Tyler Mengel's Nurgle Forces Thread, Now with Black Legion!

Hey thanks everyone! I know I have promised the recipe for my demon flesh and I will post it but I am planning on entering some of these into the Golden Demon so I'm going to keep it secret until after then, sorry.

Nah, Sorcerer is to old, not close to what I can do now. It'll be Typhus, my Plaguebearers and maybe my dreadnought, haven't decided yet. I would enter the Blight Drone but it has to many mold lines and weird imperfections. Its a lovely FW model but the way they cast the tubes on the body left a lot of flash and weird lines on it. Good enough for the table, maybe a local comp but not GD.

The rust is simple. Paint the metal boltgun, was agrax, line highlight with mithril. Use heavily watered down Vermin Brown to paint your rust splotches. Do several layers of this if you want, it will add depth. I then finish it off with some Forge World Rust weathering powder right before I seal it. For the rust on the armor is is just the weathering powder unless I am painting rust streaks.

Oh no worries, that's totally understandable! The secrets of your revolting daemon flesh will be worth the wait.

I know this isn't the paint recipe but consider it a sneak peak. My least favorite part of painting these guys and one of the reasons it takes me so long to actually start one. I must prepare myself for an hour or two of base coating/layering.

Half way through restoring the color after the first wash. I know I could just wash the parts of the model that need to be shaded and not the whole thing, but there is so much detail on these guys I would probably miss otherwise.

Ready for the first layer of highlights now.

He will get several more glazes and washes before he is done.

Nice. That looks like painstaking work.

I see you're using the new Citadel shades - have you had any problems with them drying with a glossy finish? I know they're not supposed to if you shake them enough, but they absolutely killed a scenic base I was working on a while ago and I've been nervous to put them on any late-stage minis ever since...

Nope no problems with them at all. I'm actually starting to come around to them more then the washes (Devlan Mud I shall miss thee once I run out of my current pot). The washes use to dry chalky and white on me sometimes. Haven't had that problem yet with the shades.

Just thought I'd suggest a great (and personally tested) alternative for Devlan Mud: Army Painter's Strong Tone Ink (scroll down to the bottom of the list). As you can see, you get 25ml for $3.25, which is not bad at all :)

Ugh yes, they did. There was some kind of organic compound in some of them, too, and if you were unlucky it would start to decompose and the wash would stink like a dead rat.

I'm looking forward to trying the AP strong tone, I've been really impressed with the quality of their paints so far. Good to know it isn't actually an ink like the old Citadel inks. those were a special kind of glossy horror.

More progress on the Blight Drone. Meant to work on Golden Demon stuff but I need to prime them and I am out of primer so this guy got some time instead. Still need to do the tubes and lenses as well as some more rust work. You can see the base which has two nurglings on, one of whom is having fun with a Howling Griffons helmet, I'm pretty excited to paint those guys.

"Pull my finger"

Here are some slightly blurry, slightly over exposed photos of my finished Herald. I'll try and get better quality pics up soonish.
