Blood Ravens - Dark Vengeance in BR colours 22/03/13

Hiya everyone,

Whilst I'm waiting for my funds to recharge  so I can carry on with my pre-heresy stuff, I thought I'd paint up the marines from the Dark Vengeance set. I love the models but I'm not great at painting all bone white armour. So, I decided I'd paint them up as some Blood Ravens. I'm not crazily keen on their fluff but I do like the colour scheme. I also had a spare Master of the Chapter lying around so with a bit of converting I thought I'd donate him to the chapter.

Anyway, on to the pics.

Thanks for looking,

Rob

Cheers mate, for the bone I'm starting with a base of XV25 ( I think that's it ) and then slowly mixing in Ushabti Bone until I've got pure bone. It takes a lot of layers to get it, hence why I don't want to do a whole mini haha. For highlighting I add a bit of Ceramite white to Ushabti bone and Bobs your Uncle, as they say.

The terminators legs are and I believe the captain with the spear is the 3rd or 4th captain from the space marine captains box, leader of scouts or initiate or something.... :-)

But yeah awesome work! Blood Ravens fits nicely with the feathers and all.

Cheers mate, I'me quite pleased with him considering he was just a knock about.

Did a wee bit more on the Terminator tonight. Not as much as I'd like but at least I've got something done. I went with a red power fist as I thought it looked better than adding more bone, and I thought black is represented enough on the ropes and feathers.

Thanks for the kind word brothers. I've done a bit more on him tonight. I'd say he's 99% finished, just needs a few touch ups on the feathers and lens and maybe a few highlights to the gold.

Well, I'd say he's about as finished as he'll ever be. Really enjoyed painting this guy. Next up is the Librarian and to finish off the force commander.

I used to just glue sand on, but i can say that painted sand looks a lot better. It sounds silly, but painting sand to look like a desert, looks more realistic than just gluing sand on. :P

Oh aye couldn't agree more sir. I shall return to his base before long with a much better look.

I've been working on the commander. I started trying NMM but as I was just "winging it", it's not come out very well. So I've stopped and now I've decided to practice a bit more on NMM before carrying on.

Here's the commander with his NMM ;

its a bit meh.

and here's a Rune Priest I gave it a go on today ;

I'm sure you'll agree, there's a bit of a difference. My dilemma now though is, do I forget the NMM on the commander and use normal metallic, or do I restart.

Cheers

Rob
