Magos Kasen
Whatup Battle Bros, Just signed up, but I've read this forum on and off over the last few years, mainly whenever I get tempted to join the dark side and buy some 40k. Anyway, my willpower has finally caved, and I've decided to get some small ~250pt forces to use in a not-killteam 40k skirmish game. This way I can pick and choose things I like from each army, since I have absolutely no desire to actually collect a whole army and play teh Kays. Marines are my start point, simply because they're so damn badass I've always enjoyed delving into the backgrounds of different chapters, and have even made a few of my own, but for this project I'm settling on the boring old Ultramarines. Despite their blanditude, I think properly done Ultramarines can look amazing, so hopefully mine will be satisfactory. My 250pt force uses the Space Wolf codex, because I like options and character, neither of which are available at 250pts in the regular Codex. List is: PA Lone Wolf - bolt pistol and power maul10 Grey Hunters - 2x flamers, power fist, plasma pistol, mark of the wulfen, wolf standard250pts Fluff stuff, still awaiting refinement, so feel free to correct me if I've made any horrible mistakes: The list is themed around an Ultramarine force in the aftermath of the Battle for Macragge - heavy casualties have forced makeshift squads made up of survivors, all of whom have seen enough combat to be considered 'veteran' in normal standards. The disorganisation and losses have made strict Codex adherence difficult, and marines like these will eventually end up forming the Tyrannic War veteran squads. This squad has been cobbled together in the immediate aftermath to carry out whatever it is marine killteams usually do. Killing things mostly, I expect. Anyway, enough waffle, time for pics. They're all still WIP, since I'll be detailing them further (and in the case of the lone wolf, finishing his assembly). Not sure how soon I'll paint them, I have a lot of other projects on the go. But if these are popular, it'll be that much quicker. If anyone wants to read a slightly more in depth post about the start of this project, or see some of my other projects, blog linkage. deathspectersgt7
Very cool like the poses keep it up. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277859-adventures-with-ultramarines-a-small-project/#findComment-3409320 Share on other sites
Grotsmasha
Some of the best kit bashes and conversions I've seen in awhile, excellent all round.  Cheers, Jono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/277859-adventures-with-ultramarines-a-small-project/#findComment-3409443 Share on other sites
Brother-Chaplain Kage
Good stuff, but the giant Ultramarine symbol codpieces are just a bit too much. Not only does it look strange, but it would also severely hamper the rang of motion for their lower body. Brother Captain Sirus
nice work, nice to see some ultramarines as apparently i'm one of those who just liked them from the go and don't find the boring at all (that's right painted target here lol). which set does the head on the first sergeant come from? Hmm, I hear what your saying, but by the same token, 'practical, realistic and flexible' aren't words I'd ever use to describe marine armour anyway. I like the ultracodplates, so I think I'll keep them. But thanks for the feedback. Very cool like the poses keep it up. Some of the best kit bashes and conversions I've seen in awhile, excellent all round. Cheers, Jono Thanks to you both :) nice work, nice to see some ultramarines as apparently i'm one of those who just liked them from the go and don't find the boring at all (that's right painted target here lol). which set does the head on the first sergeant come from? The sergeant's head is from the Ravenwing command squad box. Magos Kasen
Ok, not a lot of progress, but I've slowly been adding details to the squad. Only a few of them in these photos, but I figured no need to post pics of every little change. I'm playing around with different ideas, and so far nothing's been too disastrous, so yay for that. I'm particularly pleased with the power cables on the sergeants pistol, makes it much more serious looking imo. Lining up the wires between the gun and the power pack wasn't easy. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt243/Magos_Kasen/Models/IMG_0196_zps5fa9dc4a.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt243/Magos_Kasen/Models/IMG_0197_zpsc598aacd.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt243/Magos_Kasen/Models/IMG_0198_zps0811410c.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt243/Magos_Kasen/Models/IMG_0199_zps6ff9c4ab.jpg Let me know what you think Also, bloggity link, has a list of all the pieces used to make the squad. GrandMagnus
Strange, I quite sure I posted a comment here yesterday... Ill just repost it then: Awesome kitbashes and a great theme for using the Space Wolves codex for Ultras. But why is there a wolf tail on the vexilia? Your minis you do with them what you want, but it just seems strage...
