Hello PCA forum!

This thread is following on from an idea that cropped up in an Amicus Aedes thread where we recalled how older GW models for Devastator and Assault Squads had modified boots/ankles.

Devastators (or at least the Heavy Weapon carriers) had Magnetic Locking ankle mechanisms (occasionally Gravatic Locking) to aid their stability for firing. I believe the last models GW did with these modelled were the old metal devastators.

Assault Marines used to have ankle thrusters to control their flight. I *think* these are still present on some Blood Angel models.

So far Disruptor_fe404 has made one (very good) suggestion, detailed below; can PCA add anything more?

Do let me know how it goes and what ideas you have - I'd love to see some old-style different legs for different roles.

As of right now, I can see using some trimmed 'fingers' from the Death Company/Furioso kit as ground locks/stabilisers on the outside ankle area of a Devastator's legs.

Oh I *like* that idea. Most especially because I have 8 of those spare smile.png

Yeah, easy replication across multiple models is always secondary concern for conversions that need to carry across multiple models, and I think you get 4 or so per kit if you don't use them!

You can probably also get away with cutting a shallow 'hemisphere' off the backpack vent-globes and use them as Assault Marine ankle thrusters, making sure to include part of the grill structure.

Alternatively, if you're willing to use Sanguinary Guard parts (which people would probably have far fewer of) you can use the actual globe-like thrusters they have on their packs in the manner described above.

I'm not as confident on this one as the stabilisers for the Devastators though.

I'm going to source some pics of the older models later & I'll post them in the thread as a resource. If anyone has any pics of the older models with the relevant parts, feel free to save me the job and post them.

On the subject of Devastators, I think one of the problems will be that most of the available legs now don't stand upright in the manner that the old Devs did, which makes making the lock look right tricky. Only the Command Squad sprue has a straight standing pair of legs. I'm wondering if Biker legs can be adapted though.
