Zurcas
Hi guys , I recently went halves with a friend in the dark vengeance starter set , loving it but I know from experience my painting skills really aren't up too the standard these models deserve so I looked around for alternatives and came to the army painters quick shade range and thought i might try my hand at "dipping". While I realise his will never look as good as a man with skills and a brush I was hoping this would at least allow me to practice painting without the end result looking terrible. I feel like while this may work well with my death wing , will it be as effectively on the tac squads and raven wing components of my army ? any and all input welcome. Cheers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/275742-dipping-dark-angels/ Share on other sites
Razblood
If you are set on this course of action then I would advise getting AP Angel Green, Matt Black and Skeleton Bone primers a red, a dark green, a black, a white, a metal and a gold, a blue and a bone colour would be good optional additions and a tin of Dark Tone or Strong Tone quickshade (But I think Dark Tone would work better) as well as AP anti-shine varnish. And one important note is that you shouldn't glue the models together before painting, just snap fit them as this ill make getting to some awkward spot a LOT easier ;) Dipping is very messy so you could always consider just painting on the quickshade with a brush. Tactical Squad - Spray them with the Angel Green following the instructions and making sure they get an even coat all over, paint the tactical markings in a red of your choice (I'd recommend a quite a bright red) as well as the eyes gun casings and the wax on the purity seals, paint the chest eagles, robes and purity seal strips bone or white, paint any metallic areas with a colour like Ironbreaker and any ornamentation in gold, also pick out the plasma coils in blue (take your time here and get everything as neat as you can) then dip or brush on the Dark Tone, obviously following the instructions on the can. Once dry give them a coat of the Anti-shine and then pick out the chapter badge with white and there you have it. Deathwing - Much the same just reverse some colours, Skeleton Bone primer for the armour, green for robes and chest eagles, red for chapter badges and dip then Anti-Shine. Ravenwing - Spray with Matt Black, give a very very light drybrush with white, after that everything else is pretty much the same as the tactical squad. Company Master - spray Angel Green, pretty much the same as the Tactical Squad just with a bit more ornamentation. Librarian - spray with Matt Black, paint armour blue (use thin coats - 1 part paint to 1 part water should do), do the robes and everything else the same as the Company Master, and if you fancy pushing the boundary mix a little red into a bit of bone (on a palette of course ;) ) which should give you a decent approximation of a skintone which you can use to paint his face :) These are just my ideas for what you could do, here's a guide from the AP website concerning the Dark Angel scheme - http://www.thearmypainter.com/gallery_presentation.php?GalleryId=87&Gallery=Sci-Fi%20Knight%20from%20Scibor%20Miniatures&page=1#.UZo7Ikq043g Good luck ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/275742-dipping-dark-angels/#findComment-3375755 Share on other sites
Xenith
I have heard of a dip perfect for Dark Angels. It's called "Simple green". Then paint them red. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/275742-dipping-dark-angels/#findComment-3375834 Share on other sites
