NEW Sisters Units *Speculation*

Hey folks.

So, looking at the currently rumoured 40k release dates, it would appear that Sisters of Battle will probably be out before 2015. I'm basing this off of the fact that they are unlikely to release Space Wolves, Grey Knights and Blood Angels within close proximity of one another. It wouldn't make good marketing sense and doesn't happen historically. For those who are unaware of the currently rumoured release schedule (including prior releases):

2012: Chaos Marines

2013: Dark Angels, Tau, Eldar, Chaos Daemons, Space Marines, Tyranids

2014: Guard, Orks

???: Space Wolves, Dark Eldar, Sisters, Blood Angels, Necrons, GKs.

Anyway, I think it is quite obviously that when they redo Sisters, there will be a lot of new units and new ideas. What would you like to see? You can be as inventive, crazy or 'out there' as you want. Your suggestion doesn't have to have any prior lore basis, either. If we take a look at Codex: GKs and Codex: Necrons we can see that they're prepared to re-invent the wheel if they have to, after all.

Here is my own wishlisting:

1) Celestians with Storm Shields and Power Weapons (or Storm Shields and Storm Bolters).

2) Give Celestine wings. It's such a common conversion - just ret con it for us already!

3) Access to longer ranged melta weapons. The Holy Trinity is a fine concept, but we need to see 36" Melta Cannons for it to be more viable. Besides that, lets have that S6 flamer as well whilst we're at it.

4) Frateris Militia - akin to Chaos Cultists, but braver. Frateris Cavalry, too.

5) A BS4 hellhound-like tank. A flyer too, obviously. Maybe something designed for crowd control in big cities.

6) Novitiate Choirs. A troops choice which generates faith and buffs other units. They would be made up of impetuous, rookie Sisters who are impetuous but untrained. They're be lightly armed and armoured, but provide some nice utility.

As someone who'd gladly play Sisters if GW would just give me a freakin' chance, I'll definitely second the bit about giving them a "proper" tank. And not just 'cause tanks are my thing, but because it'd add some more depth to the army. The nice thing is, GW doesn't even have to make a new one up. There's several existing designs that could be tweaked and would fit the Sisters quite well:

This could be iffy, but as I understand it the only thing "secret" about the Baal Predator is the engine, which makes it count as fast. All the weapons on it are weapons available to other forces of the Imperium besides the Blood Angels. Given their proclivity for using the Rhino chassis, I could see giving Sisters the Baal Predator at a reduced cost without Fast or Scouts. For more options, they could also thrown in the Infernus variant from FW, which sports an 18" range large blast meltagun.

The Hellhound/Devil Dog could also work, just with an increased points cost to account for BS4. This might not be as probable, though, since the Sisters seem to prefer Rhino variants.

Hiss. No wings on Celestine. She's a saint, not a mutant.

You shouldn't call Sanguinius a mutant, heretic. biggrin.png

But, in seriousness, I'd be alright with them being part of her relic armour. I completely get that this suggestion is a personal taste thing!

actually think its required to have a cigar hanging out of your mouth driving a Tauros but idk. The only thing i could possibly ask for would be a return to equipment that makes sence for the unit and comprable faith abilities. Some cheap faithful fodder would be nice to, with martyr-able ability for faith pts/rerolls

They share existing solely to hold the line and die horribly long enough for space marines to come in and save the day.

I want sisters driving tauros vehicles ever since I read Hammer and Anvil.

Hells yeah! Would help bulk out the fast attack slot nicely too :D

Would deffinetly like to see an extra troop choice and for sisters to come in squads of 5 as basic unit size.

The big E didn't engineer Sanguinius with wings, they were a mutation from when the Ruinous powers spirited him away to Baal through the warp.

I think I can safely predict some form of organic, sororita piloted, air support. I'll further claim it won't be an Avenger, but I will speculate of some form of 'flame-strike-missile'. Duel-build kit feels like a safe guess, fighter and ground attack builds.

My money's still on cyber-aquila knights.

You know, I don't think battle nuns of double headed eagles specifically violates any of my tenents above. The missile hardpoints may be a challenge, but nothing they can't overcome. :P

While I very much want to believe...I'm afraid your premise doesn't hold a lot of water.

I can definitely see them releasing BA and even GK in close proximity, especially if they are simply "extensions" off of the core SM codex, like what they're doing with the Eldar right now. It's too obvious a cash grab for GW to dismiss, I fear. sad.png

But...I hope you're right.

My idea is a large hover vehicle for crowd control. It would have Heavy Bolters all around with spotlights and vox units. It would be higher up on the base like a flyer but be immobile and heavily shielded. Deepstrike in, blast away in all directions at multiple units each turn and have Seraphim deploying from it. A Battle Sister at a pulpit preaching at the unworthy below.

Upgrades would be for anti-aircraft weapons or remove transport option to give anti-tank.

I'm for anything new that isn't stolen from Space Marines. So please no Scout Sisters or bikes or termie Sisters or whatever.

I would probably propose something like Mistress of Redemption (vet Mistress of Redemption) as a HQ choice, would do utility like sniffing out units with infiltration and heresy. Perhaps a customizable generic saint.

Light buggies armed with flamers doing drive-by attacks with very reckless Dominions driving them. Sort of like those mentioned above - we had a whole thread on /tg/ about them.

Some sort of Zealots/Fraretis Militia.

Plasma wielding Repentias.

I imagine the sisters flyer to look a lot like the DA flyer with the Aquila wings and a buttload of missiles on it. Can only hope it doesn't suck as much tongue.png

. . .

I take offence to that. . .

Even if it is sort-of true. . .

Heck just plasticizing the kit would remove some of the biggest complaint's I heard about it.

What's that?

Did I hear you say finecast there?

As for what I'd expect:

  • Probably a new heavy tank, possibly loaded with either bolters or flamers, with an option for a big melta main cannon.
  • Another tank dualkit for exorcist and an anti-air vehicle, a safe bet as far as I know.
  • Then a either a new unit, or an additional weapon option for retributor squads to have some form of anti-air capacity. On one hand it makes sense to get an infantry-based anti-air option, but on the other hand it'll be hard to add a new weapon to the arsenal that's bolt/flamer/melta-based for that purpose. Either way seems both likely and implausible... *sigh*
  • An alternate jump pack unit, probably geared more for close combat.
  • Maybe some sort of fast attack vehicle that isn't an immolator with overcharged engines stolen from the blood angels. Taurus maybe, although kinda unlikely given its a FW design. More likely at least than some form of land speeder variant.
  • An elite unit in either power armour or artificer armour geared for close combat.
  • A cheaper troop choise. Likely to be either acolytes who haven't taken their vows yet, or frateris militia. Not sure which one would be worse to get...
  • Also, big stompy robot because GW seems to be giving one to everyone and their grandmother.

I'd expect a newer, bigger penitent engine model. Probably a dual kit.

Heck just plasticizing the kit would remove some of the biggest complaint's I heard about it.

Unlike the current version, if you throw a plastic version against the wall, the wall wins.

Although its probably cheaper to fix the plastic than the wall.
