Warhead01
Small update. All the Heavy weapons teams have blue jackets as first platoon. And some extras. I will be painting more jackets over the weekend. I might even get my Medusa's cleaned and assembled. I am looking forward to using them. I have a Friend talking about a Forge World order soon I am planning to throw in for some bombs and an IA book. I have been giving thought to the DKoK assault list. That is to say I think it would be cool to give it a try for a few games. I got an old demolisher tank back armed with 2 plasma cannons and a heavy bolter. I plan to switch the turret for a Vanquisher cannon. The part of the army I am least happy with right now would be the commands and platoon commands. I will have to find some suitable mini's down the road. Still have not found the last Space wolf terminator Torso bitz. But I have found some small shields which I think will become decorations for transports. At some point down the road. WarriorFish
If I ever get round to writing more background for my armies I'm going to make a reference to a Forge World called "Uber". It will be attacked by some foul xenos and the loyal servants of the Imperium will rush to it's defence... only to find the Forge World produces so much that it crushed the invaders without breaking a step  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278815-men-of-metal-steel-legion-and-mordian-iron-guard/page/3/#findComment-3477223 Share on other sites
Warhead01
I am about to start the Officer Quest. I need Officers that actually look like they are in the right uniform! I have about 16 more mini's to base and bring up to speed. no including officers that I might do some converting to. weapons and stuff like that. But I think I need to keep looking for the proper leadership. That one Mordian Officer.. very 2ED. From back when you only needed one. Had a look at the GW site today as well and the Mordian mortars are gone again. either they take them down when they are out or some other reason. who knows. Ebay hasn't been very helpful so far maybe in a month their will be more Mordian mini's around their. I did see a small "army" nicley painted but not what I was after, though the command squad was praetorian. the banner man was very well thought out as well. I have painted jackets and pants not on everyone except that last 16 I mentioned above. Now I m working on flesh tones. I have a few pictures but will get more at the end of the weekend. I have been grumping about not having a painted army, all the way painted. But I may have it all done by the time the codex is out at this rate. well, more or less done. all the hard stuff. Any way. Heres a look at. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0dy2MuAMzgw/Ukb2nuQzyUI/AAAAAAAABo8/8HZ1GBUaZuE/s320/226_1625.JPGhttp://3.bp.blogspot.com/-m7nQCcn1arw/Ukb2lTuGBfI/AAAAAAAABoo/TOip9NVpS_o/s320/226_1624.JPG http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oG3cfftEdTQ/Ukb2lMKypeI/AAAAAAAABok/UR3xDT2tDWY/s320/226_1623.JPGhttp://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mFAdSpsPLig/Ukb2lW-4KII/AAAAAAAABos/U1DWOE9lRZI/s320/226_1622.JPG Bad lighting. Warhead01
Yet another small update. Two or three afternoons of hitting it hard gets us.. This. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-T6OI8tYSTWE/UkiIcTlXmwI/AAAAAAAABpc/piAB9HhUVZ0/s320/226_1630.JPG As you can see... well if you could you would see all the faces painted ! So my "basic Guardsmen" now looks like this. This second one is fun too. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ff2bjOEW7ms/UkiIbLYuUHI/AAAAAAAABpQ/0o-Mh1hO41A/s320/226_1632.JPG http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BtWdgVaFnrU/UkiIhxYekkI/AAAAAAAABps/sgY4AgCM9Og/s320/226_1636.JPG One more fun picture. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2u35652p-0k/UkiIi6_XXSI/AAAAAAAABp0/DSbkZBBiyKw/s320/226_1633.JPG I know it only 3 colors right now. but that was a lot of work! Also it's best for me to just get the hard stuff out of the way. Next I will be cleaning up where I had over brush from the flesh color and starting the trim in red and working on the weapons. Thanks for looking. WarriorFish
Another legion of models takes form! Great work as always uber, they'll soon be brightening up the table as the Emperor intended :) Bonus points for the B&C mug too. I have a small collection of special mugs (no B&C one, yet) but they sit collecting dust on my shelf because I'm terrified of breaking them  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278815-men-of-metal-steel-legion-and-mordian-iron-guard/page/3/#findComment-3479858 Share on other sites

Warhead01
Has anyone used TechPriests and thralls with heavy weapons? any good? I was thinking they might be a cool way to add more fire power to the Mordians. WarriorFish
Guard are not short of big guns, a Techpriest should have technical servitors to help him keep the tanks ticking over in battle :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278815-men-of-metal-steel-legion-and-mordian-iron-guard/page/3/#findComment-3482865 Share on other sites
Warhead01
I have never seen anyone use a TechPriest. I own one that came with my Steel Legion. (Not a special priest or anything I got my army second hand in ... like 04. from a friend. ) Heres the background. A conversation, the topic came up, How do you make your army Yours? Specifically a Guard Army. My Friend was telling us how Guard is a point and click army. I think he may have had some bad experiences, or just read stuff on the internet. ( I'm thinking BoLS leaf blower tournament list here.) So I asked him how he would do it. seems fair to ask him. He is the one who was who brought it up. He says , he misses Ratlings and Ogryn in games. He doesn't see them any more. I have both of these unite. But I have not used them in years or at all in the case of the Ogryn. I have never used a TechPriest. All of this got me thinking. I am planning to add Ratlings, once they are painted, I think they could fit in very well with my Mordian Foot. Ogryn I am still worried about. They seem to squishy but I won't know for sure till I give them a chance, But they cost a lot of points! So many points! The TechPriest and Thralls. I was thinking of adding them to my gunline. with an ADL I think they might act as security for my artillery and command. one more layer of shooty death star? I still have to work up the points and see where they fit in. It will fit int the over all theme once I get the extra artillery crews put together. I have these Iron Brotherhood miniatures from Macro arts Studio. Any who.. Another Guard update over the weekend. WarriorFish
That's one of those lame accusations that gets thrown around far too often to justify losing or to cry about how your tactical genius was undermined by a "cheap" or "easy" army and I'll have none of it. Armies may have problems in certain units being priced "wrong" making them more or less appealing to use and some units have real life issues such as Ogryns being so damn expensive or Rough Riders being ancient models etc, so sometimes units fall by the wayside and that's more GW's fault than anyone else's. If he wants to see certain units in an army he doesn't collect then I suggest he starts collecting it first. Warhead01
You do have a fair point their. With regards to the odd ball units. I am looking for ways to use the ones I have. If it works out I will give my friend a painful taste of what he was asking for. I am trying to avoid building a knock off Alpha strike list. Not that I don't have almost everything I need to do that... Right now 2 small squads of rattlings would be very easy and cheep to field I will put some work into them. I discovered 2 plasma cannons today and will be looking for candidates to become thralls for my techpriest. In the end I want 2 with heavy bolters as well. I don't have the Medusa cannons built yet but I will be ready to build them when I get the time. Warhead01
Pardon me while I have a Strange interlude... What is power gaming? What makes it suddenly worse then WAAC? I recall being a power gamer. years ago. And in our circle that simply meant build a winning list that is , the strongest list you could build. We used to have Rules lawyers. Those I had though were what grew into WAAC players. But it seems Power gamers and Rules Lawyers had evil little children which were now called WAAC players... Which again makes me ask why is it back in fashion to say power gamers are "bad" ? I have read articles hate'n on power gamers over this last month. I think what has happened is some young gamer met some older gamer got beat badly and accused the older of WAAC, to which they corrected the younger.. The Younger then when onto the interwebbs and blogged it as a new "buzz word". But I could be wrong. I keep seeing the 3 hell drakes connected to this the "power gamer". And I am hurt! What about me! I don't want to play chaos to keep my T-Shirt! How sad for them. power gamers indeed... we now return to our normal? transmissions. WarriorFish
Nobody can decide what means what any more... sounds like a confusion over terms maybe. A power gamer might not be much fun to play against but he's not doing anything against the rules. Next time make sure you're both on the same page when you're getting a game so your fluff bunny list doesn't bang heads against his tourney winner army WAAC has is all in the name - "at any cost". So he's sort of a power gamer who went over to the dark side and will cheat and use underhanded tactics. Not a nice person and as such not a nice accusation to throw at someone. That's what I think anyway, but it mostly comes down to different labels for either bad opponents or sour grapes from the loser. This is the Internet though, where everyone who beats you is cheating and anyone you defeat is a n00b... Warhead01
Nearly done with the Medusa cannons! Now were getting some where! Built and primed! Some small work to do and then paint! Have a look! http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-D3LY-jrgDhE/UlHdN5nrflI/AAAAAAAABt0/yYqALvwEXfc/s320/227_0011.JPG http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cu_gtIsqPI8/UlHdMSdTGuI/AAAAAAAABts/aj7aFFkpYeY/s320/227_0010.JPG The will get some paint in the near future. Commission wave 1 is done and wave 2 arrives this week I told my client i was stopping work in November to start my Holidays. So I need to get some work put in. But this still gives me some time for my self. So I hope to get these cannons painted as well as some more work on the Mordians. I really like the Mordians. I might sell my DKoK to buy more. But thats a thought for latter. I will also be making some new jungle terrain to add to my collection very soon. cypherthefallenangel
The difference I see between a power gamer and a WAAC player is.. A power gamer is one of those people that maximize every point in their list. They generally make tough all comers lists but won't go full cheese. They prefer to win but fun is still important. A WAAC player only cares about winning. They will find and exploit any loop-holes or broken aspects of the game. They will lie about rules, sneak in extra points, move a little to far, etc. no cheese is off limits. The cheesier the better. The guy at the LGS that no one wants to play. Warhead01
Thanks for letting me rant guys. Today I started the red trim on the Mordians but it is slow going and I am not in a rush. I am waiting for commission load number two to arrive. and another payment. I have started to build a small list of extra units and equipment I want to add to the Mordian Foot. I am very tempted to play the assault regiment. very! I know the though is that cherry picking FW units can be over powered. I can agree to that. But so far we have 3 thud guns 3 heavy mortars and 2 medusa cannons. and 6 cyclops. I would like to add 2 or 3 lasser destroyers to that short list. The hard part is getting the crew for all of these. I am nearly their for the thud guns and heavy mortars. 2 per gun so far still need some more bodies. And only have 1 crew per Medusa so far. Still working on it. The mordian lasscannon crews are providing the cyclops controllers. If I can get 3 more mortar loaders then the heavy mortars will be crewed up. I am thinking of using those loaders for the Medusas as well. though the shell is a bit smaller. I was thinking ofalliing either way with either standard IG one or the other will be the majority. the reasons are two fold one is death riders the other is the MOO. the assault list has a veneration on call for fire. I think it's heavy mortar fire. Warhead01
I just got my Vengeance weapons battery assembled! Both have battle cannons. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JFYr-bIz4NQ/UlSw6GJ3kHI/AAAAAAAABuE/QlTFtKA1Dek/s320/227_0014.JPG I have to read up on them. But I will take deviating Battle cannon rounds over lots of missed shots all day! If you are wondering the kit came with both battle cannons and punisher cannons as well 2 of each. As I have mentioned I have started the red trim on the Mordians. I keep finding mini's that missed a step some where. So just a little more work for some of them but I do feel like I am making some progress. Kierdale
I saw someone mount one of those battle cannon turrets on a razorback hull and it looked great. Warhead01
Firstly Let me say I am sorry for not having gotten you those pictures yet Kierdale. I will try to remember this week. I am shifting gears right now. I will be finding more of my own hobby time again after 15 Nov. I am finding myself in a strange place again. I love the Guard. But I feel the call of the savage again. And it wont stop. So I will be trying to green Skin in some small projects as well as find some time to push the guard along. Don't worry Their will be painting and proof of life. But I find I do the most when I am feeling it. At this point for as little as I game having 2 battalions doesn't make a lot of sense. I am working out a way to down size and still be happy. At any rate their will be more from me just not all at once. Warhead01
Hello again. I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas. I had a very good one. No new "loot" or anything like that, Just a really good day. My holidays are about over and it will be back to the commission work and I am only now picking up the Mordians to paint a few. I have been painting a pile of orks that I got and never finished, their no done now but they do look a lot better, for orks. But today I am painting the red trim on blue Jackets. and it's moving along. I have decided to part with a lot of my IG next year. I don't get to play enough to keep as much as I have But the Mordians are staying. I like them. I passed on the opportunity to pick up a huge amount of tallarns and more vehicles. The only reason to have gotten them would have been the transports, 9 Chimeras. Nothing else I wanted. Maybe that was a mistake. Oh well. I have been thinking a lot about my aircraft and all these new expansions. But I am excited that I can now use my Marauder Destroyer and as a LoW at that. No plans for the IG to see the field any time soon but I do still have big plans for them I found this picture a little while ago. It's a look I might try in a few weeks. At the very least I will do some test models and get some pictures. Thanks for reading.
