main components are

-any bolter bolter (mines are reg, SW and dark angels bolters)

-top piece of landraider lascannon barrel/tip from my GK landriader bits (anyone with a crusader/redeemer has these extra bits)

and extra SW bits(straps, wolf tail talismans, wolf claw necklaces, SW sword pommel wolf head)

the ones that arent so pretty up close i used too much glue to join the main components, didnt feel like cleaning it up but anything further than a foot and they look bad ass

Well with a lot of free time and a girlfriend that i mostly only see a few times a week, i tend to have plenty of time to paint my guys.  A lot of guys paint at a very high level of painting at my gaming store so it pushed me to actually try to put some effort in painting my army.

Hopefully, in the near future, ill be adding

- 2 Dreadnaughts/ contemptors (maybe grey knight dreadknight converions)

- 3-5 Drop pods

- 2 rune priest on bikes

Lookin forward to seeing them, the forge world dreads are absolutely naughty (myself personally am aiming for a FW space wolf contemptor) I've seen a couple guys at my pull off using the dreadknight as a substitute, ive seen nurgle,SPACE WOLVES,and I do believe a rather interesting pre-heresy thousand sons conversion. The conversion itself should be relatively easy, IL ask around next time im there. Have you thought out who's in the drop Pods or...?

ya ive played a good tau player at my hobby store with the combo i just mentioned, had Bjorn and another dread come crashing down from lucius drop pods and they wrecked shop in the tau lines. had 2 squads of long fangs with a divination rune priest in each take out the transports while my great hunters camped on objectives and thunderwolves sprinting across the field. By turn 4 i was down to 2/3 of my army with him down to 1/4... it was pretty much clean up from there and we just called it

-good army against armour and infantry, bad against monstrous creature heavy armies

Within the heart of the River Wolves strike cruiser, Claws of Russ, there dwells a chamber that none but the High pack and Techmarines are allow to enter. The sacred chamber lies behind a vast and thick ceramite door decorated with figure heads of wolves running across ice shelves and the mighty Vlka Fenryka forefathers of the River Wolves chapter.  The frost like aura and reverence that the door radiates alone is enough to make passing warriors make the sign of reverence  with closed fist across chest, when gazed upon. Within lay some of the many treasured chapter possessions... The mighty dreadnaughts! For a time the High pack dared not rouse such as the dark warriors as such but with raging battle waged and a sector of the galaxy needing more and more warriors, all thoughts have been cast away. With speed the techmarines have begun their ancient rituals and their toils have borne fruit for ancient machines of war have begun to stir to life and in their wake the waters will run red from the blood of their wrath....

Torin Ironmane

-once part of my Dark Angels army he will now wage war for my Wolves

Through many grinding campaigns one lone wolf has carved a saga of carnage and bloodshed that even those of the khorne bezerker hesitate to cross the field of battle within his presence. Torin Ironmane was a big brute of a space wolf, something going wrong in his space wolf transformation, leaving him towering above most space wolves with the girth to match. He would charge onto battlefields eyes full of death and cruel smile, wielding a large two handed frost blade of unknown make and hack apart foes in numbers with just one swing of his sword. Laid low while covering the flanks of a Storm Fang squad, he was found within a ring of enemy bodies, the height of which stood chest high. Only when the wolf priest came to collect the sacred gene-seed did anyone realize that Torin was not dead and in fact through cracked lips whispered " I must slay more". Though Body broken, Torin's will was diamond hard and with much debate within the high pack, he put into a dreadnaught that matched his dark ways... Now awoken he once again steps onto battlefields killing enemies by the score, this time only more dangerous and grim

Torin Ironmane was alot of fun building though i had to cut out alot of icons and charms from weapons and chest plates, i like how he turned out, i also went ahead and magnatized his arms so in the future he can be equipped however the company needs

I'm really liking the original take on the wolves you have. There's one very small thing though which would make a massive difference especially when they're all together.

It's taking a few minutes to clean up the rims on the bases so they're a single solid colour. Try it with a unit and you'll see what I mean. thumbsup.gif

Slapping some water effects on the bases will definitely make them pop.

From experience in messing something similar up myself, watch out for getting that stuff on the sides though as it'll make the side bumpy.  You'd be better to get the sides cleaned up and then applying the water effects to the top.

A friend of mine has started using water effects on the eye pieces of his marine's helmets and anything else that is supposed tobe glass. It actually looks pretty awesome. I think he practiced on about 10 throw away helmets before he was willing to try it on one of his models. Just something to think about.

Thanks Xerxes, the next couple models will be either drop pods or dreadnoughts and ive been in a heated debate with myself over the last few days on my next dreadnought, whether i want to use a contemptor or a dreadknight.... either way ill run the next one as with DCCW's and dual built in heavy flamers

the contemptors looks REALLY cool... BUT 2 guys i game with already have them in their black templar and blood angels armies

as for the dreaknight ive seen some cool models and pics around the internet and im leaning heavily on converting one, something along the lines as a mix of these two...

Both awesome conversion!

thinking of shorter defiler arms, adding in a big greenstuff wolf pelt on each since ive got some extra thunderwolf cav wolf heads and a LOT of bits... not sure on how i will mount the flamers and whether i want to go SW pilot or sarcophagus if i go the dreadknight route...

  • 2 weeks later...

well its been a while, been doing alot of gaming and went 2nd place in my local tournament so im loving my River Wolf army. During that time i got hold of some grey hunters and a few terminators that will become the terminator version of my High Pack members(Rune Priest). With a pretty easy day and me having a weird craving for coffee late at night, here are 3/10 Tide Hunters (grey Hunters) i have been working on for the past 3 hours or so
