depthcharge12
Currently I have a 15 man tac squad with chainaxes and bps riding with my praetor in a spartan and was wondering if I should replace the tacs (sarge also has arti armor and PF) with Rampagers? Pros (Rampagers) FNP Access to caedere weapons 2A (I think, can't remember) Scout Cons Can't score Only a 6+ FNP Small squad size My conundrum is that I want to keep my spartan as its a great model, powerful, and quite likely to get its squad into CC. But if I exchange my tacs for Rampagers they can't score and can't use scout because of spartan not being a DT. However my original use for the squad was to hit hard any of my opponents rear field units camping on an objective or deal with any deathstar like units. I figured that a squad of Rampagers fulfil that role better than normal tacs with chainaxes and bps and might come in handy to deal with deathstars because of the unique rules and uses for the caedere weapons and can issue and accept any challenges my praetor doesn't want. If I do decide to take the Rampagers, what weapons should I put on them? I'm thinking I have points for an 8 man squad and using one of each of the weapons (4 total then plus 4 scrubs) to deal with any threat they might encounter. Not many people I know of have HH yet so I don't expect to face other legions (maybe the occasional 40k mahreens) and think I will face nids, orks, crons, and chaos. What do you say brothers? Cmdr Shepard
I played Rampagers a couple of times as "retinue" for Angron and I wasn't very impressed. At the end of the matches they were the only unit I lost. I field a 7 men unit with Primus Medicae and Angron inside a Land Raider in order to use their scout redeployiment. It turned out the scout redeployiment wasn't really necessary. With redeployiment and full move they end surrounded by enemy and unable to charge. So in the end they had move like if they didn't redeploy. I hadn't good results with Caedere weapons. They all give nice bonuses but they didn't proved to be game changing. If you want a brutal CC unit I0d usggest to go with Power Weapons Veterans. They may cost even more but they should kill most unit they encounter, especially MEQ. If you face other 40K armies, like I do. I think you should go for more effective CC units since you cannot allow yourself to loose a combat because you don't have ATSKNF as the 40K SM. However they have a great advantage: they are all character and you can choose who will fight the challange. By the way if you are fighting orks I have some idea on anti-orks Legiones "options", let me know if you are interested in them ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/272123-caedere-weapons-and-rampagers-useful/#findComment-3319256 Share on other sites
depthcharge12
So why does it feel like the SoH are better than my world eaters in close combat? I feel like the WEs should have got merciless fighters rather than the sons. Plus we have to kill a unit (sometimes 20 large) to finally activate anything.....grrrrrr /End rant/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/272123-caedere-weapons-and-rampagers-useful/#findComment-3322453 Share on other sites

I suppose this will explain why SoH get Merciless Fighters rule. They turn such savagery into an effective strategy. Anyway if you are fighting Xenos the WE chainaxes will be even more valuable than Merciless Fighters...
