They came from Fenris.... (A space wolves blog)

Recommended Posts

With the second Wolf guard done i cant wait to get to the next one. Finally my force is coming together one model at a time.

you might wonder "why the hell is that guy painting his models one at a time??" well the question is pretty simple and has 2 reasons

1. since its a relative small force -just around 60 or so- i can spend time on my mini's instead of just slapping some paint on them and get my force done in about 3 weeks time.

2. Painting is my therapy. No not kidding painting keeps me in check giving me a way to relax my overcrowded head.

in the end i hope to have a -finaaly- good enough painted force that im happy about and can bring to battles. for now i leave you with some pics of my second wolfguard.

The OSL on those guns is beautiful!

thanks for the compliment. i tried to keep the osl to a point where the plasma was still stable. Imo the osl you see lately is plasma going critical

if i held a plasma gun like that i would throw it away or give it to my mother in law :D

the second wolfguard has a nice little touch to the plasma gun, as he is about to fire it the vents on the muzzle are already starting to glow a bit :P

to be honest the grey is done pretty easy the only real work you have is mixing up a good batch:

recipe is as follow:
1. a few pots of standard mechanicus
2. pot of rawler downey black ink
3. pot if matt medium
4. pot of 20/80 flow improver /distilled water

5. big pot or even a jar

now lets get cooking:

1. Get a big pot and throw in all your pots of standard mechanicus - i did my batch with 5 pots-
2. for each pot of standard mechanicus you threw in the pot get 35 drops of rawler downey black. be verry precise with this to many drops will give you a light black you dont want

3. mix in a good hard jolt of matt medium  -easy measure is 2.5 pots of standard mechanicus-

4. add -to you liking- the distilled water mix

Now for the painting:
1. start of with you dark wolf grey -named it- using an airbrush

2. wash the entire model with earthshade

3. layer on you dark wolf grey

4. highlight with a 50/50 mix of dark wolf grey and astro grey

and presto! dark armour on your space wolves

3rd Wolf Guard done in just a day! im really happy about that since it seems that finally im getting the hang of the scheme.

as you might notice this one is a bit different then the previous ones i made, holding the combi bolter with two arms. and getting ready to fire, i wanted a few member is the squad to look like that.

I also did a minor conversion on the backpack and added some close combat weapons to it. after all a space wolf cant leave the fang without them!

Man this is a awesome army you have going on. Really like the dark tone of the armour and vibrant yellow. BTW the scratched runes into the shoulder pad was a great idea, i may use in the future for my River Wolves

Since im pretty busy with a few commissions at the moment my own army is getting a little less attention then it should have.

but cash is cash so commissions before my own is what im always saying

None the less i finished one of my Long Fangs Yesterday so  here are some pics of my first Plasma Cannon guy

He -like others - are still waiting on transfers, Left shoulderdad gets
the one just like the Squad leader right one gets a Blackmane transfer

Time for a little sneak peak on my next model in line. This also will be
a Long Fang but one with a missile launcher. The head i used here is
one originally intended for the scouts, but since im not running any
scouts i decided the heads will be used throughout the army.

With #3 of my Long Fangs finished my drop force is starting to take shape!

#3  (the missile launcher guy ) uses a head of a scout which really sits nicely on the marine torso using just a bit of greenstuff.

Having completed 2 commissions the past week i havnt had much time to
work on my personal projects but since the last commission was picked up
this morning i took a small break and worked on my last long fang.

Since the squad is completed i could leave you all with some pics of the
completed squad, they are still missing their drop pod but that one is
up next.

A good thing about taking commissions is that it allows me to make
expansions on my army and not to mention to save up some cash for my FW
thunderhawk

With the drop pod done for the Long Fangs squad thats one less squad to paint. as always i really enjoyed painting something else then a marine and drop pods give me a nice " break" regarding my own army. i guess you can see them as some kind of reward....

For the pod i basically used the same techniques as with my first one (the youtube tutorial of buypainted) and really like the speed you can paint one up in a short amount of time.

result of another squad done:

On another note:

i have decided to already "upgrade" my army to another 1000 points but since im running out of organisation slots i decided that i needed to use a new one. the new additions will give me a staggering 11 drop pods (yes i REALLY love them)

Pod 9: Deathwind Missile launcer

Logan Grimnar

4x terminator -  2x combi-plasma,  2x combi-melta , 2x power sword, wolf claw, Chainfist

Pod 10: Storm bolter

5x terminator -  2x combi-plasma,  2x combi-melta , 3x power sword, wolf claw, Chainfist, Heavy flamer

Pod 11: Storm bolter

5x terminator -  2x combi-plasma,  2x combi-melta , 3x power sword, wolf claw, Chainfist, Cyclone Missile launcher

On top of the "small" addition of the 1000 points ill be focusing my next 1000 on buffing the first 2000 points giving the packs listed there maximum unit strength and adding at least 1 deathwind drop pod.

So Long Fangs are done now to paint up some troop slots strating off
with, but got a little bit sidetracked making 38 bases. Thats all the
bases i need to complete my army for now.

With those done it was time to start on my next project .....

pod 5: Storm bolter

* Wolf Guard - Combi Plasma , Power Armour, Power Fist

* 5x Grey Hunter - Plasma Gun

I started to try to finish all 6 models in one go but didnt go further
with it (done all the legs now) and focused back on a single model at a
time. i started with the Wolf Guard.

Ive been rather busy the past few days finishing not just one model but 3 in a row!

i really want to make my army complete asap so i can expand it to the next step the 3000 points mark.

After that im adding in a scratchbuild thunderhawk or 2 storm eagles (depends on getting templates for the eagles)

On another bright note: i got meself a FW venerable space wolves
dreadnought so i can dump my old one to my daughter who really want to
paint up a " robot ".

Finished the last 2 models of drop pod unit #5 today. So i only have the drop pod left to do.

i Really enjoyed my new way of painting. Doing all the legs first and then moving on to the individual models.

Since normally i bail on a project after painting the amount of models i
did i have to make a small note: im not bailing on these.

Finally i found an army i really enjoy painting!

Some pics now then:
