Lucious Pattern Dreadnought Drop Pods

Hey Guys,

I love asking questions, especially ones that help me to gauge the local community I have come to know and love for information.

Our Local TO has opted to open up all current IA books for the tournament scene (been a while back, but I'm just now thinking about it again).  I am seriously considering a trio of Dreadnoughts in Lucious Pattern Dreadnought Drop Pods, plus a few Contemptors, but that's another discussion.

Would the Chaplain Dread's personal pod be painted Black, to match his Sarcophagus, or would it be painted White to match the Deathwing?  Discuss?

Thanks!

Paul

What do those droppods even look like? I saw the FW dreadnaught one but is that it? Personally I would go for whatever you think. Personally I would do Black and the others White. My reasoning would be that the chaplain dread being a rarity would have his own sacred drop pod.

laugh.png i'd say .............paint the ton of stuff on your back log of models to paint(you know its a big list, you typed it out yourself) and worry about drop pod colors when all thats done....kids these days tongue.png

Blah on you. I'm working my way through it, but I also want to get in a nice sized Forgeworld Order here at the end of the week. It should really round out my army.

I've wanted this stuff for a while, and it will be a month or so before it gets here, so I've got plenty of time to get going on the rest of the painting. If I don't get it all done before it gets here, I can wait. I've already ordered all the foam for the new Forgeworld stuff, so I should be ready to rock and roll.

Looks like I will be getting:

(2) Contemptor Dreads w/ Las Cannon and Kheres Assault Cannon options + Cyclone Missile Launchers

(2) Chaplain Dreads w/ Dual CCW (Seems like a waste to put shooting on them!!)

(3) Lucious Pattern Dreadnought Drop Pods

(1) Storm Eagle w/ DA Specific Doors

Will keep me busy for quite a while. The Local TO has opted to open up all Forgeworld Models for tourney play locally, so we're off and running. The Contemptors will give me a good gun-base even if I'm not facing fliers, and the rest will just be fun to play around with.

Best,

Paul

Actually, no, but thanks for thinking about it. All said and done, by the time that I get through the last of these dice, and calculate time/tape/bags/gas/etc, I'll be lucky to break even on the dice. I just have a good job and make plenty of money. I am also aware that there are people out there who will buy these dice and turn them around for a profit, especially since they aren't made any more, so at least I'll get a piece of that.

mithril, I know you've always been one of my biggest fans, so I <3 you anyways ;)

My big question here is all the people that bought dice from you...why didnt you send them the same amount of tainted dice as the amount they ordered from you in normal dice... for "free"..since THEY and YOU were the purchasers-not just you...

in effect what im saying is the tainted dice belong to the original order people as much as you, yet you didnt send them out to them saying "hey guys we got a muck up so you get twice as much dice for free!" thats my only gripe with you really...

if you did send them extra dice then i apologise, but it sounds like you didn't...dry.png

Rule of cool always wins out. I'd say black drop pod with all sorts of fancy trim and special pieces

Apparently I've "reached my quota for likes" or some such nonsense despite never using the feature.  Still, if I could- +1.  If a chaplain was a badass enough dude to be interred in a dreadnought, I like to think that his 'pod would be suitably embellished as well.

It looks like this http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Images/Product/AlternativeFW/xlarge/DreadnoughtDP2.jpg , my apologies- they only have it showcased in space wolf colors.

mithril, if you have an issue with the way paul (who gave up his time to order, sort, box and ship a huge order of dice for our benefit) is handling the screw up by chessex, can you take it up with him in private? I've seen your comments on this in 2 threads now and that's not what I come here for. Everyone got what they ordered, no-one got screwed over. even me, who disappeared from the forum for like, 4 months, got my dice eventually when I got back in touch.

Mr Benner - from a gaming perspective;

- mortis contemptor dreads are absolute boss. They are pricy (especially with the kheres assault cannons and cml), but they don't half make a mess of things they shoot at. and they are fairly resiliant to incoming fire as well. and for a codex whos anti flier defence is pricy flak missiles and fliers that are geared more towards infantry, that's awesome.

- if your area is open to FW, then the choice to take FW Mortis dreads over regular dreads is a no brainer. For a 5 point upgrade on the double autocannon dread, you get skyfire and intercept when stationary. They are ace and a staple of many of my lists. Oh, and only dark angels can take them. so you should.

- lucius pattern drop pods work very, very well with the new DWA rules. 2 lucius pods and 1 regular pod lets 2 dreads come down with your DWA and the chaplain dreads are munching into combat. good times!

As to colours, fluff says they are green as they are fleet vehicles but rule of cool always overrides

In most games I won't have the option of taking all three Dreadnoughts, but to be honest, we play so many Mega Battles around here that the options are nice, and I think the army backs it's self up pretty well.  With my finalized lists I should be playing between 9K and 10K points of Deathwing, with ~100 Terminators on the field, 5 Land Raiders, 6 Dreadnoughts and a Storm Eagle, so we'll see what happens.

For the local Tournament scene and fun games, I'm thinking that (1) Mortis Dread will be standard in my lists at the 1850 mark.  That leaves me enough room for the HQs I like to take and a couple of Deathwing squads.  We'll see what happens.  Placing this order on Friday and then however long it takes to get here.  I know one of the local guys runs a flier heavy list, so I'll want to get those Mortis Dreads up and functional ASAP.

+1 This just lowers the whole forum - Lets be nice in public, if you have a grievance then use PMs.

Back on topic.....

Take with large dose of salt.

If the Chaplain is part of the DW then the pod could be Bone

If not I love the sound of a blinged up black pod :)

But rule of cool wins everytime

I think I will go with the blinged out black drop pods.  I realize that my painting is not the best, but it's come a long way from when I started.  We'll see how it goes.

I have plenty of DA Icons for Vehicles that will probably end up adorning the outside of the Drop Pods once they're cleaned up.  I'm really excited about this.  I've ordered all the Battlefoam I need for all this stuff.

I also picked up a pair of Auto-Cannon arms for my current Ven. Dread.  It appears that for non-FW games that those may be the go-to option for anti-fliers in my list.  I might have to get another Ven. Dread and get him some Auto-Cannon arms too, but we'll see.

Hopefully I can wrap up my other painting projects and get on with this one.  Haven't made much progress this week, but I plan on putting my paint on my LPC vow tonight.

Best,

Paul
