Son of Carnelian
Hello brothers! I was looking through GW's flickr and I saw these marines by user Sanctio Avitus ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/99490091@N05/). Does anyone have any idea how they got that shade of bronze? It's just striking. Anyway, thank you for the help! http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3747/9386768693_c351e9eea5_z.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278093-question-about-bronze/ Share on other sites
skawolf
Honestly it looks like mithril silver washed with devlan mud then washed with gryphon sepia.... Peredyne
That looks fairly similar to my own bronze effect for my Minotaurs. My formula is Khaki base coat, VGC Bright Bronze and a sepia/black wash. The wash dulls the orange of the original bronze color. Firepower
Wow...those are gorgeous. Not exactly helpful, I know, but it needed to be said Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278093-question-about-bronze/#findComment-3413530 Share on other sites
Artemid
I'm skeptical what kind of wash that is, as the GW ones are rather thick and it is very very evenly distributed. Very pretty though :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278093-question-about-bronze/#findComment-3413593 Share on other sites
Son of Carnelian
Wow...those are gorgeous. Not exactly helpful, I know, but it needed to be said Really, Firepower? Nothing to point out? You usually have a keen critical eye. I thought I might be alone in admiring such a simple color scheme but when even you have no observations... boy. This scheme really rules, then! (Not trying to snark at all, I am just genuinely surprised you have nothing to critique.) Firepower
Actually, I hate the eyes. But since it wasn't your work, there wasn't much point to noting where I saw mistakes. C&C is kinda pointles if it can't be acted upon Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278093-question-about-bronze/#findComment-3414280 Share on other sites
Gratan
Looks like the color I used to get when I was doing my Salamanders Chaos Black base Bright Gold Chestnut Ink Glaze Bright Gold Drybrush Bright Gold mixed with Enchanted Silver lightly drybrushed on high reliefs. That looks more like Chestnut ink than any of the current GW washes IMHO. I could be wrong though. Those are wonderful models. I love that color scheme Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278093-question-about-bronze/#findComment-3419566 Share on other sites
Venerable Jazzman
You could try a mix of Tin Bitz and Boltgun Metal, looks similar Or maybe Dwarf Bronze with a Chestnut ink wash Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278093-question-about-bronze/#findComment-3426368 Share on other sites
