Warhead01
Where to begin. Like everyone else I am still digesting this new codex. All I really know is I don't like this digital book stuff. way too hard to use. I'm sure will try to get the hard copy as soon as I can. Changes to the Regiment. Dropping vendettas. Thankfully I only had 3. Very interested in the Scion platoon. Thankful I have ogryn already Not too excited about the new kit, Although Nork looks fairly boss. I don't want to get too far ahead of myself the less I spend the better. cypherthefallenangel
Don't give up on the vendettas just yet. They re still good in the IA books. :) at least for now. librisrouge
Looking at the Hydra, which got worse, I almost wonder if the Vendetta is still an almost essential part of the IG force. Nothing else knocks flyers out of the sky as easily for points, while surviving. Hydras just keep letting me down as it is (before the nerf.) Warhead01
Don't give up on the vendettas just yet. They re still good in the IA books. at least for now. The vendetta won't fill the roll I need from it. 3 valks will allow for a transported platoon to arrive in one go. As the vendetta can't be part of that squadron , it won't be missed. For AA I have fortifications. I haven't used anything larger then the Quad gun so far, my regular opponent doesn't use flyers, so their wasn't any need to bother with AA. And he would simply snap fire my aircraft to the ground. I can still add a few flak missiles to my list as well. I can agree that the Hydra is lacking. the lack of interceptor hurts it more then being open topped. Over all it doesn't bother me very much. enemy flyer arrives, shoots and is then killed. So they get to roll some dice. The Storm raven being able to shoot at more then one target is really the aircraft I worry about. ( In fact any aircraft that can shoot more then one target is a frightening thought) Still early days though, Lots to read and review. I'm still not sure if I like the Wyvern over my thud guns. that's the big one right now. Warhead01
I am giving Ratiligs some thought. For the most part the Elites section looks just like it did in the last codex. Ratlins look fairly straight forward. hendrik
ratlings are a nice nice unit to fill in points. their added new rule also is quite nice since it means they can occasionally redeploy after firing. however they are still far from an auto include Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278815-men-of-metal-steel-legion-and-mordian-iron-guard/page/5/#findComment-3657762 Share on other sites
Warhead01
Quote ratlings are a nice nice unit to fill in points. their added new rule also is quite nice since it means they can occasionally redeploy after firing. however they are still far from an auto include Challenge accepted. But seriously folks... Ya, Hendrik, I know. I have 10 half way painted and I'm starting to think I should get at least 5 more. (I was surprised when I looked today that they are still Metal mini's !! I think the price is right too. ) Today I read that my friend WLK is looking for more wolf guard TDA. I have a bag..that could be a nice little trade their. So, if I am lucky I might get a few new mini's for the regiment. I'll shoot him an offer and see what he thinks. I don't want to ask for too much. Anything new will help me out next month! Sadly their is so little new that my army needs. It's a good and bad thing really. I wish it were easier to find Mordians. I need one more Mortar team. and after that I just need mortar and missile loaders and SGT's. Maybe about 30 mini's in all. I can't remember. Warhead01
I've had so many Astra Militarum thoughts over the last few days. It's been hard not too! Yesterday My friend calls and says he's read some article declaring 40K to be too lethal, followed by some other bit about 150 shots with reroll to hit, wound and precision shot or some thing like that. Just today I reed Naftka "crying" about his tank commander orders" not being very good". What Madness it this! I just can'd believe it. But the wheels are turning and I'm thinking of a new and better way to field my Legionaries. This codex is amazing! Bearing in mind that I just don't care about points, I am thinking, how can I turn the Legion into an armoured regiment? I have basically everything to do it. Exciting times indeed! Despite my....unwillingness to continue buying Battle Tanks I see at least 2 or 3 in the future. Less if I still have one in the box...?maybe?... I am excited. But then, I've said that. The formation should look like this. CCT 3 tanks. Engineseers maybe 3, have to keep those tanks up. Paykers (Heck why not ). 1 platoon in chimeras. 35 men and equipment. Conscripts!1 vet squad, (only to save points that the CCT squadron is eating) artillery! Devil dogs. Yes, devil dogs. Melta! Ratlings, ratlings, Once I have a few points added up I will work out he why's and what for's.. WarriorFish
The TC orders are a little situational, but the ability to split fire more than compensates for this as that's what you'd be doing most of the time anyway. They're good - not great - but that's fine. He's mostly useful for getting BS4 on a tank and sneaking in some armour outside the Heavy Support slot :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278815-men-of-metal-steel-legion-and-mordian-iron-guard/page/5/#findComment-3660264 Share on other sites
Warhead01
Sure, and I am fine with that. Like I have said before, I will be lucky to remember that they have orders. I would of course like to add a CCS but I am trying to imagine a balanced list for around 1500 points. In larger games i wouldn't bother with a vet squad. I might have to really look them over but I don't want to field them in the "usual" way. I'm interested as well to see if I can finally fit my thunderbolts into a list with this type of build in lower points. ( in one set of rules they are a heavy choice so moving the tanks to HQ should work out well.) It would be even more fun to finally get to use my Marauder destroyer as a lord of war...Humm... Warhead01
Last night I had a dream that I was looking through old mini's for sale in a shop. I found some old imperial psykers. When the case was opened I couldn't find the one I had just seen! I was looking and it was really frustrating. I think I want to add more psykers to my army. I have a very old one from way back when, I think I will try to get the one from 2nd and the new one. Warhead01
I found one the the Psykers yesterday for around $20.00 (USD) just going to think about that for a while. But not too long. I am very interested in a Storm Trooper platoon. It kills me that we didn't get a Rough Rider platoon. But I can think of a way around that " discrepancy". Picking up a part of my ETL III contributions today. Very excited. WarriorFish
I'm still clinging to the hope that GW will release new plastics as part of an additional wave later, a bit like with the Chaos models... Warhead01
I have my doubt about GW they are on a very cautious path right now. Which isn't surprising with everything that has been going on over the last few years. They have to be more careful with what they create and how fast they do it. I am glad that they have decided to keep older regiments around, although it I do wish that more of those older miniature ranges had all their options available. I don't think we will see a new regiment for another 20 years. Unless it becomes easy and profitable for them. And as much as I wanted and tried to will the universe into giving me/us a rough rider platoon...well I guess I am just not qualified to make secret pacts with dark powers. Oh well, one can only try. ETL III I did get a part of my planned vow collected yesterday! 10 ratlings, 5 scyons and 2 commissars! A very good start! WarriorFish
That's one of the reasons why my hopes for new RRs is low, as GW didn't improve their rules (which are admittedly not great) which is always a good way to make sure something sells :( I have some of the old Ratlings around somewhere. No idea where. Maybe they can be added to my vows if I can find them? :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278815-men-of-metal-steel-legion-and-mordian-iron-guard/page/5/#findComment-3665722 Share on other sites
Warhead01
And now, as our saga continues... We know how it is. And honestly maybe GW spent time and energy and really looked at rough riders and decided that they wanted to keep them, a reward to the collector, but didn't feel that they could sell them to a younger gamer... Maybe. But no matter. Good news bad news time. I got in my first game for 2014 yesterday! And lost. But the Raven Guard won! and the Orks lost! But it was such a good and fun game starting my "narrative" campaign and WLK played a good game and defended the honer of the Raven Guard and the Imperium! It was everything I love about 40K. So much fun and he nearly lost! I don't get out to the shops much and did pick up a few White Dwarf weekly's and a new Commissar! All the new AM stuff was sold out! I am so glad I made the trip up north. I will post the battle report in the morning. I spent all day editing it. But Glory to the Raven Guard! ( no reason to be a sour looser, I got really close!) I have a nice pile of mini's ready for ETL III ! I challenge every member of the regiment to complete their vows! Even if all they can be sure of is a single vow! Get in line soldiers! and get ready for the march! It's a long way to the top and quitters will be shot on the spot! Forward! March! That objective isn't going to take it self! Warhead01
With the ETL III starting and having glanced over the rules I am starting to put my plan together. Things of note to me. Fortifications coming from Strong hold assault are in as are supper heavies from Apocalypse and Imperial Knights as well! I think this just kicked the doors wide open. Last year I didn't have a plan. This time around I am going to think it through a little more. List of models that are new and unpainted. 1 Scions box. 2 blisters of ratlings 2 commissars - the new one! 1 Firestorm Redoubt 6 sentinels with lascannons I got most of the above just for the ETL season. Now the hard part. rereading the rules so I know what else I can add to the heap! Lastly I plan to launch a wip thread for this event. which will be forth coming. Warhead01
My excitement is much less now then in my last few posts. But I will complete a vow this year. (I wasn't sure if I would participate this year) One Commissar Lord with Krak grenades, a plasma pistol and the blade of conquest. I have the commissar on the frame next to me and will have it assembled this evening. Pictures to follow. WarriorFish
You should have an image editing program stock with your OS that can handle scaling images down, I usually go down to 20% but it depends how good your camera is and how much detail you want to show. Warhead01
So I just started painting and then this happened. er... I mean this.. I have resized these pictures several times.. The B&C didn't use to show my pictures this large.. Oh well, I am sure everything is under control.. More to do on this one. I am feeling a little rusty but I'm sure it will turn out just fine.
