The Toughest Girls of the Galaxy Kickstarter

Right, I hope it's OK with the Mods to post this as a purely informative topic, to let people know that this Kickstarter is happening right now.

Anyway, onto the subject at hand.

+ + + + + + +

So, there's this Kickstarter campaign that was launched yesterday from a small French company called Raging Heroes. They produce a range of 28mm, high-quality metal miniatures for both fantasy and sci-fi audiences. And now they' launched this KS campaign to finance the full release of three all-female human soldier armies. Naturally, my first thought was that this would be absolutely great for people who want to add female models to their Imperial Guard armies (or have a full-on lady soldier army, like me).

There are three very different factions up for grabs in this Kickstarter: the Jailbird Division, the Kurganova Shock Troops and the Iron Empire. The descriptions below are the ones provided by the RH team:

THE JAILBIRDS DIVISION

(We nicknamed them the Rambettes.) They were the ones that started it all. They are a bunch of low-life bad-ass big-attitude girls who all ended up in planetary prison held by the Kurganov government. In the game, they will be used as small penitentiary contingents led by the Kurganova Shock Troops, or as a full autonomous faction (because, as you can easily imagine, many of them have escaped captivity).

They are commando-style units with nothing to lose, and they specialise in acquiring enemy equipment for their own purposes.

THE KURGANOVA SHOCK TROOPS

Led by the ultra-powerful Kurganov family, the Kurganova Shock Troops are a highly organized and disciplined army with underlying Eastern European themes. They also benefit from the support of strong cyber-enhanced paganic magic. This, among other things, allows them to 'waken' the 'were' gene that can transform some members of the Kurganova army into giant were-wolves or were-bears.

THE IRON EMPIRE

The Iron Empire is made up of exiled people that have somehow stumbled upon necromantic knowledge from alien pharaonic gods. They combine Prussian and Germanic influences with some kind of Aegyptian cyber necromancy that allow them to raise the dead and create bio-mechanical aberrations.

Now, before I post the link to the Kickstarter, I'll tease you with a few pretty pictures:

Now, for the Kickstarter, go here (link). If you have any questions to ask, please feel free to post them below. Being a Raging Hero Herald, if I can't answer your questions, then I can take the questions and requests straight up to the RH team who will answer those for me.

Anyway, I hope this all kind of makes sense and if you have any questions, feel free to ask below!

Cheers,

Lupo

Hmm.... Id like to see some of these standing next to IG or sisters, for size/proportions sake.

And you know the easiest way to make sure its ok would be to PM your IG mods.... right now.

Now that the official post is up, I can say that I'm pledging to get my hands on the Kurganova Shock Troopers. Armoured, bad-ass chicks with big guns and an attitude is my kind of thing ;) Plus, they look like female Cadians, which is terrific! The Rambettes have some very characterful models, so I may get a few of those, just for fun. As for the Iron Empire... there's just something about those gas mask heads that I'm not too keen on, sadly.

EDIT:

Good point, I'll do it now. And I'll try and see if we can get some scale shots.

EDIT #2: Scale shots!

The chaps doesn't have any IG models, but you get a general idea of their height and proportions, I believe.

I don't see why it should be an issue really. It's not like this forum is restricted to GW models only, it's completely ontopic for IG and SOB.

We've had kickstarter links for other games systems before now (Rick Priestly's one springs to mind)

I'd message the mods out of courtesy though.

Onthread, some of those models look really good! Can't same I'm a big fan of the "movie style" hot chick with big guns and little clothing models though. Well not for SoB or IG, for a Necromunda Escher gang those would be awesome!

The Necro Priestess and the heavy troopers would look great in a themed guard army though.

Scale next to GW models as Grey mage said would be handy

Very nice models, especially the "sniper" and the "nurse" ;)

The only scale issue I can see if with the SM, which I suppose come from the old AoBR kit. Now If I'm not mistaken the SM from the kit are a little shorter than they should.

I think the best way to compare size would be putting the minis near a measuring tape... just a thought.

Ooh, like the necro-priestess a lot (although I'm not sure what you'd use her for - necron?), and Lady Von Straheim looks like she'd fit right into a Krieg army.

Can't say I'm a fan of any of the other examples, but if there's more in the same vein as Von Straheim...

I think she is intended to be played as Tech Priestess...

Damn you, now I need to snag more miniatures for my Desert Rats.

Time to divert funds from my Super Kriss V.

I have way to many expensive hobbies. . . and a wife.

Ya lost me....

Until I saw the Kurganovas. Thank God, actual tactical female warriors, not just "ooh, look at me in my skin tight clothes, super cleavage, and armoured girdle". Screw that crap. I want fugging Soldiers, not pin-up girls.

I might jump on this, just to see them made en masse.

The only thing that does bug me is the scale. If they actually made more Kurganovas (especially the heavies), I'd hope they would make them in resin or plastic, so that I can scale them down. Pewter would be a royal pain to lower to a normal 40k scale.

Cmdr Shepard: Aye, the scale is a bit off. They seem to be as tall as Infinity miniatures, actually, which are slightly taller and a lot less bulky than GW models.

Squirrelloid: As Shepard pointed out, I believe that using her as a Tech-Priestess is the way to go smile.png

Obscura: Funnily enough, I'm not surprised to find you saying that. I think they'd work pretty well in your army. The only issue is size/proportions, but that can be fixed, I'm sure!

1000heathens: I'm going for the Kurganova troops as well, but I must say that I really enjoy the general aesthetic of the Rambettes, because it suits their attitude so very well, IMO. Oh, and all of the Trooper models will be cast in resin (with a slight chance of certain units being in plastic, but it's a very slight chance), with only the Heroines being cast in metal.

Brother Lorien: Does that mean you'll be getting some too? msn-wink.gif

Karmina is a nice model, but I already have my vindicare counts-as. She may get tossed in to fill out a pledge level, if i do go for it.

Heathens, there are some more scale shots people have posted here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/270645-sob-alternative-model-from-raging-heroes/page-2?do=findComment&comment=3387932

Well, the people at Rgaing Heroes got Update #4 up a few hours ago. First some of the pictures:

I wonder what that freebie will be... Anyway, onto the text that was posted after the pictures smile.png

What happens when a Kickstarter launches to such overwhelming numbers?

First, you go numb. You stare at the screen, halfway between manic hysteria and stunned silence. Friends from neighbouring offices roll in to congratulate you and ask you “what's a Kickstarter?”. The phone rings off the hook. SMS messages pile up. Skype rings non-stop too. The ding-ding-ding of Facebook messages makes a constant background noise. There are so many things demanding your attention all at once, you just don't know what to do first. Since you just got the link of the campaign (there was no way to have it before launching), you want to repost it where people can find it. But while you're doing that, you notice that all the Early Bird Specials are already gone. You've got messages flashing all over your screen clamoring for attention: email, FB, Raging Heralds (bless them one more time!), Kickstarter emails and comments... And then you've got your stretch goals... Which you don't even have time to output from locked to unlocked, as the KS locomotive is rolling over you... Your friends and neighbors kindly realize that you're white as a sheet and leave you to it. You start plugging away at the keyboard, but you're still in a daze. As you try to focus, questions keep popping up that were not anticipated, and which require quick pow-wows between us 3 to answer. Focus gone. Start over. Re-interruption.s. Re-discussions. Re decisions. Re-back to “what was I doing?”. And so on...

Honestly, what an amazing ride!
And after 54 hours, the madness continues :-)

Can we have more Heroines-only pledges?

Yes! We're still working on that, and you will be notified via an update.

Some images from your previous updates are not working...

Yes, we noticed that. That is because we linked them to images that were on the main project page. But we did not realize that when you remove an image from that page, the link goes dead! Kickstarter does not keep the links alive! So, now we know. We're now uploading to a permanent server, so the images for the Updates will no longer go missing. But we can't fix the previous updates, as the Kickstarter platform does not allow edits on updates once they're posted, so we'll add them back in future updates.

Can we have larger images of the unlocked minis?

Yes indeed! See below.

Meanwhile, please have a great day, and thank you again! Your support is incredible! More soon!!!

So, things seem to be doing well at the moment. New stretch goals and a freebie coming up soon!

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to ask smile.png

Battle-Brother Ludovic - The first freebie, Ash the Tank Gunner will be perfect for my Armored Company. I kind of want to get another one. . . I'll have to trade for it or purchase it down the line when it pops up on Ebay or something.

Modeling them down to 40k scale wouldn't be that difficult since they're going to be in Resin.

Right now I'm sitting at 165 as that'll pretty much provide a command squad, two full squads of Veterans and four fire teams along with all the other stuff that comes with it.

Obscura: If you have pledged 165, you will be getting Tank Gunner Ash with the rest of your models ;)

Oh, and for the rest of you, a new stretch goal has been announced! Here's the artwork for the Jailbird Divison mecha!

Despite the lack of a cockpit, I think it looks absolutely terrific :D

Wish i could Ludovic, but the misses will not let me buy new miniatures until i have finished painting all my current ones , so this will take some time before i can order anything new.

I always did love the heavy battle suits with the exposed pilots, all that armor and firepower and the person running is just sitting there in the open.

"LOOK AT MY MIGHTY KILLBOT SUIT!!!"

"It looks positively fearsome! You know I can just kill you with a rock, right?"

I had high hopes for this but I'm not sure how suitable they'd be for my Guard. The Regiment is a professional fighting force so scantily clad women doesn't fit the theme and isn't exactly new or different either. The heavy infantry might be good as carapace vets though, I'll wait and see - same with possible scaling comparisons.

This really tempts me to start a guard army, or at least get a painters set for some of those character models.  Not sure how my budget for minis looks right now, guess i have 20 days or so to make a decision.

Things I'd like to see and would help me make a decision:

-More of the upcoming character models.  Trying to figure out which of the unshown Iron Empire characters are likely to be visually appealing to me is driving me nuts (but at least Stroheim is now on the board to be unlocked, as that's one of the models that really sell this line for me).

-Actual master sculpts, not just concept art.  Seeing the Stroheim and Nepharya sculpts in this thread did more to sell the line for me than all the concept art put together.

-Some idea what the heavy weapon options are going to look like that come with the command squads.  Are we talking WH40k style heavy weapons, or assault weapons like meltas and flamers?  (If the former, does it not come with any 40k-type assault weapon options?)

-What kind of availability is there going to be post-kick starter?  I live in the US: will there likely be local distribution, or will I need to order anything I want from France?

Things I don't like:

-I think the artillery pieces for the support weapon teams look gimmicky and too anime.  Which is too bad, although I suppose I could just use GW heavy weapons and convert regular troop models into firing teams.

-The mecha is just silly.  I'm sorry, but the Dreadknight was a bad idea when GW did it, and at least that pilot is wearing power armor.  It feels like you placed more emphasis on showing it was a girl in the driver's seat than on it being a functional piece of wargear.  Hopefully the other factions will not share this design.
