Space Marine Scout Head Conversions/Alternatives (Preferably

Recommended Posts

So, I am looking for a scout head alternative. I was digging through my bits and figured out that I have nearly 15 standard scouts and have decided to build them. The problem is, I hate the standard Space Marine scout heads aside from the scout snipers with NVGs of which I have none at the moment. I have seen people use IG (standard and Forge World), Pig Iron helmets, etc. but I cannot justify buying more bits just for some scouts.

A few years back, I believe in WD, I saw a conversion where someone had simply shaved down and modified some standard SM helmets to fit a scout body and it looked quite good. For the life of me I cannot find a picture of this. Anyone out there have some pics/suggestions for doing some simple mods for scout helmets?

Cheers

I just shave the top mohawk-thingy off and leave the collar intact.  It's a bit of a pain getting everything smooth, but it looks fine in the end wit ha bit of patience.  Most of my Neophytes are that sort of conversion.  You can see examples on pages 2 and 5 of my Templar blog, linked in my sig.

You need to cut the neck off, too, since they aren't made for scout bodies.  The solution is as simple as just putting a small greenstuff ball on the bottom of the head and pressing it into the neck hole.  Let dry, detach, glue back together, done. :)

I did mine a different way, wanting SM heads on my lads and deciding they looked a little too weedy, i made the decision to fit them with with SM aquila torsos.

The head doesnt need converting to fit that way.

trouble is it creates even more work, but i like to think it paid off.

originally i used SM sergeant baldies to retain the scouty look, but ive since switched them to helmets above

heres a couple of different angles, all i do is clip the 'nob' off the back of the torso, you still get a small backpack type thing at the back, but in keeping with the 'lite' theme of the model

Seems like there is room for a chapter insignia on the backpack or whatever else. Just a way to add a little more detail. But dang. Great models and great idea. How much work s required for fitting legs into SM chest? Or do they fit right in?

requires a fair bit of work, you have to remove half of the belt and then shave down the other half leaving only the buckle.. its a little fiddly.

ill try and get some WIP pics done

I'm curious as to whether you have any comparison photos of your Scouts next to regular Scouts (I'm mostly wondering about shoulder width).

Cheers matey!

My first thought was that they seem a lot bigger, which I have issues with since the curent plastic Scouts are too big for my taste when compared to power armour and the metal Scouts (which I have some of).

Then I noticed they were propped up on the rocks quite high.

Will definitely test a few when I eventually get down to doing Scouts.

I was already considering up-armoured pauldrons, but up-armoured greaves is a decent idea too. Honestly, I'll be taking many, many cues from ODSTs and Spartans for my Scouts when I get around to them.

And come now Firepower, it's not that complicated! tongue.png

EDIT: Clarity.

Another option:

Built it here:  http://40kgiveaway.blogspot.com/search/label/Imperial%20Fists

Now THAT is a Scout Sergeant!
