal
Thanks for your feedback, You're quite welcome. :) the name yes doesn't really fit, i'm just thinking and playing around with some different names. Good man. Not my area of expertise, though, so I can't give you much help there. i like the way the black templars are structured THIS is the main problem that the High Lords of Terra have with the Black Templars. The BTs are completely uncontrollable and refuse to be organized in any way except for what is basically the way that they were organized back when they were a part of the Imperial Fists Legion. You can have their battlefield capabilities without having that organization, though. and how they recruit. of course they won't be identical but i like the idea of the never ending crusade and not having a home planet. The Imperial Fists are that way, actually. They don't have a planetside Fortress-Monastery, instead having the Phalanc, a gigantic mobile space station, as their base of operations. They recruit from nearby worlds as they see fit. A nevr-ending crusade can be applied to any chapter, really. i've always preferred the black templars over crimson/imperial fists, Most people do. BTs are insanely badass. Other Chapters, especially the Crimson Fists, are very badass, but only the Angry Marines even approach the Black Templars' badassery. i don't really have a legitimate reason. but i'll be running off the BT codex. It's fine to lack a reason now, but it should be explained in your fluff if you make it. i spose the reason i'm even making a new chapter is just for the paint scheme to play with my mates. but in a way i would like to write a whole story for them. That's fine. Really, there's nothing wrong with just saying "Here's my custom chapter [name] and this is their color scheme," but there is something very cool about having an awesome and well-written story for your chapter that you wrote yourself. thanks again for your feedback and things. in the mean time i'll start thinking of a new name, more appropriate. Again, you're quite welcome, and yes, the name is the main thing that I see a need to change about your Chapter. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/269696-thinking-of-a-black-templars-successor/#findComment-3285082 Share on other sites
Wulfebane
There are tons of fleet-based chapters. Also, just because you want to use their codex does not mean the chapter has to be a BT successor. You could have DA successors using C:SW or UM using C:BA. It all depends on how you write it to explain the codex-specific rules and structure. Azatoth
Use Sky Templars, or Sky Knights instead of Sky Templars. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/269696-thinking-of-a-black-templars-successor/#findComment-3285179 Share on other sites
Octavulg
The Black Templar codex actually isn't THAT divergent from a regular Marine one. The weirdness of the BT is all macro-level - it doesn't actually involve itself in 40K. So it's really easy to have a BT codex army that doesn't have the BT's problems, if you want such a thing. Also, the IF are way more badass than the BT's. Anyone can be badass if they have five times as many Marines as anyone else. EDIT: Oh, and Sky Templars sounds kind of neat. 2Dumb2Die
Use Sky Templars, or Sky Knights instead of Sky Templars. sky templars does sound very nice and also BT are so much more badass then IF ;) after i've actually played with them (with my friends) i'll start thinking of a story behind it, but at the moment ill just go with the templars of the sky or something similar to that. When I've thought of a story behind them i'll be sure to post it up here :) I'm really keen to use the paint scheme! thanks everyone :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/269696-thinking-of-a-black-templars-successor/#findComment-3287583 Share on other sites
