really cool...

From the Sign-up thread,

Alrighty, here we go! I present my entry, a Nurgle Sorcerer on palanquin with spell familiar. I plan on using textured paint on the fleshy greenstuff areas so the fingerprints (and there are many) hopefully won't be too big a deal. I may just sand them down anyways.

Well I'm running out of time so here's mine. Every time I look I see about five or six things I'd change or want to do better (Not the least of which pictures with something other than my phone).

Yo, this is my submission for the kitbash challenge.  I've used this as an opportunity to experiment with some true-scaling--I've added about 3mm to overall height with plasticard spacers.  Also, my thinking here is that he's going to be part of an all mk 8 chapter, so I've modeled in the gorget and pads at ankles.  He's assembled from pieces from the DV librarian arm, the grey knight box, the command squad kit, and some scavenged blood angel stuff--death company or possibly sanguinary guard, not sure.

I present to you Solstan Dare, Ferrum Magos of the Iron Eagles chapter:

Lovely pieces in here, I apologise for the crappy pictures and blue tac. I have 2 entries, first is Tarnos Kul, War Seer of the Shields of Myrmidon 4th company. Sucessors of the Novamarines, Tarnos has won the right through combat to wield the force axe the "Blade of the Skyborn" - a legion relic gifted to the chapter on there inception. He has a combii-plasma and jump pack to better fight the debased traitor marines infesting his sector.

The first native librarian of Marianos, personally trained under Lycurgus the Lord Librarius. Seconded to Deathwatch for 3 terms (80 years), he returned to train under Lycurgus further and has been personally named sucessor to the Lordship. Present when Lord Myrmidon fell in combat against the Slaaneshi slave cult the Golden Dawn, he was instrumental in keeping his young chapter together. He has sworn bloody vengeance against the Dawn. A potent psyker, he has sworn bloody vengeance on the Golden Dawn.

Realistically, it's probably going to be a week or more to whittle these excellent entries into a Final 5, so I'll update again in a week. Don't forget to post your painted Challenge minis the HoH thread, Grotsmasha's Conversion Challenges Showcase Thread.

Also, starting August 1st we'll be doing Grotsmasha's Conversion Challenge: Company Captains/Chapter Masters/Chaos Lords as promised to 1000Heathens.

Cheers,

Jono

So 20 captains:whistling:

Not quite that many! laugh.png

My Amber Dragons have no minis (well, they have one a poorly painted Devastator Marine, who will be dunked soon). My Sons of Cruor have one ready to assemble and paint. I haven't done a kitbash for my Dark Angels DIY successor, the Angels of Salvation either. My Steel Wings could do with a new one (or two msn-wink.gif ) as I want them to have a Chapter Master (more likely a Generic one than a Calgar counts as this time) and I might stretch to going "old school" and doing a Space Wolf Lord. Been too long and Fenris calls to my old bones once more happy.png

In any case, once ETL is over, I'll still be busy smile.png

Congrats to all those who made the final 11, well deserved, every one. Alas, the end approaches, and that makes me very sad. I've enjoyed browsing this thread and bitterly nursing my envy of your converting skills.

Still, a winner has yet to be chosen and a new challenge is on the horizon, and I eagerly look forward to both. :)

I see what you did there brother... Beautiful work, love the hooded head and crossed blades, he radiates silent menace.

Thankyou for the kind words. I think you might be the only person so far to notice the reference, assuming that's what your talking about smile.png. I just noticed I misspelled his name, all fixed now.

Congratulations to everyone who took part. 40 completions is an amazing amount with some simply stunning entries. In particular, i'm feeling inspired by 1000heathens, KBA, averykess and Brother Chaplain Kage's work. Good job Apocalypse 6th Ed has a Librarius formation, i'm going to need it biggrin.png.

Now to start planning a Company Captain to go with my Chaplain from last Challenge.

Edit: Just thought, i've got the parts to make a Company Champion that could easily be a Company Captain. Should I be considering entering him as a Captain, or should I be holding off for another challenge in the future?

Indeed, I certainly wasn't expecting 40 entries, much less completions! Congrats to all those that finished!

I'm glad my libby is an inspiration, Toxic, but I'm also glad this challenge inspired me enough to finish a conversion I originally imagined over 2 years ago. Congrats on making it to the finals yourself.

For your champion idea, if you think it could work as a captain, I'd say go ahead and plan on using it for the next challenge.

And for those who entered but didn't make it into the finals, don't be discouraged! I've only recently gotten to the point of feeling like I kind of know what I'm doing with greenstuff. If you see a figure you think is better than what you can currently accomplish, let it inspire you and help you reach to improve. I also suggest keeping around some of your early works so you can look back and see how far you've come with each new finished project.

This is my earliest conversion that I did after getting into 40k back in 3rd edition:

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x5/Kageboshi/SM-Boba.jpg

The hand was snapped off and lost in a move when the figure case came open, but when I'm feeling down about something I'm currently working, this helps to quiet that nagging, critical voice in the back of my head.

Hope to see you all in the next challenge.
