clanfield
sounds good matey I am always interested in other peoples ideas the odd game like that can be a great salve ,personally iv been playing for way too many years and I rather prefer defeats at least they teach us stuff if only when to duck :) I find a good epic game is rare these days but that is for another day Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278815-men-of-metal-steel-legion-and-mordian-iron-guard/page/2/#findComment-3442878 Share on other sites
Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
As the victim, all I can I tried to put up a fight. Sadly, it just wasnt in me. I hate to repeatedly blame the dice, bu they just werent with me. I was failing 3+ cover saves all during the "game" (anything that lasts 3 1/2 turns aint a game...trying to make uber feel bad), losing my momentum turn 1 didnt help either. the LR full of goodies is usually my momentum builder, but having that immobilized and losing a supporting GH filled Rhino was just BAD. my list: Wolf Lord, Rune Priest and 4 WG Termines in a LR Redeemer 10 GH in Rhino 10 GH in Rhino 10 GH in Rhino 10 GH in Rhino Vindicator Tank His list (from memory) Company Command Squad in Chimera Min Sized Platoon (Command+2 Squads in Chimeras) Min Sized Platoon (Command+2 Squads in Chimeras) Min Sized Platoon (Command+2 Squads in Chimeras) LR Demoshlisher LR Battle Tank Some FW flyer with punisher cannon Colossus Siege Gun Colossus Siege Gun Game was over fairly quickly. Despite Night Fight cover saves, had immbolized Redeemer and popped 1 Rhino turn 1. Colossus then smacking emergeing GH ppack, who fled off board. My turn came to quick moving, trying to hug cover and advnce towards sole objective. Return fire has Vindi tank shell scattering off Demolisher onto 2 Chimeras, breaking 1 turret, shaking another. Turn 2 had the loss of another 2 Rhinos to Demolisher, despite smoke and cover, and the squads being wiped out by combined Colossus and Flyer gun. My turn use remaing rhino to screen Vindi tank in attack on Demolisher tank, shell again scatters. Termies and Characters emerge to maske dash to objective, the Rhino that was supposed to screen them being dead, I had to trust in their armor and invul saves... Turn 3 had the Demolisher wiping out all the termies and wounding the Rune Priest and Lord, the Flyer taking out the Vindi on its side armor, and the Battle tank wiping the remaing Rhino out. My Wolf Lord fails a charge on the only enemy infantry unit on the table. Turn 4 had the Lord dying to waves of inneffective missle fire, only to lose his final wound to the punisher cannon on the Flyer. game ended as al I had was the immobilzed Redeemer tank left. Uber's list was pretty much the reason why I am afraid of Guard armies. Nothing crazy flashy like the Vets/Valk army of boring doom, but enough redundancy to make the infantry effective, if they ever leave their transports, and enough big guns to make sure they never have to leave their transports. Warhead01
The core of the list was the infantry squad mounted in Chimera they are armed with a grenade launcher and a missile launcher. That works out to a nice little 125 points. I first wanted 8 squads but min maxed my platoons . Not sure why either I could have settled for 2 platoons with 3 infantry squads each,I just like troops I guess. I goofed up during the game I see now though the 3 platoon leaders and transports with kit worked out to 315 points a little 105 points each I messed up because the "template for them was as follows. platoon leader with 2 grenade launchers ans 1 auttocannon. Based on my mordian set up. The error was in forgetting the auttocannons at home and forgetting they were even on the list. But oh well that would have just been salt in the wound. The company command had 1 Master of ordnance 2 snipers and should have been 2 grenade launchers. along with their transport. 1 vulture with twin Punisher cannon. should be 150 or 155. the snipers shot once the MoO called for fire 2 or 3 times. 1 Leman Russ Demolisher with 2 plasma cannons and 1 heavy flamer, 1 Leman Russ battle tank with 1 lascannon and 2 heavy bolters and lastly 2 colossus. WarriorFish
Sounds like it was a bit of bad luck too, but at 2000pts Guard start to get more powerful so I don't think his list was bad. The more points we get the more toys we can fit in and the more we can take advantage of cheaper units and how we work with the FOC. That said, the largest normal games I play are almost entirely 1500pts so I've not really tasted this wondrous land of of milk and honey :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278815-men-of-metal-steel-legion-and-mordian-iron-guard/page/2/#findComment-3442987 Share on other sites
Warhead01
I spent a few hours building my list. I was worried it was to light and that I would end up bringing a list that "every one uses" . I will only change a small bit of this list for next time, if I want to play full mech again. I do think a few more pieces of terrain would have been nice. I was only able to get a few pictures. My camera died. It was all in good fun, even though WLK may say otherwise. robertn1
well uberwolve that a list i would be proud of running, has everything that you need to bring hell to people. i dont really think it over the top crazy. just think that most people dont play against ap 3 ingore cover saves and small crazy blast. reguardless of that fact it has a lot of run to change up what your doing it you like to keep rewrite and play value over the next few months. Warhead01
I was told to use that list against you in our next game. If we get around to a 2000 point match. But It was the wrong army to play VS WLK. The object isn't just to drive for 2 hours to table an opponent in less time then it took me to get their. I was more or less worried I wouldn't have a strong enough list to make a good showing. which was why I did take that army. But The next time He and I need to actually play a game.Your armies and play style are a lot more aggressive, then the list I fought. Your armies destroy loads of vehicles or units from the first turn. You build armies of the extreme. And their is nothing wrong with that. This game is meant to be fun as well as challenging. I enjoy the epic struggle of little soldiers over fictional glory as much as the next war gamer and I can enjoy fighting your brutal lists and tough minded tactics. ( but you know all of this already) I guess mostly I wanted a fight. It's more fun when both sides get to role lots of dice, makes it more of a game. That said my next out of town list will be full of teeth. I will not have my men go over those hills unarmed! But more terrain, for sure. The colossus were a little too much. Honestly I am thinking earthshakers next time. Cheaper and more destructive. Or just use the two battle tanks and change out my aircraft. Warhead01
Planning a 3000 point army. for next weekend. Very excited. I have a few Ideas one would be as many men as I own. the other would be adding 1000 points to my mek list and clean it up a little. Or maybe an armoured regiment list. It would be closer to my last army list. I will post the doom I am building when I get it worked out. Warhead01
I have an idea. I don't think it's a new one. But if a character roles a 6 to hit they can chose who is hit. So would this still apply to, say a lord commissar firing a quad gun? I will be looking into this one for my game this weekend. still have to run the points. Just notices in IA12 under orders it mentions Siege regiments still using the orders from codex IG! Good find. We have decided to each take one Superheavy tank. I have a mane blade but I have to work on it still. I have thought about skipping out on the "Big tank". I don't mind my opponent using one. I don't think he has any air support. So it might be a fair trade off. What ever I decide I need to do it soon. The weekend will be here soon.. List to follow. WarriorFish
You reap what you sow Argun, I'll be watching your spelling from now on What's that old Terran saying? "If it moves, shoot it. Warhead01
My list may be extremely under.. In my defense I have had several head injuries over the years. So I have been known for my "Mathlexia" Which isn't me making an excuse so much as me trying to get it right. I think my last 2000 point army should have been over points. I have to check and recheck my points nearly as much as my spelling. The list I had worked out to less then 2000 points. More to follow. WarriorFish
That which does not kill you makes you stronger uber :D My body has taken a beating over the years but as long as you continue to forge ahead that's all that matters. Warhead01
I wish I did. After so many years having the same collection I really should. Honestly naming the offices is where I need to start however they mostly look the same.Well they used to I could manage to name 43 Junior offices now and the "cast of characters" that make up the commanders and commissars. I guess I never gave it too much thought before. I have a friend whe had an Iron Hands army as well as a large mek guard army. He had named every tank. I sat here trying to think of a name for the BaneBlade. I finaly came up with "Sir Henry's Honer" Just another bad joke. WarriorFish
I know what you mean, my tanks often get named before they're even done as a name just comes to me. Otherwise they must earn a name in battle - sometimes that takes a while. Special models such as commanders and the like get a name but the other squads have a "generic" naming system. For example a PCS might be called "Duty", with the other squads being named in sequence (so "Duty I", "Duty II" etc). Other names are "Valour", "Faith", "Honour" and "Resolve". I usually name them after what I'm hoping/expecting the squad to do :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278815-men-of-metal-steel-legion-and-mordian-iron-guard/page/2/#findComment-3470700 Share on other sites
Warhead01
Update to the "big game" The whole this didn't end up as planned. I ended up taking my Space wolves. My reasoning was less models. I further didn't use my " free BaneBlade". I cashed it in for 500 more points. Still fair..I think. Things got stranger for me. He says it was his first game of 6th. So I'm thinking what in the world! are we doing playing such a large game! What about oh I don't know..Learning how it works first?!! Nope. Learning is for fat people and hookers.. well something like that. My buddy is so full of excitement and enthusiasm just to play. So we did. I learned more about Close combat the wolves winning every assault to ..everything with chainswords... My friend had fairly bad dice. The GW battle boards seems to like my yellow chessex dice. at least thats how it feels. The wolves made an excellent showing and left a crippled defiler as his last model on the table at the end. we took light casualties. Karn, his warlord, was killed when his Storm Lord exploded and the template drifted on top of him. It was a heck of a game and cool to see just what my various units could dish out as well as take. It was strange to see his chaos marines flee and get trampled trying to escape close combat. My friend had a blast all the way through. His highlight was parking a rhino in front of my vindicator in turn 2 and create a small traffic jam. I was set to assault that rhino for 3 turns and forgot each turn.. He kept telling me how I could have brought more then 300 guardsmen.( I have to drive 2 hours for these "away games" My poor mini's!) I pointed out that we were playing on a 6' by 4'.. where would over 300 men stand. Also the guard might have been to aggressively shooty for his army. I will get the guard up their again but we will need to play a smaller game. WarriorFish
Sounds like you had a good time - what a way to get back into the game though! Warhead01
YA, lot of fun. I have learned a few things over the last few years. Once I sorta felt like I had lost my competitive nature. One of the big things is that it isn't Me vs You. It's these guys vs those guys. Once I stepped back things got a lot more fun for me. I used to play very hard to win and was disappointed when i didn't. But I really like a draw. I love a good fight. As far as dice goes. well Some times they like me some times they don't. My Orkz only role the red GW dice. Which is crazy cause you never know which ones are good or bad. Savage red dice. Could you imagine your first game facing 3500 points of Guard! That might have been a bad first game. WarriorFish
I think people seem to get lost in the supposed "fluff vs comp" scale. Probably the internet's fault (as it only likes extremes) but the truth is that almost every player is really a mix of the two. You can play for fun and still play to win, to do otherwise is rude to your opponent. I'll be scheming to win as best I can, so you should be doing the same so we can have a proper go of it! What was it someone said once; the goal is to win, the point is to have fun! Warhead01
I will be back to painting these soldiers of Iron and Steel very soon I am taking a bit off to clean shop. I have an unorganized mess and it is effecting my small mind. Some new Strange and wonderful updated in the coming weeks. I am still bent, Hellishly so, on guard but a small return to the Pack has me excited about a few wolve mini's and a future repaint. But I am going to give up a good progress report and a list of to do's when I get back to it. Warhead01
Short progress report. I built 2 long fangs with plasma cannons and am looking for bits for 1 wolf guard terminator, still need the torso parts. That was all done before today. Today! I got some blue coats er..Mordians Started! every heavy weapons team and a small pile of soldiers too! Not a bad bit of work. Not a single figure is done but now it feels like I am getting some where. On top of that I traded away one of my LRBT for another one still in the box.. will the madness ever stop! I drafted in 6 more sentinels as well. nothing picture worthy yet.
