Men of Metal . Steel Legion and Mordian Iron Guard

I wish Christmas wasn't so busy, I've not had time to do anything yet and probably won't until after New Year's!

Sad to hear of the fate for your Guard but at least you're keeping the Mordians. Just wait until the new codex, you'll be back in your flak jacket in no time! :D

It's not a direct loss of interest in the Guard! No sir!

I think it's more or less that in 6 years I will have been collecting and playing Orks of...20 years..

At some point they will all be painted.. I just hope to get them done sooner then later..

But IG is why I am here and I have been painting away at the Mordians and still plan to for a few more weeks.

I keep thinking about the Heavy mortars and Thud Guns. I have been giving thought to how to collect the remaining artillery crews and Keep looking at the mortars I already have. For 60 points we get 3 mortar blasts but for 50 points, Just one thug Gun we get 4 blasts. as clear savings. But which brings more hurt? I guess it will be back to ebay with a shopping list next year. I am also really thinking I may have made a mistake not taking my friends IG army I would have loved to have had 9 more transports. regardless.

On the painting table I am still painting red trim and piping. I find I get a red all over the place so their is a lot of clean up.

I am really excited about the possibility of more artillery in the new codex.

Still plugging away at the blue coats. fighting the urge to change coat color now...lol All these threads about Super Heavies might get me ready to repaint one of mine.

I am setting up some structure for some games of second edition and I am getting fairly excited about the idea of not needing as many Guardsmen for that as well as my Earthshaker getting 2 shots a turn...Humm. Time will tell. I may have 3 players interested.

If it works out then I will launch the madness with a Campaign for the start. Every game counts even the first few where we work out how to play.. Yep Madness! But as long as it's fun.

Maybe you shouldn't repaint your SHs, you've plenty enough to be doing and just imagine the look on someone's face when they've proudly completed their Baneblade only to find that in the same time Forge World uber has produced three...

whistling.gif well I was only thinking i'd work on one of them lol. I can't decide and I am not about to rush into it.

I had thoughts of a hellhammer. But can't the cannons be swapped... I might have to look into that. it would make things a little easier.

I'm sure I'm neck deep in uniforms to paint right now. Maybe later this month i will give the SH's a serious looking over.

Again it's going right back to the had them for a few years and never got them done.

Just a few progress pictures. Pants and Coats. Still have to paint the boots and I will be of course work on the skin still. Have to clean up around the necks and all that. Oh, hats too.

It occurred to me that if I was going to paint the coats another color I might have used battlefield green. Just a messy war color.

Thanks guys!

Very good stuff! Give us some close-ups!

Now I knew this was going to happen. Blogger and B&C don't seem to work together too well.

So pictures this weekend. But they aren't really close up worthy so only one or two pictures.

Progress is slow and not one of them is finished yet.

Sorry for not having much in the way of updates. I am still Knee deep in a commission job and my orks are getting my free time.

Mostly because I am really having fun painting them. But my plan is that soon I will sit down and paint the rest of my Chimeras. likely a weekend where I can paint about 13 of them with out having to stop. and I will be looking for a day or two to fix up my LRBT's and another few to paint them.

I am looking at a drastic down size this year. the Steel Legion will have to go. But I will be keeping the Mordians. They are dear to me.

More when ever I get to it.

Thanks for looking.

Small update.

So my commission work is running its course and moving along fairly well! I am expecting to be done with a big chunk of it in April.

My client wants to send more mini's and is planning a Forge World order as well. So despite getting tired of painting"This guys stuff" things are going well!

The tides are bringing in all sorts of opportunities.

In the back of my mind the Mordians are very nearly ready to hold a formation, accountability is key.  After this long off front line rotation I am sure some of them have gone native.

Were holding our breath now with the few rumors coming our way. I have no plans to decommission the regiment.

In fact I am looking for funds from the Mutitorum to draft in more needed bodies.

My friend wants to horse trade an army to me. I am not sure what I would do with a collection of sisters that are in, at the present, questionable condition.  But I can't really loose too much on this deal. I am sure they will sell once striped of paint. Sisters is likely the most expensive army to buy right now.

And then their were the Green Skins. I will say I have enjoyed painting them and am nearly caught up and am on track to have them done by the time their new codex is available!

I would like to start gathering my vow for ETLIII together just before the launch of the event. I have a bit to finish and I hope that what I bring to the table will be excepted, even if i have to work out a deal of some kind.

At any rate a lot of my plans are dependent on the new IG codex.

Thanks for looking.

  • 2 weeks later...

I started to do some book keeping today.  I counted my Steel Legion. It's a legion.

 well not really.

I am doing this to prepare myself for the new codex. If it does badly then My troops will be ready to be sent off to new commanders. If things work out well then I will have good footing for more war efforts.

I knew I had a lot. But that didn't really tell me anything (Notice how I draw it all out, building the suspense...lol)

I have enough men, sgt's, special weapons and heavy weapons to field 4 platoons of 55, 6 heavy weapons squads and a bloc of 50 conscripts and at least one company command,

That comes out to 311 men at 2230 point all on foot.

I have left over soldiers and could most likely add 2 vet squads and another company command.

My back is screaming at me just thinking about how long that game would take!

play it as a DKoK assault brigade so, destroyed platoons return into play!

Arggg!    Thats even more work! Now my platoons are at least a squad short each!

And after posting the above..I went looking for some where to get bayonets for my men. I don't have that many around..

It's really becoming a love hate thing with the Legion.

Are you trying to say you've enough models for your Guard army? Such a thing has never happened before, I don't think my Primer covers this.

For some really meaty bayonets use Space Marines knives. Though you have to be careful with them, I knocked a model and the bayonet vanished into thin air. I should probably look for nearby xenos as it's likely buried in one :P

Well. I never said they would be very good. lol

I was thinking about if I keep them what else could I do to them, to keep my interest as well as change the over all feel.

Don't want to rush into it when I am ready to look at them more in depth I will.

I am close to done with the Tin ead' commission work. I have a small Fish head job after that and then it's back to doing stuff for me!

I have been thinking about trying to build a very nasty IG list. I have seen a few Battle reports on like where TAU seem way too harsh and keep wanting to build a list to bring them to heel. And make them cry.....

But it silly to bother with that, New book and all that change we will go through.

I've a few small projects I'd like to do with my collected Jungle fighter bitz. Maybe a lost unit turned cannibal. something messy and disturbing.

I'm feeling more and more optimistic about the upcoming codex. So far I can see my money going away quickly if I'm not careful.

The plan so far is for several Hydra, Wyvern and Toraux.

I have 15 chimera currently and have thought about adding the Taurox for the squads that don't have transports.

But the less I spend the better. these additions are more or less a long term plan. I know I have been guilty of bringing in more mini's then I can build and paint and with that in mind I will be slowing down to one or two kits at a time. Ever month or every other month, more likely.

However, as excited as I am about more Guard this year belongs to the Green Skins. The reason for that is they are the closest to being done! And my army of choice for my less competitive friends.

Selling one of my armies my be my means of funding both of these mighty projects.

The difference between the Wyvern and Hydra looks to be little more than plugging the long autocannon barrels in, so that's great. Even if it's not that easy out of the box I'm sure it won't require much work :)

With 15 Chimera I don't think you need any Taurox and their rules/cost isn't fantastic so I think you can stick to the trusty Chimera to cart your troops around. There's not too much of the new stuff I'm keen to get that can't wait, so I think that this will be the codex that really lets me catch up on my Guard backlog. If such a think is possible :P

Forge World uber will lead the charge into Imperial Guard 6th edition! :D

Story time with the Uberwolve...

Ya,So.. Their I was. filling my basket with the AM codex and a White Dwarf weekly. Sure sounds good right. Except!

Free shipping for orders of USD $65.00. and my cart said $62.50...

So I go looking for that new Commisar! But their was none to be had!

So I might not preorder after all.
