prime to join the Heresy, and the Traitor is chosen!

So as with my friend 1000heathens, I have grown weary with the direction that GW is taking 40K.

I have decided to finally start a Heresy era army, two actually.

these will not be huge Armies as the wife is demanding a house first! with these two armies I am going to try to return to the Grimdark I fell in love with in the first place.

Army number one will be(drum roll) TRAITOR! yes, I am going to step from the Emperor's light........finally. I have to admit, it feels liberating. I still don't know which legion yet, but here are my options:

1. Death Guard, I love these Guys color scheme, should be easy. and those termies!

2. Emperors children, wow, pruple marines. 'nuff said. and the palatine blade, gorgeous.

3. Word Bearers, grey then red is cool. and I love dogmatic religion(even if Idon't practice itmsn-wink.gif )

Army number two will be Loyalist. hey, old habits die hard and besides, I need an army to set opposite of heathens. my options thus far:

1. Imperial Fists, siege of Terra, Sigismund, and golden yellow armour. Winning! oh and I heard that they have beef with the Iron Warriors.

2. Salamanders, well I like green, and my son dosen't want me to touch Legio IX. he want's to do them!

3. Ultramarines, I really do like blue. and those praetor pattern helmets(don't know if that is the right name) and I can start adding other colors to show the transition to succesors(Orar, Praetors of Calth, etc.)

with the loyalists I am choosing three that have strong heraldic colors(I used to be a Middle ages combat re-enactor).

Yes, I will be leaning on my brothers to help me decide which two to do. this will not be a typical, lazy "4 armies" vote. I plan on painting a test mini for each choice and post them and we can all argue it out.

cheers,

prime

A granite Word Bearer force that is still in its God-Emperor phase would be awesome.

And while your ideas for Ultramarine Chapters intrigues me, being able to share your hobby with your son over the Blood Angels should always take precedence.

well, my Loyalist list has changed. My son want's Legio IX all to himself. so the Sallies are in the line up!(sweet, I like green)

I am assuming heathens liked this for the Word Bearers! Yes they will most definitely be in the God Emperor phase!

and as stated, my kid want to do the IXth.(his allowance is doomed!)

Why not go with a full-blown Siege of Terra army and play bo Fists and Angels (with some Scars thrown on, maybe?) ?

I can't do the BA part but if the fists make the cut, there might be some white marines(assuming i am not sick of white when I'm done with my Star Phantoms!)

I reckon do a campaign army with both forces such as ultras and word bearers or dark angels and night lords.

Fixed it!tongue.png This is a great idea! this is exactly why I love this community! my hero.

Loyalists: Salamanders Imperial Fists

Traitors: Night Lords Word Bearers

Fixed it! the Sallies are in the running now. and the Word Bearers are definitely getting some love!

Try doing the BA 5th company (flesh tearers/amit)/ Gal vorbak scheme. Red armor with black shoulder pads FTW

This way you can switch between "good/bad" guys and not break the bank!

both are incredibly fluffy

My son actually likes this!

oh, one quick question. I don't have Betrayal yet, Are there combi-weapons in the Horus Heresy?

Yep there are combi weapons, off the top of my head praetors, centurions (though not all consuls), legion veteran squads, and seeker squads can take them.

The 30K Centurions are drastically different from the 40K ones however. In 30K, the Centurions are another name for Company Captain and etc. Not:

Only issue with the Night Lords might be that they won't "evolve" as noticeably throughout the Heresy, them rejecting daemons and gods and heavy drugs. But Forgeworld is sure to have that covered. I'm actually very eager to see the thunderboys in the flesh.

If you're that keen to get started I would recommend either Word Bearers, Emperor's Children or Death Guard since by the end of the year those 4 Legions should all have rules in print, providing the rumours about Massacre debuting at Games Day UK are true. Could possibly include the Salamanders in there too since I'm not 100% on the 4th Legion to be included along with Word Bearers, Iron Hands and Night Lords.

Thanks for the combi-help gents that makes my day, but not as much as........

this! soooooo stolen!

They truly are terrible, but they look particuarly bad in blue. For some reason they are less offensive to my eyes in the shots of them as BT's.

Also, welcome to the heresy, F-P. smile.png I think purple is your colour. msn-wink.gif

I am leaning towards EC, but, it will mainly depend on popular concensus and painting!

It is the Salamanders.

There we go then so Part III shall be Raven Guard, Alpha Legion, Iron Warriors and Imperial Fists.

Thankfully, for me at least, Night Lords in a few months. Now where's my old mightnight blue paint.....

Looking at the pictures from the recent Games Days and Forge World events, where we've seen pictures of painted Iron Hands and Salamanders (but no Raven Guard), rumours that the Sallies would be in book 2 sound more than probable. We'd have two heretic Legions (NL and WB) and two loyal ones (IH and Sal), then the three missing Legions (IW, AL and RG) would complete the Istvaan 5 and Phall lineups (once you add the IF as the 4th Legion in the book) - and once again feature two renegade and two loyalist factions...

Here is my 2 pence, though this may change once i see how you execute your minis.

loyalist i would go with these!

and for your Traitors i would go with the legion that has a color scheme very close to this

Purple is a joy to paint and it just seems like it wants to blend nice.
