Carach
You didnt like KNF? i found it to be one of the better books recently in the series. brought back some of the tragedy found in the first books of the series. nyways, betrayer: Cyrene's ressurection is a bit lame, but it is almost certainly part of a greater arc that we have yet to discover. im sure it will be pretty mind blowing when it comes together. angron isnt really my fav kinda guy so i always struggle to like pieces with him taking a central role, but this novel adb did well to kind of transform him into a more believable character and flesh out his history and emotions. Argel Tal is one of my favourite characters that played a big part in humanising the traitors. shame he was killed though what does that really mean when ressurections are apparently so easy in the 31st millenium? Kais Klip
I doubt resurrection by the means Cyrene was ressurected is as "easy" as it was shown; I'm expecting a very heavy toll to be revealed, perhaps personally with Erebus and any pacts his made and even perhaps some kind of tarnish on Cyrene. For sure I believe Erebus views Cyrene is extremely valuable; moreso than anyone like Argel Tal even if they weren't in odds, so I doubt Erebus would be willing to ressurect anyone else who is dead so far. I hate to break it to you, but ADB has vowed to strangle anyone who tries to ressurrect Argel Tal. ADB has already posted on this topic in another thread where complaints were made about his particular plot point. His remarks were thus: "Yes, everything certainly looked fine. Just like at the end of the Monkey's Paw. That sound at the door was only their dead son. What could possibly go wrong?" Sadly, this didn't come with ominous flashes of lightning and the mournful howling of wolves as a backdrop. But I imagined them anyway. Aegnor
ADB, just tweeted you a note of congratulations, but will add to it publicly here. That was one awesome novel mate. Fantastic crescendo of the themes and arcs from After De'Shea, TFH, Butcher's Nails, (Aurellian I understand although I missed it). Love what you've done with Lorgar and Angron - two primarchs I hated as characters who you've utterly turned me around on, you made both into great characters. I also liked the neat, respectful way you fixed up the "I walk the Eightfold Path" stuff up. To everyone, re the Cyrene question, in general I dislike resurrections when a character's death has been a pivotal plot point in previous books. That said, the fact it was a proper death and sorcerous resurrection is much much better than the "cheat" someone else mentioned earlier of Loken's return to life. More importantly, Cyrene's revival wasn't done for a cheap pop, or as a cop out for moving the story forward in interesting ways. It was a crucial pivot on Argel Tal's character arc. It was the temptation that lured him back into Erebus's web despite his own and Raum's best instincts. It is the monkey's paw, the Pet Semetary, that sets Argel Tal onto the road to his death. It was worthwhile for Erebus to expend that energy and those favours because it let him remove AT from the board and ensure Khârn met the destiny meant for him. In that context it was a important and valid part of the story as the relationship between Erebus and Argel Tal was so poisonous that little else would have got them to the point Erebus could kill him. By the way, add that to the kist of reasons I want Erebus to get his comeuppance. Even though we knew he survived to have his face off with Horus in Fear to Tread, I wanted Khârn to finish the :cuss soooo badly! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/274534-betrayer-a-review-unmarked-spoilers-inside/page/3/#findComment-3357853 Share on other sites
DarKnight
Aurelian doesn't count since it's permanently out of stock, and I don't remember his portrayal of him in the first heretic... It's for sale as an ebook now if anyone is interested. Captain Idaho
Late to the party but I'd just like to say I enjoyed Gree's review. It was fair and quite frankly better written than mine! I focused on separate parts of the book myself, and didn't agree with everything in Gree's review, but I understood his position.
