Good afternoon ladies and gents,

 

My name is Luke and I'm a Night Lord addict. There I said it. Wow this is better than beer.

 

Anyway, joking aside, I thought I would start a post about my progress with painting my Night lords. I've loved the NL colour scheme and background ever since I first saw it in the old 2nd Ed, Codex Chaos. Since that time I've always had a NL army in one incarnation or another. Just recently though it seems to have exploded with the inclusion of cultists and the beautifuly crafted DV chosen.

 

My painting is not the best and it takes me a long time to produce anything worth while. I intend to update this post as things get completed.

The quality of your painting isn't bad, and you seem to have thinned your paints (or they were already thin) but I think they'd be improved further by some washes such as devlan mud, just to increase the depth and mute the colours.

Thanks Cobalt, the models aren't as bright as they seem. I took the snaps indoors, surrounded by artificial light and a camera flash from my phone. I've been painting on and off for the past 20 years but something always gets in the way, hence why my stuff doesn't look like it's got 20 years of experience behind it.

 

For a long time I focussed on painting neat and keeping the brushstrokes within the lines. It's only within the past few years that I've started adding more detail and depth to my work.

 

I was thinking about adding some snow to the bases to break up the grey. What do you guys think?

From what I can see your painting isn't bad but I think the next step is to add some shading and layers. Also if you can try to work on your photography. Find someplace bright that won't cause a glare to your camera. I'm not all that great at photography either though.

You're right, these photos don't do the models any justice. I should get the missus to break out her DSLR.

 

It's funny how a well painted model looks rubbish and juvenile when blown up.
