Questions of the Week

Two questions popped up last night:

1. Flying transport carrying passengers gets destroyed. Crash and burn, and the large blast marker scatters off the table. What happens to the passengers?

2. The Rapturous Standard says "all models locked in combat with the unit with the rapturous standard suffer a -D3 penalty to their Weapon Skill." Now, I haven't even been able to find what "locked in combat" means in this edition (totally undefined unless I'm blind), so what does it mean? How about for a multiple combat? In the game, the Daemonettes were engaged with an Assault squad, who engaged  with Plague Drones, who was engaged with Mephiston, who was engaged with Nurglings and Plaguebearers. Did just the Assault squad suffer the WS penalty, or was it them and Mephiston, and the Plague Drones, Plague Bearers, and Nurglings as well? (it was a rather large multiple combat).

1 - that would fall under - "models that cannot be placed are removed as casualties" surely.

2 - If the daemonettes are in a combat at the start of the fight sub-phase they can activate it (you have to be in a combat to have a "Fight sub-phase").  The way it's then worded, the standard's effect affects all non-slaaneshy units in the combat (including the Plague Drones, Nurglings and Plaguebearers in your example) resulting in a -D3 WS penalty to said units, whether they are friend or foe.

Locked in combat is defined in the "Who can Fight" section on page 23 of the BRB.

The rules for the Standard could be worded better (it should say "locked in a combat involving the unit" rather than "locked in combat with the unit" to avoid any confusion) but regardless if any unit is locked into a combat involving the unit of daemonettes then it'll be affected, unless that unit also has the "Mark of Slaanesh" or "Daemon of Slaanesh" upgrade/rule.

The problem there is that a combat involving multiple units is still one combat. Any unit locked into that combat (regardless of which unit they are engaged with) which lacks dedication to Slaanesh will be affected.

At least that's how it reads to me anyway.
