CC Allies for Ultramarines

Have you thought about just taking Ultramarine Assault Centurions?  Possibly in either a Land Raider or a Storm Raven for rapid delivery, or a Drop Pod if either of those options is too pricy for your list.  I think that you will find that adding a unit of Assault Centurions plus a LR or SR will run you about as many points as whatever you would end up taking in an allied detachment.  (Also:  If you take a Storm Raven, you can transport an Ironclad Dreadnought to back up your Assault Centurions).

For that matter, Assault Terminators + Storm Raven + Ironclad Dreadnought would also be a solid choice, especially if you throw in a Chaplain or Librarian in TDA to buff the Assault Terminators.

Quick point breakdown for you:  4 Assault Centurions (maximum size that can fit in a Storm Raven) = 250 points, + 200ish for the SR (depending on upgrades), +135ish for Ironclad Dreadnought = 585 points or thereabouts (again, depending on possible upgrades).

For Assault Terminators, 5 Assault Terminators = 200ish points (depends how many are armed with TH/SSs vs. LCs), so without adding any special/independent characters (Librarian or Chaplain) you'd be at about 535 with Ironclad Dreadnought and Storm Raven.  If you're not going to add an Independent Character, then you might as well add a 6th Assault Terminator.

Anyway, food for thought, I hope.

How about Black Templar- Crusader Squad with Neophytes will add a lot of 3+/4+ armor saves to your army. Place them in a Land Raider Crusader and  you have a solid unit that won't be that easy to get rid of.

LR Crusader w/ melta  260 points

Crusader squad w 10 Initiates and 6 Neophytes is 200 points plus any extras to add on.

Emperors Chamption is 140 points.

Sure, its 600 points but with your UM shooting that should give you a beefy CC element.

The great part of this new codex is, as many pointed out, that we now have a variety of assault oriented units that are now viable.

However, if you still want to ally another codex, i'd suggest BA death company with a divination librarian.

SPACE SHARKS!

Not even their allies are happy fighting along side them. Still Tyberos, Tacsquad armed for CC, storm raven. Hit hard, shred anything outside of 2+ armor. After the first enemy slain they just get better. I did Tyberos with Honorguard the other day, but that is a little expensive to be running for allies.

Grey Knight Deathcult Assassins.

One of the best CC units in the game.

Just to push this idea a bit more: Coteaz can make them Troops, hands out Hammerhand, and helps get 1st turn.

Just make sure he doesn't end up face to face with a thunder hammer, power fist, or any other instant death armor ignoring weapon. He doesn't usually survive such encounters.

True enough, that man just does not like the 'Average' commander weapon options for marines, or most Tau shooting.
